- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -44/+204Why has America become Israel's bitch like this? How did this happen?
- SuperMoses, on 05/05/2008, -10/+75I'd hardly consider Israel's oldest and most influential newspaper, Haaretz, a "sketchy source"
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -8/+67Here is a direct link to the Haaretz article: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/980193.html
It may not be particularly lengthy or detailed, but I doubt they would fabricate such a story. - flossdaily, on 05/05/2008, -111/+164Things I've learned from reading Digg threads about Israel:
#1) Jews control the media. But somehow, Israel gets terrible press from everyone in the world except Fox News.
#2) Jews control the government. Nevermind that our president is an ultra-christian nutjob, and that no Jew has ever been elected to the presidency or vice presidency, nor have they ever had even anything approaching a majority in either house of congress or the judiciary.
#3) Israel is evil. Nevermind that Israel's government and culture is almost exactly like our own, and guarantees all the same civil liberties we enjoy here (including freedom of religion for ALL religions including Islam). nevermind that Arab/Muslim citizens in Israel enjoy ALL the same rights and privileges that Jewish citizens do.
#4) Israel doesn't have the right to exist. Nevermind that the land was PURCHASED over several decades, and that sovereignty was handed over by the recognized controller (Britain), and that its creation was legitimized by the United Nations.
#5) Israel is responsible for all the bloodshed. Nevermind that not a single drop of blood would ever have been shed over Israel had it not been attacked by its neighbors over and over and over again.
#6) The plight of the Palestinians is all Israel's fault. Nevermind that the countries which used to be home to the refugees REFUSED to take them in after Israel annexed the land in a defensive attack. Nevermind that the Israelis offered the Palestinians the most generous land-for-peace deal in the history of the world (98% of the land they wanted, and HALF of Israel's holy city, Jerusalem). Nevermind that the Palestinians weren't living in poverty under Israeli occupation, but only when they started managing their own utilities and soforth- because their elected leader, Yassar Arafat was pocketing billions of dollars in aid intended for his people. - Hetman, on 05/05/2008, -7/+51Sorry do not care about isreal. I do not care about palestine. I care about getting Americans troops home so we do not have to deal with the craziness that is going on over there. I would prefer to pay 6 dollar for a gallon of gas instead of dealing with crazy religious fanatics jewish, islamic or Christian.
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -54/+98Wonder why the media isn't covering it. http://www.natvan.com/who-rules-america/index.html
- americangoy, on 05/05/2008, -19/+56Really?
Then how do you explain Hillary Clinton's remarks that: "If Iran attacks our ally Israel, we (America -AG) will obliterate Iran from the map".
It is both parties, bought and paid for.
It is a truism that no American politician will DARE to say something negative, even mildly, about Israel, because the political power of the pro-Israel Lobby is THAT strong. - source1984, on 05/05/2008, -20/+52LOL. are you serious? Israel never demands anything from the U.S.? Oh really? What about the billions of dollars sent to them EVERY YEAR, military support, logistic support, blind eye for nuclear weapons, green light to break whatever human rights they want, green light to break political treaties. Israel NEEDS the U.S. If the U.S. withdraws military support for its little friend, you better believe Israel is in trouble if it doesn't change its ways.
- quarkie, on 05/05/2008, -26/+55As someone pointed out above, americangoy is wrong. He read the article wrong.
From the description: "One of the settlers drove a car at full speed into one of the diplomatic convoy's cars"
From the article: One of the rightists is reported to have driven his jeep into the convoy accompanying General William Fraser. Subsequently, one of the vehicles in the convoy heavily collided with the jeep, according to Israel Radio.
So, yes the guy was stupid and trying to cause trouble. But the blog posting paints a very inaccurate picture. - quarkie, on 05/05/2008, -11/+391939 wants their website back.
- kaelyiesta, on 05/05/2008, -14/+42Intent is what matters when judging people. Driving a vehicle directly into another tells me the intent was to kill and injure. That it did not succeed is irrelevant just as pointing a gun at someone and pulling the trigger only to find the bullet was a dud is irrelevant. The driver meant to harm someone. He didn't succeed in murder, but he could have.
Perhaps a Calvinist would say different, but I would agree that the driver is no better than any other person intent on murder. - inactive, on 05/05/2008, -21/+47This would have been big news had it happened in Russia, but in Isreal? I guess, Americans kinda got used to be treated like that.
- mweber02, on 05/05/2008, -23/+46I think the Israelis and the Palestinians both share responsibility for the violence. But for anyone to suggest that Israel "purchased" much the land from the Palestinians, as flossdaily has stated, is patently absurd. Read any one of the numerous history books that cover the Six Day War in 1967 and you will see that over ten thousand Palestinians were forced form their homes by Israeli soldiers. The vast majority of land seized during that war is still occupied by Israel. Oh, and flossdaily, I'd appreciate you posting any information concerning a treaty where Israel offered Palestine 98% of its land back and half of Jerusalem.
- bratterscain, on 05/05/2008, -11/+33I'd assume religion plays at least some role in it.
Religion...your gateway to unfounded hate. - zombies187, on 05/05/2008, -17/+37Too many Christians have loyalty to Israel before America.
- techweenie, on 05/05/2008, -10/+30Now, now, haters and baiters. There's plenty of blame to go around. Arab attacks synagogue and kills 8 -- all over the news. The week before that, IDF attacks Gaza and kills 116, and there is almost no news.
The situation isn't balanced; the reporting isn't balanced. You need to watch the BBC to understand what's going on. And no, the Jews do not control the media. But the decision-makers are more likely pro-Israel. And that's different. Most Jews do not blindly support everything Israel does. - FMWatkins, on 05/05/2008, -23/+42Hmm
"Every time we do something, you [Shimon Peres] tell me America will do this and will do that.. I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it."
- Ariel Sharon, 3 October 2001 - graderguy, on 05/05/2008, -8/+27most important phrase "holy city"
Funny how that "holy" stuff causes so much death, destruction and hatred, isn't it? - foopirata, on 05/05/2008, -12/+30So, EnigmaXO, what rights don't you have? Do you not get the same treatment only because you hear "lots of people" calling for "kicking Arabs outside of Israel" ? Because let me tell you - we hear a damn lot about kicking Jews out of Israel from other Arabs.
Myself, I've studied with Arabs, lived with them in the same dorms, went to their parties, went to their villages in the Triangle, hear their muezzins calling for prayer, nod with respect to their religious people I cross on my way in the Old City. I see Arabs every day as much of the part of the fabric of Israel.
As to Jerusalem being a "Palestinian city stolen in 67", you are telling me that Palestinians and Jordanians are the same thing? Because it is a known historic fact that the Old City was under Jordanian occupation until '67.
About the Hagana, I guess you're talking about Irgun and Etzel. Yes, they've done some horrible stuff. But do you really, really, really want to go into it and start comparing things that happened 50 years ago (and that Israel not only incorporates in its historical narrative but has made efforts to make amends) with stuff that happened, say, a couple of years ago, with buses full of children being targetted by Palestinian terrorists?
You want to help your Palestinian brothers, convince them to build instead of destroy, and we'll all be happy in two states for two people, and you'll be able to choose where you want to live, work and flourish together with your family and your loved ones, in peace and health, insh'Allah. - americangoy, on 05/05/2008, -13/+30You are missing the part in which A SETTLER RAMMED HIS CAR INTO THE DIPLOMATIC CONVOY.
Willfully missing, I would bet. - americangoy, on 05/05/2008, -8/+25Yeah, usually Ha'aretz is pure gold.
I trust that Israeli newspaper much more than I trust ALL American mainstream media news sources, TV, radio and internet, combined. - kemp34, on 05/05/2008, -10/+27George Bush is a fake Christian.

- dalittle, on 05/05/2008, -5/+21If you did that in the US to a police officer, they can and do shoot at you for an assault with a deadly weapon.
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -7/+23the extreme right wing israelis are crazy. some are against the state of Israel itself. One crazy right-winger assassinated the PM a few years back. but most israelis are not like that. they are like the evangelical christians here, except they are even more extreme because they do not have control over the government like they do in the u.s. (in some cases, they don't even want a government).

Okay, well, it's clear that you are an ignorant bigot, but I'm going to reply to your comment for the benefit of any open-minded readers that may happen by.
#1) You want to know who controls the media/ It's corporations, not Jews. Here's the list:
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0624-25.htm
#2) No, you don't have to be the president to influence politics. But as I pointed out earlier- there aren't a majority of jews in any political branch.
#3) First, Palestians aren't the rightful owners. That land was purchased. Besides, by that argument Native Americans are the "rightful owners" of the United States. And if you're attitude is based on the idea that the Arabs were there first, I would remind you that historically the Jews were there LONG before Islam existed.
#4) Israel is occupying that land because people who thought that Israel didn't have the right to exist piled all their armies along its border. Israel took annexed the land in a defensive battle. Israel maintained its occupation in order to ensure its future safety, and all attempts to return the land while maintaining defensible borders has been rejected by the Palestinians.
5) Reading is fundamental. Pick up a history book and tell me who attacked who the day that Israel declared sovereignty.
6) The plight of the Palestinians is the fault of many. Not least of all the Palestinians themselves, who just recently officially elected a terrorist organization (Hamas) to be their ruling party. Before that, they had Yassar Arafat in charge, who hoarded billions of dollars in aid money that was supposed to go to his people. Oh, and he turned down the most generous land for peace offer in the history of the world at the Oslo Accords. - pintomp3, on 05/05/2008, -18/+32quick, let's send billions more of our tax payer dollars to israel.
- flossdaily, on 05/05/2008, -29/+42Nice neo-Nazi article you linked us to there. Here's a hateful little quote buried halfway down:
'And who are these all-powerful masters of the media? As we shall see, to a very large extent they are Jews. It isn't simply a matter of the media being controlled by profit-hungry capitalists, some of whom happen to be Jews. If that were the case, the ethnicity of the media masters would reflect, at least approximately, the ratio of rich Gentiles to rich Jews. Despite a few prominent exceptions, the preponderance of Jews in the media is so overwhelming that we are obliged to assume that it is due to more than mere happenstance."
5 corporations control 90% of all the media in this country. Its these CORPORATE interests guide our media coverage, not a Jewish conspiracy. But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of your crazy scapegoating.
Just let me know when you want the Jews to start identifying themselves by wearing star-of-david armbands. - HoratioHellpop, on 05/05/2008, -5/+18Many call themselves that, which are not. (Matthew 7:23)
- reynolds3g, on 05/05/2008, -2/+15news outlets don't report, they create.
- source1984, on 05/05/2008, -7/+19Canada doesn't have the type of love that Israel gets... trust me on that.
- bxblox, on 05/05/2008, -6/+18I care very little about Israel... I like carribean islands.... lets send them money instead... no wait.... lets just send no one money...
- rwinograd, on 05/05/2008, -43/+55Somehow these settlers are worse than Hamas suicide bombers? No one died.
The settlers are clearly right wing extremists, but please lets keep some things in perspective. - detales, on 05/06/2008, -5/+17I am so dumbfounded by some of these comments, and appalled by the website you just linked to.
From the article:
"They are presented with a single view of the world—a world in which every voice proclaims the equality of the races, the inerrant nature of the Jewish 'Holocaust' tale...—and the pressure to conform to that view is overwhelming."
and
"The Jewish control of the American mass media is the single most important fact of life, not just in America, but in the whole world today. There is nothing—plague, famine, economic collapse, even nuclear war—more dangerous to the future of our people. "
This article - which has received 35 diggs at the time of me writing this - advocates white supremacy, calls into question the legitimacy of the Holocaust, accuses "Jews" of conspiring to control the media and makes countless other OUTRAGEOUS charges that would be considered ludicrous by any academic or educated individual.
The digg community's support of this ***** is simply beyond appalling and gives a glimpse into one of the biggest obstacles Digg needs to overcome before it can be considered a legitimate platform for intelligent, rational and relevant debate.
You don't need to support Israel or conform to "mainstream" opinion, but to support such extreme views is both dangerous and irresponsible. - americangoy, on 05/05/2008, -21/+33Eh, not a big fan of FAR right websites.
- jsmith39, on 05/05/2008, -4/+15I don't disagree with you in spirit, but lets face it there is something rather awkward about our 'ally' in the Middle East. From giving (not loaning) them an excessive amount of money, to backing every horrible play they make, to turning a blind eye when they sell our military equipment to the Chinese. There is more going on than just an alliance.
- fiskehaps, on 05/05/2008, -5/+16EnigmaOX you really need to read some history.
from wikipedia:
"What remained of the territories allotted to the Arab state in Israel was annexed by Jordan (Judea and Samaria/the West Bank) or occupied by Egypt (the Gaza Strip) from 1948 to 1967. During this time, Jordan and Egypt did not normalize living conditions or establish an independent state for Palestinian Arabs."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Palestine# ...
To make Hagana a picture of all Israeli, is the same as we says that all Germans are like the SS (Schutzstaffel, a Nazi paramilitary force)
And what Hagana "did" was in the past, and it will never come peace in Israel/Palestine as long as the past still is remembered.
People that think your way, is the biggest reason why there still is a conflict - Rotzooi, on 05/05/2008, -26/+37Thank the GOP for opening up America to Israel like a giant goatse.
- laserdog, on 05/05/2008, -8/+19It's ramming. It's just not news.
Your write-up is disingenuous as it seems to imply that the envoy was hurt or killed. When in truth he and his car were completely unharmed.
You also mention a "group of settlers" while this seems to only be one crazy man? - flossdaily, on 05/06/2008, -2/+12Actually Israelis have been maintaining ancient Christian religious sites all over Israel with Israeli money, but keep on with the lies, they're making you popular.
- anonymiau, on 05/05/2008, -7/+17quarkie
The US has a ***** of allies all around the world. Check out the facts. No other ally sees anything resembling the blind support the US gives to Israel. Israel receives by far the most money, they even got 30 million dollars for weapons in the middle of the sub prime-crisis where actual Americans end up on the street. Seems the US government care a little bit more about zionists getting guns than they care about Americans getting roofs over their heads. And the US often go against other allies to block every single condemnation of Israel in the UN.
The US is Israel's little bitch, and that's why the crazy elitist Ohlmert can say on TV that he can pick a fight with anyone he wants, knowing that his American lapdog will come and do the dirty work for him. He owns the US, and he brags about it.
But yeah, he's a US "ally".
So what has the great "ally" Israel done for the US lately? - quarkie, on 05/05/2008, -4/+14"So, driving a car into a convoy of cars at full speed, and then colliding with one of the convoy's cars, is NOT ramming?"
Ramming: "ramming refers to hitting a target by running oneself into the target."
The jeep didn't do the ramming, he drove into the convoy (as opposed to driving into one of the cars of the convoy) and was hit.
Your source also doesn't mention anything about the speed he was going at.
So yes you are inaccurate. - inactive, on 05/05/2008, -5/+15That is why I said "at some level". You could make SOME case that our government gives Israel a pass, just not a really good one. Claiming that there are no TV stories critical of Israel is just americangoy closing his eyes and covering his ears.
- thecoolestguy, on 05/06/2008, -6/+16Lebanon is more of a democracy than Israel, yet Israel gets unconditional military backing to destroy Lebanon and billions in US tax dollar aid each year, not to mention tech transfers that subsidize Israel's multi billion dollars arms industry.
- Adamande, on 05/05/2008, -5/+15I wish people would develop the ability to distinguish between jews and zionists and debates like this would be a lot less messy. Zionism is a political movement. Zionists don't have to be jews and jews don't have to be zionists. But since you decided to keep this at kindergarten-level: how many atheists, muslims, hinduists or buddhists do you find in the Bush administration compared to jews?
