North Texas school district will let teachers carry guns

chron.com — In order for teachers and staff to carry a pistol, they must have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun; must be authorized to carry by the district; must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations... "When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started."

      How can you tie one to the other? and do you seriously believe that more guns in schools are even going to prevent mishaps? WE'RE DEALING WITH MOSTLY SUICIDAL TEENAGERS. They don't care if they get shot by the teachers. As long as they can get a couple of rounds off sooner and takes others with them. Plus, all they have to do is a little extra planning. As soon as a kid shoots his armed teacher, all other "Rambo" teachers are going to book it out of there, leaving the student with open range.

        Put a sign in your front yard that reads:

        NO GUNS ARE IN THIS HOUSE

        Then tell me how long it takes before you get robbed, beaten or even worse. By having the schools without weapons for self-defense it's the very same thing as that sign in your front yard.

        That's the issue we're dealing with here. Safety through self defense.

        As for suicidal teenagers, if you know of a cure for that let me know....we'll get rich together. And as long as there are lunatics running around we'll need the tools we need to defend ourselves from them. What these tragedies at schools tell us is that the police can't do it so it's up to us (as in teachers).

      I reckon some people don't give a ***** about accuracy or consistency when there is a chance to see more bloodshed!

      This won't work in the bigger cities and the judges will squash it before it goes to far. It just a matter of time before a teacher snaps and shoots a kid for not raising his/her hand.

      Teachers are there to set examples of upstanding people. Teachers with guns tells kids "come get me.".

      "Trained" doesn't cut it either. You start freely allowing guns to be possesed by people like teachers and janitors, you're asking for trouble. Some of these people will encounter troubles of their own and might turn the guns on others themselves! You guys are putting YOURSELVES in the heroic position, thats why you're all for it. But not everybody is like YOU and deserves to wield a gun. And the state sure isn't going to put all these people through psychiatric evals to see if their apt to posses a weapon amongst kids.

        And as far as Troika's argument, well how many other states have been school shooting free in the last ten years, without permitting guns? I bet many more. Youre argument can be purely coincidental.

  • noahsawyer, on 08/15/2008, -13/+9I think this is a bad idea. There is always the possibility of a teacher teacher using it wrongfully (ie: threatening for ill purposes). Just make sure that no gun are allowed in the school and there will likely be no problems.

I think the better solution is to discourage all fire arms from being brought into school by anyone in the first place. Sure, it's not foolproof, but it is a step.
