Sickening!! - principle, on 11/18/2008, -1/+23Obama already voted in the Senate to grant Bush immunity for torture and eavesdropping. So if Bush does not grant blanket pardon to all who followed his orders in committing these crimes, Obama will. He has to! The only question is what is he going to get in exchange?
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -1/+22Anyone feel like a sucker for voting for Obama yet? We who campaigned for genuine peace and justice candidates tried to warn you about this. It's not as if Obama had not been obvious about his intentions. Remember the PATRIOT act? Remember FISA? Remember the Wall Street Bailout Ripoff?
- JKap, on 11/18/2008, -1/+22The hits just keep on coming: "I have said repeatedly that America doesn't torture..." Obama said.
"I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breaches, and intentional breaches of the president's authority...I believe if we began impeachment proceedings we will be engulfed in more of the politics that has made Washington dysfunction...We would once again, rather than attending to the people's business, be engaged in a tit-for-tat, back-and-forth, nonstop circus." -Barack H. Obama
IF YOU'RE NOT OUTRAGED THEN YOU'RE ON THE KOOLAID! - JoeParanoid, on 11/18/2008, -0/+18This was always the plan. What did you think "bipartisanship" meant?
- sheeplescareme, on 11/18/2008, -1/+16the presidency.
- StingingNettle, on 11/18/2008, -0/+12Digg is bi-polar. Everyone digs up articles against bailouts - Obama votes for bailout, Everyone diggs up anti-FISA bill articles - Obama votes for FISA, everyone diggs up anti-war - Obama says he will increase troops in Afghanistan, Everyone diggs articles saying deficits DO matter (despite what Cheney says) - Obama just said we shouldn't pay attention to our national debt for the next few years, Everyone digs up Bush is a war criminal - Obama and Nanci give him free reign.
- 08soso, on 11/18/2008, -0/+10Tell him on change.gov that this is not what we signed up for. This is much more within his control than Lieberputz.
- Arcueid01, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8Dude, that's why I voted for Paul's endorsee. I wasn't about about vote for just another politician and I'm sorry. Obama is just another politician. He will tell you what you want to hear and say it better than ol Mr. Bush. Don't expect change. That ambiguous term can mean many things. Of these many meanings it could mean change in the person who is the President, change of the cabinet member, change in the level of eloquence used when speaking, etc; however, I don't think that means that the cronyism is going to change! I also don't think that the flip-flopping is going to change either. We all know Obama is good for that. I am not going to say FISA anymore!
- lazerus9, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8Because Bush and Obama and all of the other criminals work for the same people.....and it ain't US!
- lazerus9, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6Here is a good video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bew_9GeuGA4
- avengingturnip, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Of course not. It is part of "the agreement" between parties after Monica-gate that they would never investigate or prosecute eachother again.
- NonServium, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Yet another sucker who thinks that to not vote Democrat, one HAS to vote Republican!
- shylove, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I believe the people at the top who stated clearly that we have taken the gloves of civilization off in order to protect civilization should answer for it. But if not our entire country is answering for it around the world and will continue to do so. Perhaps it is all off us that have no clothes!!!
- BuckQJohnson, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3I am mad about this decision from the Obama camp, really mad. Every time and I do mean every time, the people in the prior administration and the foot soldiers don't get in trouble for actions they knew where illegal internationally and in the US, but since the president said it was okay it's okay. There was a group of people and generals not to long ago that where told that following orders isn't an excuse for war crimes (Neuremberg). The world has to see that we will take to task the people who did illegal things in the name of our country. What I fear is that Bush and now Obama if he doesn't go after anybody may have set the bar lower for other countries to do the same thing that we have done.
You know why the smart military officers in the US didn't like or want to do this torture or rendition thing, it's because someday in the future it may be american troops that are being waterboarded or locked up in cages or killled or raped etc. to get information from them. The assumption that Bush and alot of politicians around the US have is that the US will ALWAYS ALWAYS be the number one country in the world and nobody will come to our doorstep and tell us different. But history has many examples showing great powers that folded onto intself and imploded from overreach, financial Foolery and inept leadership. We as a nation has been around close to 280 years, and we are burning very very bright, and as you know the candle or light that burns twice as bright last half as long.
We are leaving our kids a world where they will be hated and their ability to protect themselves from that hate either won't be there or won't have any effect. Rules that govern a society and how it does war is done because the soldier or politician or whomever has to be comfortable in the fact that whatever they do or what they have done in whatever far off place won't have any consequences on their family back home. The old days before any rules on war, they vanquished where literally consumed by the victor. Their lands taken their women taken and their men demasculated from being able to do anything about the draconian conditions that victors justice has on the defeated. Allies and enemies remember how a nation treats the defeated and so it's no shock to see when said nation becomes the vanquished, they may be treated just like or even worse than the people and nations they conquered.
Always remember, one day your the victor the next you can be the vanquished. - joshstone100, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3"Remember the PATRIOT act? Remember FISA? Remember the Wall Street Bailout Ripoff?"
Remembering last weeks American Idol contestants, the latest Brad Pitt action thriller plot and who won Dancing With The Stars proves to be a more worthwhile pursuit for most Americans.. - joshstone100, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3"No substance to back it up."
Much like his speeches.
Change and hope were advertising slogans to be marketed. Nothing more. Mere soundbites to entice the voting populace into choosing one paid-for puppet over the other. - inactive, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3You should help him.
- GonzoMuckraker, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Obama advisers said in a published report that the President-elect would make good on part of a campaign promise by taking the money that would have been spent pursuing justice, and instead doll it out in equal quantity to every single American citizen by way of coin mailers.
AKA: Change we can spend at the gas station. - inactive, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2I believe it was referred to as Fellatio-gate.
- DiggerXtreme, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2This is the change that democrats voted and hopedfor.
Smart move, abeed-al-beit. - joshstone100, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Nuremberg Trials didn't happen overnight either.
- CoolHandLuke70, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4yeah, "Change" from bad to worse. It is all a neo con game!
- NonServium, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1That assumes Obama actually wants to do the kinds of changes Jim and most americans would want, which is absolutely false.
There's no "helping" Obama end the war, because Obama doesn't want to end the war. There's no "helping" Obama fix the economy, because Obama doesn't want to fix the economy. Obama, not jimh54, is in a position to do these things if he wanted to. He doesn't, and when he fails to do them don't blame jimh54 and the rest of the good citizens of the US for not helping Obama enough. - coyote1284, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2But it'll be a different KoolAid... maybe grape.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1It must be great to be a citizen in a country where citizens have zero accountability.
It really is the greatest country on earth. - coyote1284, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1"everyone diggs up anti-war"
That's for the Iraq war, quite a few diggers support returning to the one they think we should have finished instead of changing focus. - bugwayji, on 11/18/2008, -2/+0 Compared to the Suckers who voted for Bush?
- dreamtiger, on 11/18/2008, -13/+7Give 'em a break. Obama needs to make it to Jan 20 in one piece. If you were Obama now, would you declare war on the Neocons at this time? I think some of this stuff will shake out further down the line. It may be more politically feasible for others, like Kucinich, to pursue this, with Obama letting it happen.
- deadlyhaiku, on 11/18/2008, -10/+2January 20 can't come soon enough.
