- inactive, on 04/27/2009, -17/+212YOUR CHANCES OF DYING BY A DRUNK SLAMMING INTO YOU W/SUV are a hundred thousand times higher than being blown up by a "Terrorist" or contracting the pig flu. Americans are sick of media fear mongering, we want our freedom back!
- presidentraygun, on 04/27/2009, -6/+179Well to be safe, I've stopped having sex with Miss Piggy.
- EMFK, on 04/27/2009, -2/+171This is taking "expect the worst" to the nth degree. We'll know the swine flu will become a worldwide epidemic when submissions to Digg fall dramatically.
- samk, on 04/28/2009, -1/+166Nah, contagious diseases disproportionately affect people who have lots of physical contact with other people. Digg is safe.
- nukeleearr, on 04/27/2009, -5/+139Madagascar's ports have been closed for 48 hours, it's def. the real deal here.. WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE
- Dumbledorito, on 04/28/2009, -2/+121You say "mass death," I say "sharp decline in unemployment figures."

- wonkavsn, on 04/28/2009, -0/+52Kent Brockman: Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?
Professor: Yes I would, Kent. - michaelpinto, on 04/27/2009, -7/+58If we could just link the flu to illegal immigration and killer bees from Mexico then Lou Dobbs could be set for life!
- nymphetamine, on 04/28/2009, -1/+47So that means she's available?
- ifruit, on 04/28/2009, -2/+48rabble rabble rabble...

- trolleyfan, on 04/28/2009, -3/+35So:
1918 - 50 million dead
1957 - 2 million dead
1968 - 1 million dead
- I see a trend -
2009 - a couple of thousand dead? - thezettabytes, on 04/28/2009, -1/+31RUN TO THE HILLS..... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES
- DreamADream, on 04/27/2009, -7/+35Please do not let any more of their fear tactics permeate your lives. Isn't it enough that a recession has been premeditated to scare the hell out of the world's population now swine flu...leave us alone.
- lukis100, on 04/28/2009, -6/+32Conspiracy theory: Isn't it a very good time for this swine flu to appear?
- turnipradish, on 04/28/2009, -1/+26I heard on the news this morning that the 20 people in the US and the 6 people in Canada who were infected by the swine flu are ALL RECOVERING, yet the show still made it seem that this swine flu is something the entire world should be ***** themselves over. It's ridiculous.
- Quisquis, on 04/28/2009, -1/+26too early. guess the myans forgot to set their clocks for armageddon savings time.
- Lefts, on 04/28/2009, -0/+23"Preparing for the zombie apocalypse," I believe is the term they use for living in basements.
- 4rp4n3t, on 04/28/2009, -0/+22wtf is swin fly?
- KORGOTH, on 04/28/2009, -0/+21Honestly, I just dugg you down to preserve my combo. Acceptable losses and all that.

- greenlight2001, on 04/28/2009, -3/+22I'm pretty certain your mom isn't affected, so keep at it.
- Quisquis, on 04/28/2009, -0/+19at least you warned us before you said it.
- zephc, on 04/28/2009, -1/+19Hundreds of millions died? Oh hmm well okay.
What?? The economy lost HOW much money???
It's all about priorities, people. - samk, on 04/28/2009, -5/+23Er, no. You can calculate the probability of getting killed by a drunk driver because the stats for that don't change that much month to month, year to year.
But you have no basis for making a claim about the odds of getting killed by a nuclear bomb detonated by a terrorist, or by a new virus, which we know little about. For all you know the odds of getting killed by the swine virus may be 100%.
Or it may be zero.
Look up the word, 'unknown'. - Shootfast, on 04/28/2009, -0/+16Don't forget the Africanised Honey bees!
- JugularJuice, on 04/27/2009, -3/+18First half = fear mongering, Second half = real. dugg for a concise example of modern journalism.
- otbeverly, on 04/28/2009, -2/+16And all this started shortly after the "Digg Dialog" with Trent Reznor.
Coincidence? I think so! - DiggzDE, on 04/28/2009, -0/+14@diggbury: I can predict that if she comes down here, she'd better bring some bagel-bites down as well.
- Lefts, on 04/28/2009, -0/+1320 people is an incredible sample size.
- SirCharge, on 04/28/2009, -6/+19They're scare mongering.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 04/28/2009, -1/+14Patient Zero
http://ooliquidnightoo.tumblr.com/post/100862161/p ... - eryximachus, on 04/28/2009, -3/+15143 million people is 2% of the world's population. That is hardly a significant reduction in our numbers. If that's the ultra worst case... I'd relax.
- otbeverly, on 04/28/2009, -2/+13Ayyy arr urrr oooOO!
- duncan202, on 04/28/2009, -1/+12...Dugg for Maiden?
- TheBigBad, on 04/28/2009, -0/+11You're a little low. Regular flu kills between 250k to 500k every year.
- neilk85, on 04/28/2009, -1/+12this is scare mongering....remember all the fear and projections involving Bird Flu and how it would lead to hundreds of thousand if not millions of deaths? Well, guess what only 248 people (worldwide) have died of the Bird Flu TOTAL....i.e. since the its inception. (http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=953876n)
Thats it, and for comparison the common flu virus, Influenza, leads to 500,000 deaths worldwide ANNUALLY and how often do you see people freak out, wear masks etc over Influenza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza).
The media often overblows the risk for these catastrophic "disease of the day" stories.....you're several hundred or thousands of times more likely to die from plain old influenza, car accidents, and cancer so lets just chill out for a sec. - wonkavsn, on 04/28/2009, -2/+13Pfft get with the times.
- GraceHead, on 04/28/2009, -2/+13Let me know when they start taking BACON off all the shelves, ok?
