- orb_nsc, on 04/16/2008, -9/+13Looks like an impressive facility (some better sources than this actually had some photos). It'll be a shame when we have to hastily evacuate it when Iraq goes completely to ***** HELL. No matter how long our troops stay there, I think it's inevitable that that WILL happen.
- s6t9eve, on 04/16/2008, -13/+5Because you are a military analyst and can really tell what is going to happen in the future of iraq.... or not.
- mal1964, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5You are probably right, But no matter what part of the world its in, A Country starting a new system or a developing Country will have its conflicts and problems . That's life with just about anything starting out.
- sporg, on 04/16/2008, -7/+10"A country starting a new system...will have its conflicts and problems"
Yes that tends to happen after you remove the government disband the military and police forces and bomb the infrastructure into rubble. Especially when the country has several rival religious and ethnic groups who despise each other. I'm sure once the president gives another one of his patriotic speeches about bringing peace and democracy to the region the Iraqis will all throw down their weapons and join hands to sing cumbya..... annny day now.......- mal1964, on 04/16/2008, -3/+6Well why don't you run for President, Sounds like you know how the world works.
PS, I'm a optimist and I see no reason to get so angry on digg especially when I have no idea who you are. So your little spat sounded good and might make you feel good, But its just you ranting on digg and it does absolutely nothing for nobody besides you.- sporg, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Im not angry I am simply stating the facts in my usual smug manner.
If you truly believe that a dreamy western style democracy is going to spring up in Iraq you are deluding yourself and possibly watching to much Faux News. My comment pissed you off because my ugly facts conflict with your internal rhetoric and apparently you could not come up with another dismissive gloss over on short notice. Call up Bush's speech writer maybe he can help you figure something out.- mal1964, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1Ok, You have a great day! Peace
- sporg, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Im not angry I am simply stating the facts in my usual smug manner.
- nospinhere, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5Infrastruction wasn't bombed to rubble.
- mal1964, on 04/16/2008, -3/+6Well why don't you run for President, Sounds like you know how the world works.
- ghm101, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4Unlike Saigon, at least this one has a big roof that should allow the last choppers out a dignified takeoff.
- rmxz, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2"It'll be a shame when we have to hastily evacuate it when Iraq goes completely to ***** HELL. No matter how long our troops stay there, I think it's inevitable that that WILL happen."
We'll leave it when the oil dries up. Till then, we'll stay even if it costs trillions more.
- nickcozy, on 04/16/2008, -14/+10Soon will be blown up.
- david76, on 04/16/2008, -4/+41Nope. No long term strategic interests here. Move along.
- serif69, on 04/16/2008, -4/+6Because the US doesn't have any embassies anywhere in the world besides Iraq...
- geddon, on 04/16/2008, -3/+6We're building $740M embassies all over the world? Explain to me how Democrats waste money again.. Oh, wait: They waste money on OUR OWN CITIZENS -- as opposed to building $740M embassies in every corner of the globe.
- david76, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1We do have embassies all over the world. But they're not all massive 27 building complexes.
- pitlord, on 04/16/2008, -4/+1Can you imagine how insulted the Iraqi people would be if we DIDN'T build an embassy there?
-_-
Dumbass!
- serif69, on 04/16/2008, -4/+6Because the US doesn't have any embassies anywhere in the world besides Iraq...
- alanr19, on 04/16/2008, -3/+14What do they need 27 buildings there for?
- govsucks, on 04/16/2008, -11/+6For fat ass government politicians to sit around and talk of course. Wait until you see how many buildings the Universal Health Care department will "need".
- Zippo, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1About as many as any other country's healthcare department... about the same (or less) as the US already has for it's Department of Health.
- dsmx, on 04/16/2008, -3/+8Planning and co-ordination of the invasion of all middle east countries to secure their oil needs a lot of buildings.
- govsucks, on 04/16/2008, -11/+6For fat ass government politicians to sit around and talk of course. Wait until you see how many buildings the Universal Health Care department will "need".
- freakofwar, on 04/16/2008, -9/+10$740 million! - no wonder this country is in a recession!
- blake10, on 04/16/2008, -1/+6That's how we roll.
- Marijuana, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5Freal, we don't give a *****. America still has it's battle scars from recessions.
- o0joshua0o, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2According to what I heard on Fox News, spending billions of dollars on Iraq has no effect on our domestic economy. No effect at all...
- orangefly, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1in fact it helps it....according to fox....
- Zippo, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1$740 million is nothing compared to the cost of the war itself, which is over $500 billion.
- geddon, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1Drive your Nova like it's stolen -- GO COMMIE GO!!!
- robthom, on 04/16/2008, -4/+19Mission accomplished.
- LeeSoong, on 04/16/2008, -3/+3The tourist 'View Iraq' tour bus leaves every morning at 10 AM after a light breakfast . . .
- orangefly, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1i'd rather drink turpentine and piss on a brush fire....i ain't touchin it....
- Harbinger67, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2*Light breakfast contains soy, Iraqi hopes and dreams, and was processed on machinery that also processes peanuts.
- EpicSelekta, on 04/16/2008, -3/+25Six months late is alright by me... at least they had a schedule! You know, unlike the occupation?
- ElAssoWipo, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5The glass is half crazy type of thing.
- chr0nic21, on 04/16/2008, -3/+0The just got shock and awed...
- govsucks, on 04/16/2008, -3/+4What is really ***** up is that anyone even thought for a nano second that government would complete a task on time or within budget.
- FREETHINKER2008, on 04/16/2008, -3/+10Anyone still believe we are leaving Iraq anytime soon?
- thebaron2, on 04/16/2008, -2/+1I don't think anyone has even made that claim, from either political party, at any time in the recent past - at least not anyone that was in the presidential race.
- JoeVet, on 04/16/2008, -5/+8Al-Sadr will enjoy living there once he becomes the new dictator of Iraq and forces the Americans out. Anyone with any sense knows that he is running the country and he wants us gone. All this nonsense about Al Qaeda in Iraq is code for the Mahdi Army. We are not fighting A Qaeda we are fighting Iraqis who want the foreign occupiers gone..
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 04/16/2008, -0/+7Sadr can't even set foot in Iraq without having about 5 Predatorss circle him non-stop. That's why he's cowering in Iran.
- pitlord, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4You are pathetic, the Mahdi army was quickly trounced by Iraq's own militia with a little support from the U.S.
- sporg, on 04/16/2008, -2/+2Now if they could just reduce the mortar fire rained onto the compound daily. Probably should have built the entire thing underground.
- JasonCox, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1Is it just me or does that place look more secure than Supermax?
- barroni, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1Six months late not like the mob runs the union in Iraq or do they
- yngtimmy, on 04/16/2008, -0/+9only 6 months? Hey for government work, thats pretty good!
- H4cksaw, on 04/16/2008, -2/+0I give it six months before some nutjob decides it'd be a good idea to blow it up.
- stonklit, on 04/16/2008, -3/+1LOL, yeah, build an embassy in the middle of a ***** warzone.
These people aren't very smart at all, good god.
I give it 2 weeks before it's blown up :)- settlesdown, on 04/16/2008, -0/+0wrong. you can't get close enough to blow it up. These reg http://www.wbdg.org/ccb/DOD/UFC/ufc_4_010_01.pdf are also why it costs $700 mil+ to build the thing. Well, that and its not like there's a Home Depot around the ***** corner. While they might not be smart you are ignorant which is worse since its fixable.
- chrisk9, on 04/16/2008, -4/+6Hmmm... 27-building complex. Almost seems like the U.S. is there to stay....
- Egoist, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5We have embassies in nearly every other country. Why would Iraq be excluded?
- o0joshua0o, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1Does this mean Baghdad will be the new hotspot for American tourists soon? I can't wait to see the commercials.
- mousky, on 04/16/2008, -3/+4So you replaced Saddam's complex with an American complex. I'm sure the Iraqis will embrace imperialism.
- cuoops, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1images - http://eyeball-series.org/usemb-iq/usemb-iq.htm
- thedarkrabbit, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3That's no embassy... that's a space station.
- KodomoNoJikan, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Hey at least it is pretty!
here it is on google maps:
http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=33 ... - amightywind, on 04/16/2008, -4/+4Wow. A 'six month late' building project in a war zone. Late relative to what? Some no mind' democrat's project schedule?
- markgl, on 04/16/2008, -2/+4It's an embassy people. We have one in alot of countries. Hello.
- endustry, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1I think the issue here is scale. I doubt the embassy in Turkey requires 27 buildings.
- serif69, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Turkey may not, but we have 23 embassies or consular agencies in Mexico
- MisterWonderful, on 04/16/2008, -3/+2Are you that ***** daft?
Wait, I just read some more of you comments. You ARE that daft. Go back to your blackberry fatboy.- markgl, on 04/18/2008, -2/+1wow thank you for your wonderful comment. I love that you can't make a point without using a foul mouth. You have my respect and I fully have changed my views on life from your kind words.
- huertanix, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Its the size of the fraking Vatican
- endustry, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1I think the issue here is scale. I doubt the embassy in Turkey requires 27 buildings.
- Zippo, on 04/16/2008, -4/+4So, the US made up a story about WMDs (that didn't exist), invaded and conquered a stable country, making it completely war-torn and unstable, destroyed countless buildings (including hospitals, schools, etc), and then they build a gigantic fortress for their own people. Not to mention the countless civilians killed by Americans.
Oh yeah, they must *love* the US. Mission Accomplished, indeed. - Exhibitionist, on 04/16/2008, -3/+2The anti-occupation resistance fighters must be licking their chops at the idea of bombing the ***** out of the new American base, ahem, embassy.
- solid12345, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1The anti-occupation "resistance" are too busy bombing Sunni or Shia neighborhoods than to worry about US troops.
- SirDomino, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I applied for an IT job there, but it seems they are interviewing nearly 60 applicants, and most of them are retired military that have disability preferences. Oh well.
- Look4Truth, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2And if any of you think that by just electing a Democrat that they'll be leaving, think again.
- inajeep, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3It terms of Government/Military work, 6 months late is actually 3 years early. It's huge and expensive and gonna be a target for the next 100 years.
- insanebrain, on 04/16/2008, -4/+21. fake terrorist attack [check]
2. invade country [check]
3. call it a 'liberation' [check]
4. steal everything you can [check]
5. build permanent bases [check]
6. leave. . .[will never happen]
Everybody who is talking about the troops leaving iraq. .. please wake up. It took the GOP years of planning to get this far. They will never leave. It was never the intention to leave. - notahack, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4Iraq is the 21st century Philippines. Get use to it folks.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4Dugg for referencing the correct "Iraqi is just like Insurgency X" analogy.
- tsotha, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Oh my God. An intelligent comment on Digg. I'm not sure my heart can take this.
- thedarkrabbit, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3I'm glad we built a mega-huge Embassy... and not the schools, homes and hospitals the country really needs...
- Mardala, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3Something about this makes me feel ashamed.
- pitlord, on 04/16/2008, -3/+2Wow, only 6 months late? Now, we need to get these guys working on the border fence.
(8^D
Man, you libtards are idiots. I'd like to see YOU build a multi function facility like this, in a war zone, only 6 months over schedule.
-_-- meechwings, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Wouldn't it have been smarter to build the fence first? Or, hey, even better - not gone in at all, or at least with a lot more help?

there, I fixed the title. - ccarruth, on 04/16/2008, -1/+0Six months late huh? OMFG!!! That's not at all like large scale construction projects...
- huertanix, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Ron Paul, in Iowa, was once asked what he'd do with the new embassy. He said that he would donate the facility to an organization like the Red Cross, or the Red Crescent, in this case.
- rxbudian, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Awesome... it's done in 6 months... so how much did it cost? how come Hurricane Katrina victims aren't getting as fast a service as the Iraqis got?
