- flaknugget, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3Probably not.
But America may become a better place after the grown-ups begin leading it again. - DaveDaveson, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2The stock market shooting up and down is hardly an indication of anything. Markets usually go down after an election because they don't know who the next treasure Secretary is etc, and during a period of economic turbulence any movement is extreme. I'm going to bet you that world markets are going to shoot UP and down for good few months and would have done similar no matter who won.
- Blasphemous88, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2I think that people see him as a man who has dignity and class. And although he hasn't taken office yet, the relief that we're finally going to have a man of class in the office again is what's driving the happiness surrounding his election. The global response to this is so positive because they've witnessed what happens when we elect bad presidents. The fact that he made stops around the world during his campaign shows a lot too. He's not in it just to win the election, he's in it to improve the country and a great way to do it is to acknowledge the needs of the world even before being elected.
It makes a big difference in these other country's opinions when a man who isn't even elected yet comes to their country and shows humility and attentiveness to their needs as well. This all directs back to my first point though; he has class, and that alone is our first change. - vendeta912, on 11/05/2008, -2/+4Exsqueeze me? Landslide? Way to go Obama. First election I participated in and Im happy about the turn out
- iridesce, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1Hopefully, we have learned not to " fight on every front " and meet the challenges with options that include but are not limited to armed confrontation. Obama does seem to have that understanding.
- Fordi, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1Yeah. Let's hope Bush doesn't ***** it up by attacking Iran.
- Trekhawk, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1From today's WSJ:
"It was the Dow's worst percentage decline ever on the day after a presidential election, surpassing the 4.5% drop on the day after Franklin Roosevelt's first election in 1932." - Fordi, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1Hm. Roosevelt presided over the recovery of the US economy. Roosevelt's drop wasn't much compared to the fall leading up to his election, nor did Obama's count much compared to the fall leading up to Nov 4 this year.
Could it be that speculators are scared ***** that the new president is going to apply some ***** principles to Wall Street? - Zippo, on 11/06/2008, -1/+1He is still African American... it doesn't matter if his mother was white.
- TubbyCat, on 11/06/2008, -2/+1US Electrons 2008 catagory, please.
- AnotherDiggGuy, on 11/06/2008, -3/+1Yes, maybe the whole world will live in peace & harmony now.
- Trekhawk, on 11/05/2008, -8/+2And stock market reacts by plummeting 486 points.
And he's not African-American, christ. His Mom was white. He's inter-racial. - 0dnj0, on 11/06/2008, -9/+2a "new world order" huh? I'm sure he will full fill his cousin g.w.bush's plans and continue on with taking away all of our freedoms
