- Boogiedude, on 06/25/2009, -4/+86Perhaps if they find the Scottish flag intimidating, they shouldn't be in Scotland. Why put yourself through the stress?
- BillE3, on 06/25/2009, -6/+51Political correctness has hit Scotland.
- prompel, on 06/26/2009, -6/+45Time to kill off this "political correctness" ***** for good.
- lordmike, on 06/26/2009, -3/+31If it's not Scottish, it's CRAP!!!
- NorthMass, on 06/26/2009, -5/+27I don't understand the motives behind some in the politically correct crowd. All political correctness does is create hostility.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -4/+23Eggshell minorities are annoying.
- djpray2k, on 06/26/2009, -1/+19And what non-scots did you see having a problem with this?
Once again this involves pencil pushers jumping the gun with no sign of discontent from those they see themselves protecting. - Skurt, on 06/26/2009, -4/+19I thought this crap only happened in the US?
Oh Noes! You have an American flag on your desk, it might offend non-Americans! You must take it down!
Idiots... - Elohir, on 06/26/2009, -0/+15I'm English and went to Uni in Scotland.
Every week, in every uni pub, 30 hairy arsed scots rugbymen bellowing Flower Of Scotland...I can see how that might intimidating.
A bit of cloth with a white cross on a blue background...not so much. - IrishJoe, on 06/25/2009, -6/+20Land o' the purple heather.

- djpray2k, on 06/26/2009, -0/+10Once again this involves pencil pushers jumping the gun with no sign of discontent from those they see themselves protecting.
- Riccallo, on 06/26/2009, -0/+9Personally I don't have a problem with people displaying the Scottish flag, but the fact is that here in England we are discouraged from flying the English flag as it might offend the Welsh, Scottish, Irish etc. I doubt very much it does offend them, but the fact is we're still told there's a risk so on days like Saint Georges day it's being phased out. At the proms and other events in summer you used to get people waving the English flag, now it has to be the uniuon flag so's you don't promote division. You think political correctness is bad in Scotland? Try England. You're allowed to be proud to be Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Muslim etc. But English? Nope. That's frowned upon.
- Metallicanist, on 06/25/2009, -8/+17Just to add,i feel intimidated by asian's and mosques what can i do ?
- ultraJesus, on 06/26/2009, -5/+14If you have a problem with it then find a girlfriend, make a bunch of children, then take back your neighborhood with superior numbers.
Or you could, you know, accept that things change and try to make the best of it. - alexforcefive, on 06/26/2009, -15/+24Buried for absolute ***** lies. The guy had too much ***** on his desk and was told to remove it. End of.
- Elranzer, on 06/26/2009, -0/+9The problem is that in the USA, it's very likely where you work the majority of staff ARE non-Americans...
- alexforcefive, on 06/26/2009, -4/+13And much like the American flag story from the other week, this story is utter *****. FROM THE VERY ***** ARTICLE THAT NONE OF YOU SEEM TO HAVE READ:
A National Library spokesman reacted angrily to the row, saying the saltire was in no way regarded as "racist" and had not been banned. He said: "This issue is about the excessive adornment of one individual's workplace.
"It was more like the home end at Hampden, with three or four large flags on it. It would not matter whether it was the union flag or the flag of St George – that is not a professional work station." - Metallicanist, on 06/25/2009, -19/+27Message for all Scottish indigenous people's,Stand by your flag and be intimidating, for there's nothing more intimidating than living inside an asian community, forced upon you ! This used to be my playground !
- SpinningHead, on 06/26/2009, -2/+9Thats probably how the picts felt about the celts.
- piper999, on 06/26/2009, -1/+8Well one thing you probably should NOT do is move to Saudi Arabia expecting to be paid social security and then complain that their culture sucks and should be destroyed by any means necessary.
Are you listening, Scottish muslims? - crichards7, on 06/26/2009, -2/+9I dunno, I'm inclined to agree with 'da management' on this one. This is not about Scotland per se, but about a defiant (but irrelevant) display of 'identity' in a workplace, where everyone is meant to be on equal footing (I know, haw haw).
Who cares if you're proud to be Scottish/gay/from Mars. There's no need to make a big display of the fact in a work environment. And yes, it can come across as intimidating.
If it was a little flag on a stick on his desk, then fine, but it was a large display of multiple flags. At best, his co-workers would have thought "so, you're Scottish, who cares", at worst, it's "stay the hell away from that guy".
FTA:
"A National Library spokesman reacted angrily to the row, saying the saltire was in no way regarded as "racist" and had not been banned. He said: "This issue is about the excessive adornment of one individual's workplace."
Agreed, the journalist is a sensationalist *****. - zuiquan, on 06/26/2009, -0/+7I'd like to know when the Scotts started their own race. That's interesting to know.
- Radan, on 06/26/2009, -1/+7Interesting enough, very similar applies here in Sweden. While of course we fly our flag on national holidays and similar, but in whole the Swedish flag, and even our "national anthem" (technically we don't have one, but we often use the song "Du gamla du fria" in its place) is associated with ultra nationalism and we use them very sparsely. Overall, nationalism in general is very frowned upon here in Scandinavia.
- Pixelante, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6A scottish flag is not intimidating. A claymore is another matter.
If you can't bring one, bring the other and see which one they like better. - drunkenoaf, on 06/26/2009, -2/+8I bet you would be. The sgian dubh is part of the kilt outfit. A knife that's legal to carry in the UK.
Stitch that. - Boogiedude, on 06/26/2009, -6/+12"The result was an e-mail to all staff warning that such nationalistic displays could "intimidate non-Scottish colleagues".
I don't care what ***** the library came up with afterwards to cover their tracks after Scotland's politicians had thrown their arms up in the air, the e-mail was sent. End of. This is from a repsectable newspaper, not some trashy red top. - shedtroll, on 06/26/2009, -1/+7Can someone please tell me if anyone (Scottish or otherwise) actually said they found the saltire racist?
It's on all letters send out by the Scottish government or it's subdivisions. My dad's English and he doesn't find the saltire racist, nor do I find any flag (with some exceptions) offensive!
I always wonder, these rules are usually the result of advice from a think-tank, do these think tanks even have respresntation from the minorities they say will find the things they say are offensive, actually offensive? - Elohir, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6Oh I'm not complaining, there was never any trouble. They just liked taking the p***. :D Scots are a great bunch on the whole.
- IamNOTmrT, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6I find your avatar quite racist
- brettg102, on 06/26/2009, -1/+7I love Irn Bru. Thank god I have an importer locally. Go scotland!
- LouisCipher777, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5"If it's not Scottish it's [*****]"
fixt - TruthKid, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5How is this racist?
- drunkenoaf, on 06/26/2009, -1/+6Perhaps you should have gone to a different pub?
I'm Scottish and live in England. I'm amused by English rugby fans singing Swing Low Sweet Chariot in the pub.
Because public schoolboy rugger buggers have so much in common with black slave cotton workers' oppression from The Man (where that song originated). - govtdoesnotwork, on 06/26/2009, -4/+9Which creates the ideal condition to expand already-too-big governments. This is the motivation, but it's almost-never openly admitted.
- ozziedog, on 06/26/2009, -1/+6Freeeedom!
- Pixelante, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5Waving a flag and firing a starter pistol, like everybody else.
- lex0nyc, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5From the book of Mike Meyers, chapter 7.
- piper999, on 06/26/2009, -2/+7Are you saying you are now invading us, boot on the other foot and so on?
Pretty piss poor invasion I'm sorry to say since you remain at the bottom of the social order on a level with cockroaches. - piper999, on 06/26/2009, -1/+6If you actually read the article you would know that the director of customer services told employees about the policy of not having anything on desks which could be regarded as "sexist or racist". There it is. Black and white. They aren't talking about people putting too many of their kids pictures on the walls.
- DaryLintheDark, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5that guy must be a riot at the company christmas party.
- disappointed, on 06/26/2009, -3/+8I love how angry people get about a ***** non-story pulled out the arse of some bored journo hack. React first, read later.
- mattes5, on 06/26/2009, -2/+7Any display of your heritage, especially if it comes from a culture of dissenters is seen as taboo. Ex. Confederate flag. I am Scottish heritage and from the south, so I really shouldn't display any pride for my heritage I might offend the establishment.
- glaz, on 06/26/2009, -1/+6He's an ex-soldier. You're an idiot.
- protogenxl, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4NICE TRY JIMMY!
- piper999, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4That is not a phrase I ever expected to hear in my lifetime. A very sad day.
- Bowd99, on 06/26/2009, -3/+7I stick by my thoughts that people obsessed with political correctness are the most bigoted people you can meet. They actively see the differences that most of us don't and then feel that they have to speak up for people who may be offended.
- MrHappyMan, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4Can you find me someone who would be offended by this? Just one? No?
Sensationalist *****. - GLeNs, on 06/26/2009, -2/+6tell him to go ***** himself.
End of story, until fox news gets it - RogueGenius, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4Two things I can't stand: intolerance for other people and cultures... and the Dutch!
