New fuel economy standard will be 31.6 mpg
msnbc.msn.com — The nation ’s fleet of new cars and trucks will be required to achieve 31.6 miles per gallon by 2015, the Bush administration said Tuesday. Transportation Department Secretary Mary Peters outlined the plan on Earth Day, setting a schedule that was more aggressive than initially expected by industry officials.

If only people understood that every time they buy something they are casting an economic vote in favor of that product/company, then they would realize that cutting into the pocket books of companies means a hell of a lot more then the government forcefully regulating an industry.
