- SystemicThought, on 06/08/2009, -11/+92Heh... Republicans, Fox News, and the Taliban all agree on something...
- NorrisOBE, on 06/08/2009, -3/+77Hi Digg,
as a Muslim, let me say this:
***** the Taliban! - BassMastr, on 06/08/2009, -1/+67I don't think anyone on the face of the plaent expected this speech to change the Taliban's impression of us.
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/07/2009, -9/+68I don't care what the Taliban thinks. I am not about to be sucked into their '5 year old acting out for attention' BS.
- ElGubrush, on 06/08/2009, -2/+60Well personally I am pleased they are worried enough to have to release a public statement in order to try and convince the Muslim world that Obama's speech was deceptive.
And anyway, Taliban and Al Quaeda are the KKK of the Muslim world anyway. I bet most Muslims react to things they say like I would react to a Westboro Baptist Church funeral picket - NanFan, on 06/07/2009, -12/+58I doubt that anything anyone would say from the West to the Taliban would be taken as truthful, but we MUST get this torture and imprisonment "thing" that we allowed the Bush administration, and others before his, to perpetrate, off our backs!
We will never be "friends" with the Taliban; we will never settle the Middle East, regardless of the fact that we played an enormous role in disrupting it, and continue to do so. Our job now is to clean up the mess, the hubristic acts, the dishonor heaped upon us, the evil perpetrated before this Obama administration began its work, and hold the US government accountable for ANY actions its public servants perpetrate in our names that disgrace us.
We are not the ugly Americans the world thinks we are, but our government representatives' actions have been for way too long.
No more...regardless of what the Taliban THINK they know about us and some "hidden agenda," we must walk as we talk, we must be honorable in all we do.
Nan - peacebyanymeans, on 06/08/2009, -4/+42As a moderately knowledgeable person, let me say this:
***** you - mithrasinvictus, on 06/08/2009, -6/+39They also all stand to benefit from a new attack.
- SSPink, on 06/08/2009, -5/+37They agree on lots of things: the continuation of the war in Iraq, electing more republicans, bombing as a great way to win hearts and minds, war as a panacea, they both believe that "war of terror" is a war between Christianity and Islam, and that Barack Obama's success would be the worst thing that could possibly happen for them, just to name a few.
- rabidjester, on 06/08/2009, -5/+36Well, they all dislike the gays..
- madmack, on 06/08/2009, -0/+27i'm a muslim. and yea, i do react to them like you do to a Westboro Baptist Church funeral picket
- spookyttws, on 06/08/2009, -5/+28We could freely and democratically elect Osama Bin Laden himself to the office of Presidency and he and the rest of the Taliban still wouldn't be happy with what our country does. Logic means nothing to these people. I was hopeful when we invaded Afghanistan that we would be able to remove these people power, but instead we decided to stop taking out the real terrorists there and went off to invade Iraq who had nothing to do with the people who attacked us.
- JStraum, on 06/07/2009, -2/+24The speech was all of what, 3-4 days ago? Too soon to tell frankly, what we do know is the global attempt at crushing them militarily isn't all it's cracked up to be either huh? Sooner or later, it all comes down to communication - good on ya BHO!
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 06/08/2009, -6/+28Nor did the idiotic actions of the previous administration. Remind me again, why is your opinion worth a *****?
- ShingoEX, on 06/08/2009, -13/+34The Republicans and Taliban are sounding more and more alike everyday :P
- ElGubrush, on 06/08/2009, -3/+23Really? Seems to me like the Taliban are about as right wing as you can go. Perhaps you have more in common with them than you think.
- CoreyTamas, on 06/08/2009, -0/+20No, but that's not the intent: I think it's more likely that the speech is meant to change Muslim's impression of the Taliban.
- DeadPlasmaCell, on 06/08/2009, -3/+21Wow you must have really hated the Bush adminstration then..
- sharpyetblunt, on 06/08/2009, -1/+19elitist = not dumb redneck
- Jensaarai, on 06/08/2009, -2/+19One more thing the Taliban and Republicans have in common. I mean, despite hatred of women, gays, people of other races/creeds/religion and the occasional willingness to stick up for a terrorist.
/s... maybe - Helois, on 06/08/2009, -3/+20I had to check your profile Barackalypse , it seems that all you do all day is talk about politcs and Obama.Do you think anyone is going to change there opinion because of you? Get over yourself u narcissistic *****.
- Mikey129, on 06/08/2009, -1/+17Let me guess... Something that has do with jews?
- itsthemechanic, on 06/08/2009, -2/+18While the Taliban should clearly STFU, the Muslim world has good reasons to be doubtful. America has occupied one of the most oil-rich countries in the world and built permanent military bases there, and supported one of the most brazen and violent regimes down there (Israel) for decades. It's going to take more than soaring rhetoric to change this perception. A bit of "hope and change" waffle isn't going to convince anyone down there, and for good reason.
- MacParrot, on 06/08/2009, -0/+13Sooooo...all Christians, Buddists, Hindi, etc act exactly the same way under any given stimuli? I look forward to the day that Digg removes accounts based on the stupidity of what people like you say.
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/08/2009, -0/+13Because people are scared, because people think the extremists of any religion dictate the core of a religion. The same way that people think (at least in the USA) that political pundits actually represent the core principals of any political philosophy.
In that comment I am simply trying to state that some idiots should not be respected for their ability to take lives. An animal could be trained to arm a nuclear weapon. It takes an intelligence to grow the hell up, and raise above it all.
seriously, whatever happened to the: "If we are cowards, If we accommodate these people, then they have won!" attitude? I didn't think that all changed just because we have a democrat as the president. - ElGubrush, on 06/08/2009, -0/+13why does everyone keep talking about jews?
I like Orange jews, apple jews, heck even V8
HOW IS JEWS TO BLAME FOR 9/11?!?!
Are they putting something in our jews?!? - dwhitbeck, on 06/08/2009, -0/+12The taliban are a bunch of gangsters hiding behind a religion,
- ncnavguy, on 06/08/2009, -0/+12I hate to tell you that the Taliban does not equal the world view for Islam. Every community has there black sheep as I'm sure you well know sir.
- WasabiBomb, on 06/08/2009, -1/+12You know what the worst thing about narcissism is?
It's named after someone else. - TheGreatHambino, on 06/08/2009, -0/+10I wasn't aware that the Taliban was holding open response press conferences on American politics.
- UNCsucks, on 06/08/2009, -0/+10Wow, really? Digg has become so infantile.
- rabidjester, on 06/08/2009, -0/+10Why is this being dugg down?
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -2/+11SHOUTING IS A GOOD SUBSTITUTE FOR ACTUAL CRITICISM
- sharpyetblunt, on 06/08/2009, -2/+11you're a douche mate!
- lemur, on 06/08/2009, -0/+9Saying "F*** the Taliban" is actually not an ignorant thing to say. It is incredibly vulgar and bad manners, which you might be justified in complaining about, but if we were to reword his statement using civilized language, it would be something to the effect of, "I fully oppose the Taliban," which is an intelligent and worthwhile sentiment.
- FordSVT1, on 06/08/2009, -1/+10There is tons of oil in Alaska being produced, only a tiny fraction (insignificant compared to the amount readily available in the M.E.) is being protected. Try again.
- ElGubrush, on 06/08/2009, -0/+9Barackalypse, I want to give you props for responding in a civil and intelligent way, I really do, but your name is Barackalypse which, really, are you ***** kidding me?
- IKORKYI, on 06/08/2009, -1/+9why is it so difficult to get that no matter what people do or what potential lives you will save, you can not treat humans like that. there is no reason or excuse you can give that justifies abducting people from other countries, not giving them any sort of trial, and possibly, under the definition of the word from the geneva contention, torture them.
YOU CAN'T DO IT. it is against our ideals, and its wrong. - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+8We're not trying to get the extremists to change. We're trying to help build up opposition to the extremists.
- Barackalypse, on 06/08/2009, -14/+22You take special care to not blame any of this mess on Obama, but you completely ignore his executive orders that still allow the CIA to carry out renditions (secret abductions of prisoners that are transferred to other countries for interrogation). To say nothing of his support of telcom immunity for warrantless wiretapping, his support of state secrets in those wiretapping cases, and his vote to re-authorize the Patriot Act. In short, you speak loftily, but you're either blind to the truth or a partisan.
http://articles.latimes.com/2009/feb/01/nation/na- ... - afallowhorizon, on 06/08/2009, -0/+8Well, I appreciate the effort, but I feel your argument would have been much stronger if you'd included the word sheeple a few times. Perhaps sprinkle something about a new world order in there too. Don't give up, though, you show a lot of promise. Just put a bit more effort into sounding crazy.
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+8Which is why the solution to them is to reduce the number of converts. What they're really afraid of is that Obama's actions will result in less hatred of America, which means fewer people signing up for their extremist *****.
- Rahaz, on 06/08/2009, -2/+10They scared now.
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+8CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL
- DouglasQ, on 06/08/2009, -6/+14Bitch bitch bitch
- coldkodiak, on 06/08/2009, -0/+8you're not going to see anything like that until after Obama is reelected in 2012.
- freefalll, on 06/08/2009, -0/+8No man... it's the Freemasons! World Government! International bankers!
Not really
Personally, I'm suspecting the dolphins - kmkg, on 06/08/2009, -0/+7Eh? Nothing personal against or for Obama. No adjectives either. He *is* a politician. For a person to get where he is now, they have to have the right amount of ambition (of whichever kind), the correct timing, etc...
- MacParrot, on 06/08/2009, -0/+7"Personally, I'm suspecting the dolphins"
So long and thanks for all the fish! - CoreyTamas, on 06/08/2009, -0/+7I hate when someone ticks me.
