- jonw, on 06/22/2009, -3/+137"we are not allowed to hold any gatherings to remember Neda" - Last thing they want is a symbol. Disgusting!
- woodsjransom, on 06/23/2009, -5/+85Nothing and I do mean nothing is going to erase the image of Neda dying, I was interested and sympathetic, but when I saw her die like that it did something to me. I support them. I will never forget what I saw, it will stay with me forever. The Iranian government needs to do the right thing. The very thing they were afraid of happening has happened and it is a done deal. The world saw that young girl die. TOO LATE!!!
- elhaf, on 06/22/2009, -5/+60Those Mullahs screwed up big-time. If they had let the proper election occur, they would have at least remained in power. As it is the establishment is on its way out. No more puppet president for them.
- joshthegreat200, on 06/23/2009, -4/+46This woman's face is going to be in the history books. Her grave site is going to be famous and she will never be forgotten.
also, ***** THE BASIJ MILITIA. Mother *****. - gcnaddict, on 06/23/2009, -2/+41These killings are leading to a vicious cycle which might eventually topple the current regime. The way Shi'ite mourning works is via commemorations 3, 7, and 40 days after death. These commemorations for people who were martyred (legitimate usage of the word applies in this case) typically result in more deaths, which result in more protests honoring the martyrs, which results in more deaths, etc. until the protests become too large to handle.
The Iranian government is trying to block her death from being used as a symbol of the movement because they realize this process. I hope the citizens of Iran realize that it's their time to stand up to the crap and not let the government impede their way to freedom. - inactive, on 06/23/2009, -3/+42Photo of Neda's grave appears on twitpic:

Her friends & family talk about the life that was extinguished too soon:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonbeyond/2009 ... - inactive, on 06/23/2009, -3/+40Is it hard to see, with your head so far up your ass?
- maz2331, on 06/23/2009, -3/+38Too late to stop the symbol. They created a near-perfect martyr who shows just how evil the ruling theocracy is.
- devans00, on 06/22/2009, -3/+29That is such a disgrace to not even let her family have her body. In a twisted way, it's good that all the election protesters will be buried together. Only one place to visit will the area more of a destination for those who want to pay their respects in the future.
- Loki101, on 06/23/2009, -7/+32Am I the only one who thinks that there has been a sudden surge in the number of faceless drones belittling and besmirching these protests? Previous comments were more cynical and sarcastic, but it seems to me that a surprising number right now are simply trying to browbeat their way into the conversation.
I didn't know so many Basij were literate, let alone able to tell a keyboard from a piano. - Soniti, on 06/23/2009, -1/+23What the ***** is wrong with you?
- Khiva, on 06/23/2009, -0/+19Neda is the Tank Man of Iran '09.
- MisterMajusty, on 06/23/2009, -1/+19My first guess would be a lot.
- SomeDrunk, on 06/23/2009, -1/+19Yeah, I noticed that too. Seems some of them joined just after the protest started.
- Ymeg, on 06/23/2009, -4/+22You are a sad person. How you can completely dismiss the struggles of the oppressed is beyond me.
- dn11, on 06/23/2009, -1/+19LOL.... some comments are just head shakers. there isn't really any valid response I can make here. Assuming that was a serious comment, and assuming you a really a "Christian/conservative" as you describe yourself - I'm sure you're right - Jesus would advocate nuclear war randomly as well. The best way to fight tyranny is random genocide, I'm pretty sure that was in the gospels somewhere.
- dixta, on 06/23/2009, -1/+17LOL!
Look out! Another ***** troll has nothing better to do than sit on Digg and aggravate people because he's too much of a loser to find anything better to do. - wakethefockup, on 06/23/2009, -2/+18They wouldn't allow a proper memorial service... well, her memorial service will be ending their regime, how about that?
Ahmadinejad=bush, nothing but an embarrassment to his country, only speaking for the backwoods war mongers, not for the real citizens. - fuse13, on 06/23/2009, -3/+17You apparently have such little regard for the Iranian people that you cant understand this is their will.
- Loki101, on 06/23/2009, -0/+14Or maybe you suppressed her vote?
- gdo01, on 06/23/2009, -2/+15Well she happened to be the only person to be taped dying painfully in front of a camera as people desperately tried to keep her alive.
No, I guess it was all because she was pretty.
/s - Bloodwine, on 06/23/2009, -4/+17Right or wrong, it's pretty effective to have a single icon to rally behind. It adds a human face to the whole event for many people who usually don't care about such things.
I don't think people care about the other deaths any less, but this one was captured on video and a fleet of dump trucks carried the video throughout all the various internet tubes for all of us to see.
I seriously think there are some jackasses on the internet who will complain about anything. - dn11, on 06/23/2009, -1/+14I hope you're joking. RTFA. innocent bystander - not someone leading a riot or looting a store. anyway, what good is voting if the votes are counted?
- brakes4turtles, on 06/23/2009, -3/+15Many Iranians will die as will the Islamic Republic. For centuries we will be asking "what if?" when talking about the Supreme Leader's decision to allow the rigged results to stand.
- ShingoEX, on 06/23/2009, -0/+12"I like how everyone is getting on this bandwagon that she was a symbol of freedom... that she risked her life to protest an oppressive regime."
Actually, she seemed more of a face of the innocents who were caught up in this mindlessness. - anthropodeus, on 06/23/2009, -2/+14troll troll is troll
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -4/+14Greed and power seized by madness and the insane. To harm someone so beautiful so you can remain in power. Its a cold ugly world sometimes.
- ZenMojo, on 06/23/2009, -2/+12She was shot in cold blood, but what seems to be a prevailing theme is the sudden spontaneous mythologizing of events. I remember this story from minutes after it first happened. When Neda died the eyewitnesses said that it was an UNSEEN member of the Basij militia shooting from a rooftop. That was the story for HOURS after it happened.
1) While the Basij militia is the most reasonable entity to do something like this from what little I or most people on Digg really knows about them, that still means no one saw it happen.
2) As random, senseless acts go this is fairly random and senseless, which makes it especially horrifying.
3) There are no reporters on the ground, so who is doing the interviews on these stories?
Anyway, fast forward a day or so and suddenly it was two men on a motorcycle driving right up to them and shooting her.
1) How the HELL did this go from one unseen sniper on a rooftop to TWO militiamen on a motorcycle driving right up to her. How do you forget that two people drove up and shot someone right next to you in cold blood until days later?
2) The image of the militiamen on motorcycles has been a standard identifier of Basij militia, often seen on motorcycle with baseball bats during the protests. This sounds like people fitting facts to match the shared consciousness of events.
It doesn't change that an innocent woman died from a murderous act, but it does cause me to wonder how much actual information is being shared and how much myth-making on behalf of a movement is replacing it. Neda wasn't a revolutionary, but now her murder is being coopted. - Dauntless1, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9Gameegineer hopes to be a man one day.
- Loki101, on 06/23/2009, -3/+12Jeez, people, how much are the mullah's paying you?
- solid12345, on 06/23/2009, -1/+10Trollah Akbhar!
- joshthegreat200, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9Wtf are you saying?
- gcnaddict, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9Yes.
People in power don't care about religion, regardless of their upbringing or their route to power. They'll either use it to control or to intimidate. - inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9You can't be serious.
- Loki101, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8He's saying: "Too bad someone died, but it's the protester's fault".
- FOR3MAN, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8That has been corrected withe more information. Not an inconsistency. More of speculation. I will not digg you down
- dn11, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8I'm going to guess this digg was linked to from some right wing, bat ***** website or forum for some reason, only explanation I can come up with.
- Loki101, on 06/23/2009, -1/+9I took a look at some of their profiles.
Amongst the articles they've dugg up - "Shah's son urging more protests", "Son of Shah says protest defeat could lead to nuclear war" etc.
Comments they've made include - "Revolution? LOL! An election was made and, surprise, someone close to the majority won and now the loser won't back down"
I think we can see a pattern emerging here. - dixta, on 06/23/2009, -0/+7Mate, what is your ***** problem? You've done nothing but rage on everyone's comments so far. Nobody is taking you seriously, whatever "message" you're trying to convey is lost in your childish, angsty rage.
You're a troll, plain and simple. - sealink, on 06/23/2009, -2/+9By the sniper rifle? Private citizens in Iran aren't allowed to own that kind of firepower.
- FattyMagee, on 06/23/2009, -2/+9I guess I misinterpreted those massive protests in Iran. Those people must have actually liked the election results...
/do i really need an s here? - inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6It's making me sad.
- Innuendo24, on 06/23/2009, -2/+8Or they weren't all recorded on video as intimately?
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7You say that in every "Neda" thread. You're kind of a *****.
- ultimusgt, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7***** bastards...
that video left an impression on me not a huge shocking one
but a sad, deep, empty, long lasting one, like if i couldnt believe what i was seeing, :(
more power to their cause - cjh24, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6I thought the guy with her was her Dad. Dad/Music teacher, it's all the same I guess.
(PS: I know I will be dugg down, just wanted to point out the inconsistancy with the on-going story) - Dauntless1, on 06/23/2009, -2/+7@gameengineer
Angsty much?
You and osullibhean don't seem to care that the election was rigged, which is why people are outraged.
By the way, no amount of calling other people names is going to make anyone care about you or make your opinion valid. - sulthernao, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4And you aren't a very good troll, either.
- Bloodwine, on 06/23/2009, -3/+7I guess I was asleep when Bush ordered troops to open fire on protesters in the U.S.
- Dauntless1, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5@gameengineer
You awfully angry, aren't you? Impotent rage much? Having problems gettin it up? Everyone's bitch in real life so you pretend to be a thug on digg? Classic. Rant away, the more you talk the less relevant you are. -
