- horrorpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i sit here late at night and watch the "digg queue"
i dont believe any of us need anything else to keep us up at night
:P - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6i don't care what these drug makers claim, going without sleep too much will make a person a nutcase, REM sleep is required for both good health and sanity...
buried... - dennisraj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm in college, and lets not lie to ourselves, we all know people using add medicine around finals time. With this it would be insane. The only reason you couldn't get your studying done would be if you really did sit up watching the digg queue all night.
- LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Personally I'd like drugs to make sleep more restful rather than delaying it...
- bysin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Modafinil is the new caffeine in the geek community.
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like to sleep naked with my hands down my pants, agreed.
- Powell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That not healthy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I prefer sleeping 9.5-10 hours a day to not sleeping at all. Sleep is good!
- brundlefly76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I use Modfonil (with a doctors prescription) - but I never use it to skip sleep, I use it to enhance wakefulness and attention *while i am awake*.
IMHO it works exactly as claimed - its similar to an amphetatmine without side effects - no high, no dependance, and it doesnt prevent you from falling asleep when you want to.
It does indeed also increase mental focus a great deal - however, you have to be vigilant about what you focus on - for example, it actually made me waste more time on digg, because I would focus on it and get tunnel vision for 6 hours. - DeflatorMouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We already have drugs that let you go two days without sleep: Cocaine, crystal meth, etc...
- puny_midget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any idea where you can get these drugs without prescription?
- cragunr, on 11/16/2009, -0/+0The article claims that Modafinil has "few side effects." I don't care how many it has if "projectile vomiting" or "possession by the son of darkness" is on the list. Right up with those is one that actually applies to this drug: it is probably habit forming. These drugs have a "smoother feel than amphetamines because they work differently." That's right; they work like cocaine: they are dopamine re-uptake inhibitors. Monkeys addicted to cocaine will take Modafinil instead (not over cocaine, of course). At the moment, the benefit of this drug seems to be the low incidence of increased blood pressure and heart rate (compared to amphetamines or meth), but the list of side effects is always shortest for new drugs. Freud was certain that cocaine had no negative side effects and no withdrawal syndrome. Apparently he did not attend that day in elementary school.
