- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -20/+77The State Department made two trips out to investigate? The Times say they love this dog yet dont keep it on a leash. It attackes a bomb sniffing dog and it's handler so it gets shot. How does this warrent 2 investigations? Is there nothing more important in Iraq right now? Bomb Sniffing dogs are trained to be docile, they also tend to be smaller in size. Naming a stray dog doesnt make it any less of a stray. And I've been attacked by a stray while walking my dog, (I have to imagine a stray in a war zone is even more dangerous) if I had had a gun, I would have used it to protect my dog and me too. This story is more proof of how messed up the U.S.'s priorities are.
Did the N.Y. Times cover the fact that this year 60 women in Iraq have been executed by roaming gangs of "morality police"? I wonder if it got as much coverage as the sob-story they are going to make out of "Hentish, the wonder dog." - sundancekid503, on 12/19/2007, -6/+49Who do these guys think they are? Huckabee's sons?

Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs - Frei, on 12/19/2007, -1/+25My name is Indigo Montoya. You killed my dog. Prepare to die
- zachshmack, on 12/19/2007, -6/+29Michael Vick works for Blackwater now?
- Tenlow, on 12/19/2007, -0/+19And the other half graduated high school. Imagine that.
- TheHydrogens, on 12/19/2007, -1/+20Tee hee! You made an alliteration about people with different political ideologies! You are so clever and smart and right about everything ever!
- Insightful, on 12/19/2007, -3/+18Perhaps you do not know what treason means. Perhaps you like to get your news only from the official state source like the Pravda or KCNA. You would make a perfect communist.
- Steevo7, on 12/19/2007, -18/+33Why wasn't the headline "Dog shot interfering with security"
- MicrosoftBob, on 12/19/2007, -2/+16Not everyone requires a pit bull or rottie to feel adequately male and secure.
- pintomp3, on 12/19/2007, -4/+17why you shoot my dog? you know damn right!
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -1/+12You're a disgrace to that name.
- DiggasWAttitude, on 12/19/2007, -2/+13Just out of curiousity, where do you get your news from Iraq? What news source do you think gets out of the Green Zone and really reports on what is going on?
- Tenlow, on 12/19/2007, -2/+12Blackwater is not there to keep the people of Iraq safe. They are there to keep the rich or important people of the united states safe while visiting iraq.
- synthpop, on 12/19/2007, -0/+9at least they didn't rape the dog first
- halavais, on 12/19/2007, -1/+10My God, you really are an idiot.
Pravda printed only the propaganda the government released and allowed them to. The press in a democracy has the obligation to uncover the truth, and act as a watchdog so that the voters know what their elected government is really doing, not just what they say they are doing. Actually, the NY Times did a piss-poor job of that in the run-up to the Iraq invasion, failing to uncover good sources of information--a failure they have apologized for.
Accepting government reports and information unskeptically is un-American, and a sign of a poor citizen. - mablco, on 12/19/2007, -7/+15while i agree with your frustration towards the govt wasting time and money on somethig that is, in comparison to what needs to be done, small, however this story is more about the continued abuse of power and lawlessness of blackwater. they would shoot your dog too. they think they are above everything.
- Navicerts, on 12/19/2007, -0/+8What the hell are you talking about? "whiny leftist pseudointellectual propaganda artists" < who the hell is that? Do you have some reason to believe that Peter Graff or Robert Woodward are "propaganda artists" or are you just blowing some spoof article WAY out of proportion?
You come off as a lunatic. - JDRay, on 12/19/2007, -2/+8Blackwater should check with Mike Huckabee. He can probably help them out of this jam.
- 89992, on 12/19/2007, -1/+7So many people saying "you should be concerned about humans and not animals". This is completely ludicrous. There is absolutely no reason why one can't be concerned about both. Concern for humans and concerns for animals are NOT mutually exclusive. If you think they are, you are a fool.
- EnergyEinstein, on 12/19/2007, -4/+10"Blackwater spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell said the dog had attacked one of Blackwater's bomb-sniffer dogs while a security team was sweeping the compound for explosives.
"The K-9 handler made several unsuccessful attempts to get the dog to retreat, including placing himself between the dogs. When those efforts failed, the K-9 handler unfortunately was forced to use a pistol to protect the company's K-9 and himself," she said in an e-mail to Reuters."
Those two paragraphs conflict a bit. If the dog had attacked one of their bomb-sniffing dogs, and it was that urgent and severe then the handler woudln't of had time to make "several" attempts to block him from his dogs - and "to protect himself?" - *****, if he felt confident enough to just put himself inbetween the two dogs (and several times) then he wasn't worried for his own safety to need to protect himself. And by the way, yelling at a dog or even just kicking it is still bad but for defense purposes is still warranted over taking a gun and shooting it - Excessive force galore.. - objectcode, on 12/19/2007, -1/+7*****
- KennMac, on 12/19/2007, -0/+6And there to get rich themselves in the process while doing what they love; Firing automatic weapons in a limitless environment.

"The firm's [Blackwater's] role became a serious issue in Iraqi-U.S. relations when its guards opened fire on a Baghdad street in September, killing 17 people." - sgglynn, on 12/19/2007, -0/+5Blackwater trying to keep Iraq safe? Just like they tried to keep Americans safe in New Orleans right?
- nicholai, on 12/19/2007, -1/+6That's because they are mostly neocons. Neocons think big government is ok as long as it is used to repress people. This is why neocons support programs like the "war on drugs" and "war on terror".
- cuoops, on 12/19/2007, -0/+5I wouldn't even get close to a dog or cat in Iraq(or anywhere in the Middle East). They've had a problem with rabies and hydatid even before the invasion. It's a lot worse now.
- Picer, on 12/19/2007, -3/+8Blackwater kills a dog and get investigate, what about the the hundreds killed by blackwater? their families are going to be so pro-american arent they...
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4Exactly... that's why I have a big fat dachshund.

- dgendreau, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5And dont forget Treasonous. They seem to be using that one a lot too. Must be the new words in this week's talking-point memos.
- arjie, on 12/19/2007, -2/+6Maybe he should try Al-Jazeera.
- ErrorS, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5Do you guys wonder why the youth in this country are growing up hating Republicans? For God's sake, your comment goes against everything this country is about.. No wonder there is this sudden rise in the number of libertarians, you ***** people HATE freedom, don't you? Someone disagrees with you and you wish death on them? I don't know if you realize it, a lot of people love fiscal conservatism, it's THIS kind of ***** that turns them away from the Republican party.
If you people didn't act like this, there would be a lot more Republicans in this country.
It's like you people are trying to kill your party. Sure, people are unhappy with Democrats.. but you see where the conservative vote from our youth is going, right? The potential Republicans of the future? The ones that would have loved Reagan and Nixon? They're voting Libertarian.. you get low taxes and small government involvement, but you also get intelligent people that aren't hellbent on silencing anyone that gets in their way.
I'm fine with it.. as a Democrat, I welcome the death of the Republican party (not real death to those of you that are a bit slow) .. so I guess I should ask you to keep it up, each post you make turns one more fiscally conservative voter towards libertarian (in view) candidates. - Sinten, on 12/19/2007, -4/+8how comically evil
seriously, ***** blackwater - quaxon, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5seriously, and yet there is no official investigations into the gang rape of that one broad by kbr employees and congress is arguing over whether christmas should be recognized as the best holiday EVAR and steroids instead of any real issues. ***** hell our country is ***** up/sucks ass.
- DangerCollie, on 12/19/2007, -3/+7What? The bomb guy was there by himself? Why didn't one of the others leash the dog for five minutes and finish the sweep? Or would that have involved climbing out of the air conditioned cab?
It's either that or you're going to have to convince me a Blackwater advance team couldn't manage a single dog.
I think they managed that situation the same way Blackwater manages everything else: Shoot first, make categorical denials later. Pathetic organization that's a sad testimony to the administration that hired them and the nation that tolerates them. - Tenlow, on 12/19/2007, -2/+6Did you guys get a memo to use the word "frivolous" today? Almost every negative comment on this story has that word in it so far.
- URnotheonly1, on 12/19/2007, -1/+4Have to break out Kerpal - You KICKED my DOG!!
http://www.bootstrike.com/LaughterHell/Featured/ki ... - nospinhere, on 12/19/2007, -5/+8What the ***** is the NYTs doing with a dog in Iraq?
- blacklouis, on 12/19/2007, -6/+9Shame on every citizen of the United States (including myself) for allowing our government to use mercenaries. I don't think the average citizen realizes what is going on in Iraq. Armed corporations are running wild in Iraq doing whatever the ***** they want while we just sit around pacified by Myspace, Fantasy Football or some other ***** distraction. WAKE THE ***** UP... the alarm is sounding. don't be late.

- bjs3171, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3because when a dog is "interfering" you PUT A ***** LEASH ON IT, NOT SHOOT IT. it wasn't a lion, it was a dog.
- sickrubik, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3LOUD NOISES
- pintomp3, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3it's sad that this seems to be getting more coverage than the dozens of PEOPLE blackwater has shot.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3YOU DICKS WANNA KEEP IT DOWN? I WAS TRYING TO TAKE A NAP AT MY DESK BUT YOU ALL MUST THINK SHOUTING AND SLEEP DEPRIVATION IS FUNNY.
- mrjit, on 12/19/2007, -2/+5You've apparently not been to Iraq. There are stray dogs everywhere, and many have attacked, or attempted to attack soldiers.
- jcani, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3as far as you know...
- nicholai, on 12/19/2007, -1/+4We should be suing the government for wasting our money.
