NewsOK: Scientology advocates individual examination of spiritual life
newsok.com — This is a pretty good description of Scientology for a newspaper columnist... and scholar. It's not the way I would have written it but it's really not bad. It's nice to see something that doesn't try to make someone's religion 'weird'.

- johnnick, on 10/16/2007, -4/+1Scientology is no wackier than any other religion, and less wacky than some. Of course, that's a very, very low bar, since they all require an element of unsubstantiated belief in the impossible (or at least the very, very highly improbable).
- clamxbaker, on 10/18/2007, -0/+4Comparing the historic religions, to the CORPORATE cult of Scientology is ignorant. Scientology isn't a religion, and they don't ask that you believe in anything, and they don't teach any socially redeeming values. They do however demand your total devotion to their group. Scientology members aren't even told about the "theology" (theology is a stretch to describe Hubbard's sci fi story) that they're following. Only an elite group of indoctrinates followers make it to OT III and learn about the Xenu story. The rest of the flock are debt slaves and they'll probably leave the Co$, or die before they ever reach OT III. $cientology is not a religion. $cientology is probably the biggest pyramid scheme in the history of pyramid schemes.
- clamxbaker, on 10/18/2007, -0/+4I forgot to add that they train their debt slave to be sales people, and that's all they do. Their job is to sell $cientology to more victims or "fresh meat" in Hubbard speak. Everything else in $cientology is just window dressings.

- SgtAl, on 10/16/2007, -1/+6Scientology is not a religion. In order to be a religion they would have to worship something. The only thing the cult of scientology worships is money and power. This is the most danerous money grubbing power mad cult on the face of the planet. The should be treated as such.
- luana1980, on 11/16/2007, -2/+1A newspaper columnist and scholar vs know-it-all Al? Well, that choice is easy.
- dr3kisawesome, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1...through money!
- blizter, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Scientology killed Lisa MacPherson
