- MiniDisaster, on 11/15/2009, -2/+43I'm a first-generation, born in China but raised in the US girl, and I have to say, the stuff in that article is pretty consistent with what I've seen with my parents and grandparents.
They don't mention it right off of the bat unless there's something mentioned about blacks on television, but it's usually a statement like "Oh, those blacks (or Mexican, cause all Hispanic people just get lobbed into one group) are committing crimes again" and when I protest, they respond with "Well, what? They do commit a far higher percentage of the crimes" as if somehow that was justification for their racist statement. They also like to assert Asian intellectual ability as superior to all other races.
They don't really talk about it much anymore now that they know that I will call them out, but I can definitely tell sometimes that they're thinking about it. - inactive, on 11/15/2009, -3/+44Ironic considering India is next door.

I'm a "mestizo" from Mexico and the people there are just as racist, if not more, as the best of them. The white mexicans are racists towards the amerindians, mestizos, and blacks. The amerindians and mestizos are racists towards the blacks. In some very rare instances towards the whites because for some self-hating reason they aspire to be white, for verification of this just check out mexican media.
Funny thing though. If you've ever stumbled into a white supremacy site like StormFront you'll find mexican white supremacists bitching about how the european ones don't consider them white enough and lump them in with (gasp) black people.
Here in the US pretty much any (latino/hispanic/spanish-speaker/or whatever ***** we're calling ourselves) I've met is racist towards pretty much everybody. I've heard some of the most vile and ignorant ***** even from the most mild-mannered one of us. Heck my grandma hates black and indian people even though she's never sat down talked to one.
I don't know if it just due to fear and ignorance that these attitudes arise but I've experienced them from pretty much everyone. - Jrr6415sun, on 11/15/2009, -0/+37chinese and lots of other asian countries use whitening products because the whiter you are the higher class you are. The lower class works out in the sun all day so they are much darker.

When I lived in Guyana and saw a white person, I was like, look, it's one of those white person. Didn't think bad or good, just weird to see one in the wild. Still bad that people still think like this. People and try not to judge until I they get to know each other.

- noumuon, on 11/15/2009, -1/+21it's unfortunately common in for chinese to be racist, but the issues in china go even further. there is a strong sense of regionalism - people from other provinces are often considered inferior. you should hear shanghai people talk about beijing people and vice versa. it's obviously not applicable to everyone, but it's too common.

I saw lots of Obama shirts and when I said I was american they always brought up Obama and had something nice to say... it may have something to do with the fact that obama wasn't george bush though.

- jaredchambers, on 11/15/2009, -1/+15This is true but there is a predilection with lighter skin in China, Japan, and Korea due to the association of darker skin with being lower-class, which is the main cause for it being considered unattractive in these countries. Of course this was also a commonly held view in America until tanning gained popularity with the upper-class in the 1920's; much like China, the sell of skin-lightening products was popular in the 19th century.
