- Dumbledorito, on 01/15/2009, -0/+22A friend of mine who works in Verizon's auditing department claimed that Verizon wasn't laying anyone off because they were doing so well. I also used to work for AT&T, and the execs are a bunch of internet-illiterate asshats who only care about monopolizing their industry and playing golf. I don't have any personal experience with Comcast, but I rarely see anything good about them posted here or anywhere.
In short, ***** them all. - option, on 01/15/2009, -0/+14It's sickening that we could even discuss giving tax dollars to these government-created pseudo-monopolies. I struggle to think of any other businesses that need help less.
I have worked as a contractor for AT&T and Time Warner. I know a lot of people at Verizon. These guys are flush! They have so much money that wasting by the millions is as natural to them as breathing.
We need to be talking about re-regulating and breaking up some recent telecom and utility mergers. That would actually control costs, create jobs and help the economy. - Alheithinn, on 01/15/2009, -0/+10Wonderful, mine goes to Souder. I'm not sure WHO Souder represents (other than his own pocketbook) but it's not me. At least he doesn't believe in bail outs so for once it might work in our favor.
- Lofnheidr, on 01/15/2009, -0/+9The last time I tried to sign up for Comcast, I had to call four different times because the hold was so long... to ORDER! Then when I did decide to finally wait, it took 45 minutes. I should have taken the clue that their customer service wouldn't be much better, but I didn't and every time I had a problem with the service, it was another 45 minute hold time to get through.
I absolutely support the rebuild of the infrastructure but perhaps this should be treated as more of a Grant than a Bailout. They have to apply and qualify to get Grant money and they have to prove what the money was used for or they can be forced to pay it back and then are barred from any more Grant money. That was what the "Bailout" should have done in the first place.
We can't bail out every sector of the country and not include the people that are working. - Horhay1234, on 01/15/2009, -0/+8Great campaign! Let's make sure Congress doesn't give a blank check to these Telcos!
- AshevilleRaised, on 01/15/2009, -0/+8They charge us an arm and a leg, but apparently they have no money? I call *****!
- eurekaspringsar, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7i think we need fiber speed access to every home in the nation... and we need it ten years ago! And we should do it ourselves - through government stimulus spending. It's the only way we can do it, do it well, quickly, and assure internet neutrality in both the short nd long term.
We should look at this situation... like the interstate system (ready for audubon speeds) ... Everyone has or needs a car.. and everyone needs unfettered access now. This would be the kind of spending which would benefit the nation for decades to come. - mikeyeah, on 01/15/2009, -2/+7One of the main reasons I'm against the bailout is because my ex-girlfriend works for Verizon. Maybe she'll lose her job and have to go back to stripping. Damn, I'm a vindictive bastard.
- Ysabetwordsmith, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4Those companies don't need the money. They just stuck their hands out because they saw the government waving blank checks around. Boo, hiss!
- bombayterror, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4why the hell is comcast on this list? they have been price gouging people here in Minneapolis for years. I am sure they are covering their costs in this market if not more!
- Dumbledorito, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3Ideas like that are running up against the greedheads who bought their way out of regulation/competition and into the halls of power. If we could give America cheap broadband tomorrow, it would be derailed by every cable and cell phone provider out there trying to swing a sweetheart deal or stop the whole thing rather than innovate new ways to make money via the new infrastructure or offering new services.
- imakeholesinu, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2Congress should act with more scrutiny here. Verizon just closed a deal to purchase Alltel. AT&T says it has the largest 3G network. Comcast is just comcastic.
- RhOrdway, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2Dugg! Please consider taking action!
- bombayterror, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2yeah, what is up with rich folks and golf? I mean, us regular people play golf too but I haven't seen anyone obsess with golf like the C level executives in my company!
- muppett, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2I hate comcast. But I don't have a choice it is them or nothing. I had a choice where I used to live and the competition was great keeping prices down. Not , now. Comcast charges what they want and don't honor a coupon I received. Oh well.
- netneutrality, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1Good news, everyone!
- Canovice, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1We have power equal to these giants if we but use our individual actions and together take back this 'government by the people.'
- momomorrell, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1isn't vzw's costs for fios about 2grand a home?
And that's in an optimal environment....ie, every home along the line purchases....
Fiber to every home is a nice thought, but here in the rural south we don't yet have access to cable tv...About a year ago they started laying lines for dsl....but that's only along the main highway...
Just be a little more realistic. - NSCocoa, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1From: admin@nscocoa.com

Subject: Free for all mobile, cell & outsider phone users!
Dec 21, 2008
Federal Communications Commission
445 12th Street SW
Washington, DC 20554
Dear Communications Commission,
For deaf people just like me due to our "ear puffs" disability
really struggle with our device that require both plans, the
feature and family service from terrible companies since in the
beginning when israel created cell phone and brought the blueprint to
us.
It's near by reaching to the point where all of us with company such as
T-Mobile/AT&T
will begin to disappearing and the only server nationwide which will
switch the channel toward to their freedom idea as explained below:
The iPhone has set the stage for the future of mobile Internet -- but
bad policies allow companies like AT&T to shackle great gadgets to
their closed networks.
To free wireless Internet, the FCC and Congress must use our public
spectrum to create an open network that gives consumers:
1. The freedom to use whatever device we want on any network.
2. The freedom to choose among many providers in a competitive
wholesale marketplace.
3. The freedom to access any content or services we want through our
devices.
These true open access standards should apply to the entire wireless
market.
Sincerely,
Mr. Roman Sabatini - Dumbledorito, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1I have NO clue. The whole catalogue for "years of service" at AT&T/SBC was pretty much nothing but golf accessories.
Had I been more entrepreneurial, I could have made a killing selling second-hand garage sale golf gear out of my cube.
I found two of those old plastic electric golf ball putting gizmos that kick the ball back to you and sent them to my manager at the regional HQ. I heard that they set them up at either end of a hallway and productivity dipped for the next day or so. - CosmicSurfer, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Keep in mind - AT&T and Verizon were the first two telephone companies to allow wiretapping of ALL their customers, without WARRANT and they THEY STILL do MONITOR ALL CALLS
- faheyd, on 01/22/2009, -0/+0COMMUcast, can't trust em.
