"Jimmy, sit down and eat your dinner."
"No."
"Don't make me get out the Taser, Jimmy."
"The what?"
"The Taser. Now sit down and eat your dinner."
"NO."

"Don't forget to eat your peas, Jimmy." - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -17/+89Thats kind of crazy. If you can't handle a little kid, you probably shouldn't be on the force.
- Uranium118, on 10/10/2007, -15/+85"children" is such a cute word, what if we use "17 years old meth head with a baseball bat" instead ?
Nobody is going to taser some 7 years old kid playing in the park, it's the adolescents who cause trouble. If you do a crime, prepare to face the consequences, in this case a taser. - backwoodsbob, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35Problem is some of those kids are packing 9mm's, and, English cops don't carry guns.
I don't think this is going to end well. - stklaw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34boom headshot?

http://www.knbc.com/news/3768716/detail.html - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23I do believe we in America are progressive enough to have been tasering kids for years.
- jaffacake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24I can't wait to watch some chavs getting tasered on UK Street Crime.
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22Uh oh, logic! GET OFF DIGG!
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15People should stop calling 16 year olds children.
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15As if you'd actually do anything about it. Is it worth the jail time?
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Ya ya death and destruction armageddon abound we get it.
- JiMiThInG, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Its about time we find a way to get these damn kids back in line. I say more tasters and maybe even spanking, or hell we could get real crazy and start actually raising our kids!
- evilish, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17Or, instead of the 17 year old meth head with a baseball bat. How about a 17 year old running around the local high school with a replica samurai sword?
I haven't heard of any meth heads but I know for a fact we had a guy slash several people near here at the local high school. Now, imagine your the cop attending this such an incident.
You find the guys in a hallway of a school building. The guy doesn't put down the weapon. Pepper spray has no effect. Just pisses the guy off more. He swings the blade violently as he approaches you. You have not been given a taser gun yet (since there is still public outcry over its potential misuse).
Your last option is your sidearm. What do you do?
- Evil - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -12/+23Man things are getting ***** crazy in this world. If it's being tested in the UK, chances are that it could make it's way across the pond to us in the US. I can say you wouldn't want to be the cop who tasers my kids.
- TacticalPenguin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13they're not talking about "kids", they're talking about minors; a 17 year old is basically an adult.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Well seeing as the behavior hasn't been bred out of the children yet.
- Rosamilia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10he would totally tie up that random cop in months of litigation
so badass. - Myonosken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Works its way across to the US? Its happened the other way round muppet.
- stklaw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Actually, the taser is probably needed.
Kids, just like adults, are also possible a threat. Maybe weapon possession or something.
As long it's not abused, I think it's fine.
Those li'l *****. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12It's about damn time
- fieldmill, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Buried purely for being in the mail.
- Bread, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Now all they need to do is fix the justice system.
- Yage2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9If kids means 13-18 years of age then good.
- Vash265, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Fantastic. You dugg up 7 stories about police using tasers in very questionable circumstances. Couple this with the 15-20 police "brutality" videos that have been released on the internet as of late and we have ourselves a full fledged police state!
...oh wait, here are 8 more stories about neo-nazi's attacking and killing groups of minorities! And 9 about the KKK assaulting gay activists and black men and women! IT'S ANARCHY!!!!
(or sensationalism...)
The vast majority of police officers have common sense. If a story was posted every time a cop DIDN'T use his taser when perhaps he could have, or even when he most certainly shouldn't have like the above instances, these pages would be flooded with reports of good people. Instead, people, as usual, look for the worst, and cherry pick the bad stories. Hopefully these men and women are prosecuted, but as fate would have it, they probably won't be, just like the pricks in the LA Riots and just like every other ***** police officer who should be fired but isn't. It's tough *****, but it's been that way for a century now. There are good, level headed, sensible people, and then there are people who make the headlines. - CMBlue, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Awesome.
- JaYBrooks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Time to bring out the belt again... Keep the kids in line so they have respect. This crap where you talk to your kid instead is obviously not working.
- Notsafetoeat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10I fabricate my own situations too.
- eam52guy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Broken Record time: The Daily Mail is a totally unreliable source for news. Automatically buried.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Russel Peters? Never heard of him.
-England - psylent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5About time, it's about time someone dealt with the chav kids.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Good news. We have gangs of 'kids' running about killing people, while I hope the police will never have to use it, they should certainly be allowed and prepared for the possibility of needing it.
- HigherLogic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Doesn't matter, he said, "Nobody is going to taser some 7 years old kid playing in the park", therefore, the place is irrelevant, and he showed examples to prove otherwise.
- Myonosken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Have you seen these "kids"? If you've ever tried walking down Moss Side, you'll notice these "kids" carry bats and knives and recently stabbed a ***** 11 year old.
- dbr_onix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5As a recently "ex-kid" (Not long left school), I actually agree. There were plenty of annoying people in my school classes that completely ignored pretty much all instructions from the teacher, talked/argued back etc etc. There was pretty much no way to control such people now.
From my parents school-tales, as bad as it sounded geting belted/caned - it the teachers these days were allowed to do that today, I bet there'd be a lot less bad behavior and general [ned/chav/etc]'yness. Not from a constant fear of the belt, but
All the "You can't do that to our poor little innocent children!" pleas are silly, as long as the use of belt or such was strictly controlled, the kid was obviously doing wrong to get in that place in the first place..
Which brings me to this article - I don't see problem with the police being allowed to Taser "children" if it's nessisary.
Obviously going around tasering 2 year olds is idiocy, but that's never going to happen:
The cases where it would be used like on violent (drunk) teenagers, gangs of said teenagers, generally violent people etc, are all perfectly valid - They are (or should be) more than capable of avoiding getting into such situations with the police. If they are hanging around on their own, or with friends, they should be mature enough to avoid picking fights with police officers and such. - Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5and maybe break some bones, perhaps hit their head on a hard surface.
the point of a taser isnt because you cant fight them, its not like using a gun. its because its safer then fighting them, its a low impact restraint. - Foamator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Obeezy, you've never met a gang of chavs.
They behave less like "kids", and more like hordes of zombies in a survival horror game. - Touchy610, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I was tasered when I was 13 because I was panicking at being arrested for the first time for throwing a book at my step-father. I was only panicking, mind you, not throwing punches or running away, I just collapsed on the floor and started screaming that I didn't want to go. Little did the cops know that I suffer from an arrhythmia, and the shock of the taser caused me to go into convulsions and stop breathing. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital and 2 months on a breathing machine because of that.
The thing I have against using tasers, period, is that a cop may not know what is wrong with a person that they are going after. Also, there are a few cops out there that are pretty much gluttons for power, no matter how small an amount. I can see no problem using it for a life-threatening situation, but just to take some teenage thief down is a bit questionable.
This is, of course, the view of an American, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in. - dasaroth, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Did i hear they wont taser a child? Never been to Florida i see.....http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6468373/
- Pake, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7That dumb bitch in the last article deserved it. First off, you DON'T run from the ***** police. EVER. The only reason a person tends to do that is if they are going to grab a weapon or have something to hide. Then she decides to hide in a closet and refuses to come out. That also says two things. She possibly has a weapon or is trying to hide something. Also, that last article has nothing to do with tasering children/teens who are acting up and more about tasering potentially pregnant women. Lastly, the "Fla Deputy", "Officer shoots", and "Taser on children OK" are all dead links.
- TridenTBoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5That's america... Not Britain.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You must be 16.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -2/+6what a strange bunch you diggers are. articles come and go about cops tasering adults and you guys go insane about police being brutal and "misuse of force" etc. etc. but then a story pops up about police tasering underage kids and you guys are all for it. just an observation. kinda strange. but i'll go with it.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Or most likely getting shot..
- compubomb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3makes a lot of sense, but sadly in the US i believe i saw on TV they tried to try a kid of age 6 for killing his 2 year old brother or something to that effect as an adult, a 6 yr old kid is an adult ? in what society ? only in the USA.
- alextolman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Or Salford where they actually have guns!
- diggn_it, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3that's probably because the UK cops don't carry guns. But don't let stupid facts stop you from America bashing...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5They should refer to them in the most proper of terms: retards.
- RSersen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4When all else fails, use a biased headline to create a public outcry.
How much negativity would this get if the headline were:
"Now British police are told they can use Taser guns on adolescent punks"? - unclemeat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It does seem that way, but even 16 year olds qualify as children, right? Britain has lots of knife crime coming from people from around 13 and up. I think it makes sense to be able to taser a kid if he's going to stab you.
