- IronKurton, on 10/11/2007, -7/+100It's interesting that many people who view these images will have reactions like "Look at their eyes. They are filled with evil." I had the same reaction.
But if you were shown these pictures without any description (and let's assume you couldn't identify the uniforms), I would think that these people are just some soldiers who are having a good time at some military boot camp or something.
That's when it struck me: these soldiers really believed that they were doing nothing wrong. Remember that the Jews were animals to them. They had the same feelings of killing a Jew (and some other "degenerate" minorities) as a normal person would of killing a cow or a rat (think medical experiments). You know, for the Good of Humanity. Therefore, killing these people in such horrible ways was not only their duty, but also the foundation to their belief that they were helping humanity.
This is what really shakes me about these images. - Armor1901, on 10/10/2007, -19/+91Can you ***** people not turn this into another damn anti Bush/Jew/***** else rant? I know this is Digg, but come on. Don't hijack the posting, just check out the pictures, chit chat, and go post somewhere where the topic is the Middle East.
- dagnabbit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+69View the photos directly here - http://www.ushmm.org/research/collections/highligh ...
- datastorageguy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+41"Hans did you happen to notice what is on our caps?"
"No.."
"They've got skulls on them."
"Yeah..so?"
"Hans....are we the baddies?" - christoast, on 09/04/2008, -1/+40Don't you just love human beings?
- hollowex, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35It's interesting that on photo 104 the caption given is "burrying our SS comrades from a terror attack" the term terror attack struck me odd. It's clearly an auto-propagandized view considering it was an allied bombing raid.
- hailxkill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29I'm sure that if you had met anyone in these pictures, they would have been very personable, enjoyable people. I don't look into their eyes and say, "Those are evil people." I see them as a people led. Just like we all are. And tragically enough, I would not be the least bit surprised if I saw another event like the Holocaust occur in my lifetime.
- rolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Um, to them it was a terror attack.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -10/+30what israel is doing to palestinians is wrong, but they aren't stuffing them into ovens and gas chambers. also, it's not all jews, it's the zionists (both jewish and christian) who are supporting the suffering. please don't paint all jews with the same stroke, there are many in israel who want to end the aparthied and occupation. take the director of arna's children for example. also, it wasn't just jews who died in the holocaust even though that's all anyone seems to remember. hilter killed millions of soviets, homosexuals, gypsies, and many others.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+27neonazi digg user says, "pics or the holocaust never happened"
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -10/+28why? to prove that he's right about the holocaust being milked for decades for political purposes?
- MrEguy, on 10/10/2007, -15/+33Never forget, lest it shall happen again.
- Armor1901, on 10/10/2007, -11/+28Flogistan, you're a ***** *****. Don't trivialize the holocaust by saying the same ***** is going on now. It's not. Hopefully it never will again.
- ahuxley, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16The Germans saw allied bombing as terror.
Bombenterror
also partisans and resistance movements. - manicleek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Whilst most of his statement is utter *****, the Russians did actually do more to bring down Hitler. Starting with the stand they made at Stalingrad which prevented the Germans gaining access to unlimited amounts of oil. The reason the D-Day landings an the following push through Europe was so successful was because the Germans had no fuel to bring in re-inforcments.
We in the west don't really get taught the full impact of Russian involvment though because of the cold war - dalittle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14This was not the only bad thing to happen in the world. There should also be stories on Stalin's oppression of his own people, the Camir Rouge in Cambodia, the Genocide in Angola. Lots and lots of these thing have happened and all of them should be brought up together when discussing intolerance and bad governments.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20arab holocaust is going a bit far. occupation and apartheid, yes. human rights violations, yes. even high jacking of US foreign policy i'll give you. they are brutal and will kill anyone who stands in their way, but they aren't out to exterminate all arabs.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -16/+30Uh, no. The problem is that if you compare the real Holocaust to Israel's actions, you really ARE an anti-semitic prick, especially in a topic that is not about Israel at all.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -9/+22just like he never said israel should be bombed off the map, he never said the holocaust never happened. he said the zionist regime will fade away (he's not the first to call for regime change) and he said the memory of the holocaust is used to commit further injustices for political ends.
- pudgyv, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13You are doing a far better job of assassinating your character than I could ever do.
- theblueprint, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I was an exchange student in Germany, and I visited Dachau.
Let me assure you... it was absolutely a factory designed expressly for murdering people. The ovens had people-shaped openings. There were stretchers that went into the ovens, and they were shaped to ensure the limbs did not catch on the oven opening.
It's the most horrible thing I've ever seen in my 29 years. It still makes me sick to think about it today. - grammarpolice, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Found this slideshow with audio narrative.
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2007/09/18/arts ... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10It may be because the Holocaust happened in the developed world. It's less shocking that people who live in grass huts are savages. I'm not trying to trivialize what's going on in Africa but that's my take on it..
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -11/+20If you're trying to compare Iraq to the Holocaust, you're deluded beyond help. Damn, I can't believe how this Digg article has brought out the absolute worst uneducated and ignorant trolls.
- rolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Those are a popular misconceptions. There is no real evidence Hitler had any jewish blood, more like casual rumors/speculation. Also, his ideal were "aryans" but that did not always mean "blond, blue eyed" but basically northern Germanic - which had brunettes, redheads, and others. As you saw in the photo album, the SS, supposed to be pure blood to get in, was hardly all blonde hair, blue eyed.
Also, he had blue eyes.
The holocaust was a horrible tragedy, but without regard for the truth, how can anybody learn from history if all types of ***** is spouted in its place. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11And all white americans are slave owners!
- IronKurton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I agree with you. Part of the point in my post was that we are often quick to judge -- I know I was, and I caught myself (this time). It's not something I'm proud of, and it makes me wonder how many times have I (and everyone else) judged like this?
Still, I would like to believe that despite being a people led, we should have limits on right and wrong. For example, you could be led to believe that stealing a piece of bread because you are hungry is justified. It's a little harder to swallow that brutal killings of many human beings can be justified. I'm not saying that I don't believe that these were people-led -- I am just curious about the thought process that went through these soldiers' minds.
My grandfather was in a concentration camp. He escaped with the help of a girl that was working there. So, obviously, there are some people who were not led, or who, at the very least, believed that what they were doing was wrong, but were forced to do it by someone whom they saw as an authority figure. - pudgyv, on 10/10/2007, -8/+16Would you rather be a Jew living in an Cairo or an Arab living in Tel Aviv?
- pudgyv, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12You, sir, are a ***** idiot.
- dkreifus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9As for what happened to those 11 million people. The 6 million Jews all make a left turn at Budapest, and got lost. The 5 million others are actually living in Atlantis, hiding out.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13Quite the find. It's linked to in the "multimedia" box in the article.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13You're ***** retarded and may be one of the most full-of-***** posters I've ever seen here (after the truthers). First off, the non-Jews were a disparate group. The Jews were a plurality, if you want to nitpick, and a huge one at that. Huge percentages (more than half most of the time) of European Jews were slaughtered. Second, you're simply wrong about the SU finding little evidence of those millions of deaths. No historian or college-educated person with a background in history worth his salt doubts the numbers who died.
I like how you choose to leave out the US influence on freeing Europe, by the way. Why the ***** do you think there was an East and a West to Germany and Europe after the war? And do you know which side was better off? - LucidHawk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Explain you reasoning please, I've never heard anyone claim Buddhism as "horrible'.
Most sects belief systems promote self-discipline and care for others that's just about the sum of it. - epicstruggle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Here you go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_surroun ... - tuxerware, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11I'm not to happy with Israels treatment of the Palestinians, but there is NO comparison of that to the Holocaust! You sir are a sic bastard!
- ryuujinusa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Who's to say ALL those officers and families were hateful anti-semitics. I for one would be damn scared of the secret police killing me if I didn't do what was ordered. Their choices: Russian front, or "easy" life at this camp. Yes, they knew it was bad but, I'm certain most of you would choose this instead of a horrible death at a front line. This narrator makes it seem like ALL those people were hateful anti-semitics when most were just brain-washed normal people. As a German I feel this misrepresents the truth, clearly the blame cannot be put on these mere Auschwitz workers. The true blame goes to Hitler and his henchmen.
- IronKurton, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Make no mistake about it. This sort of thing happens all the time. It happened on 9/11, in Vietnam, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Iraq, Afghanistan, all over the world.
The point is that by decreasing the value of one human being by some means -- usually by depriving them of necessities, like toilets, beds, and food -- it is easier to cope with the fact that one is actually killing or torturing a human being. What is worse, this desensitizing still happens to this day. - catalysis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6What an insult to people who were actually in Nazi death camps.
- sigginike90, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Everyone here thinks they are better than the nazis... why?...
How about stop focusing on the past and think about what is happening around you. You all apparently fail to notice the crimes that are happening right now. You speak like you are somehow wiser or better than they were. You aren't. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Well, you have been defeated. How can you NOT understand what she meant when she said that "you realize that these were people"?
- trzynascie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8You've just proved that You know nothing about history. Please show us sources which could prove that there was no wire fences, gas poisoning and other stuff that "we see in the movies".
- duddles, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Doesn't sound so painful for the guy whose scrapbook it was:
He was convicted of war crimes and served seven years before his release in 1970, after which he was rehired by the bank. Höcker died in 2000 at 89. - hollowex, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10much like every soldier.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I can't believe he said that Buddhism is a horrible belief system. Maybe weird to us in America, but certainly not bad at all. I'd much rather people become Buddhists than, say, Muslims.
- dkreifus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Oh. You nailed it down. It's a big conspiracy. Its a fake event in history, created by the Jews so they could earn sympathy from the world. Then, they would use that sympathy to put George W Bush into office, 50 years later. Then, they could have the US military backing to wipe out all the Arab Nations. Actually, this plan dates back to Moses. Its actually wirtten on the back of the slabs that contain the 10 commandments. Oh, and Jews also created the first boot sector virus, so they could take down the computers of the world, and control all the money.

Photos of the crematorium:

Click on "Further Information" and you'll see photos of the ovens I described in my previous comment. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Think about how you feel toward Nazis. That's how they felt about Jews. Half the comments on this story are about wanting to murder the people in these photos.
- IronKurton, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8To anyone that's interested: I found an interesting (free) online book that discusses the psychology of concentration camp soldiers.
http://www.questia.com/PM.qst?a=o&d=103206146#
I haven't read it yet, so all the standard disclaimers apply... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Ahmadinejad is for open debate and investigation on the holocaust. And since there are people in prison for stating things that are now common knowledge (no soap, no lamps, 1.5m at Auschwitz rather than 4m), I think that might be a good idea. There were anti-Zionist Jews at the holocaust conference in Iran because they don't like Zionists abuse of this part of history either.
