- maz2331, on 06/24/2009, -3/+513Kim must be really unhinged if he believes that they can do more than slightly sting the
USA. And if they did try a first-strike with a nuke, the retaliation would be massive and beyond decicive. One submarine carries enough Trident missiles armed with 475 kT warheads to eliminate every significant target in NK faster than Dominos can deliver a pizza. - demicritter, on 06/24/2009, -2/+382For a country that can't even produce enough food to feed its people they sure do have a big mouth.
- Landthatilove, on 06/24/2009, -93/+396I bet Obama will write them a stern letter!
- benroy, on 06/25/2009, -4/+286What ever North Korea ends up doing, it will undoubtedly be hilarious.
Then kind of sad. And then Hilarious again. - RandomGorilla, on 06/25/2009, -7/+239Am I the only one imagining the leader of North Korea standing on top of his house trying very hard to light a bottle rocket he's pointing in the general direction of Hawaii?
"***** cheap airport lighters..." *click click click* "LIGHT GODDAMN IT!!" - jjohnstn, on 06/25/2009, -3/+222Kim Jong Il no doubt watched the press conference to see what type of reaction he would get from the U.S. Seeing no reaction probably left him frustrated.
- kwmayo, on 06/24/2009, -35/+237Time for some nasty finger shaking. And we mean it this time
- suntzusputnik, on 06/25/2009, -4/+197what a ***** troll
- tpmidd, on 06/24/2009, -37/+213In his 55 minute press conference yesterday the President made not ONE mention of North Korea, and not ONE reporter asked him a question about them. That's sad.
- wiggles, on 06/24/2009, -4/+162Kim's not just crazy -- he's stupid too.
- yocouchdigga, on 06/25/2009, -2/+151ITT: Kim Jong II, trolling the entire world.

vs. Kim's limp rocket that can barely hit the Pacific Ocean? Tell me why I'm not concerned.

- Griberal, on 06/24/2009, -16/+128It's time for Obama to get on the phone with the North Korea leadership and invite them to eat hotdogs with him on July 4th.
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -4/+116FTA:
North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days. - maz2331, on 06/25/2009, -2/+105Yes. Trying to minimize collateral damage is harder than just slaughtering everyone you come across. The US military could do the latter and didn't. Guerilla warfare and terrorism make big weapons ineffective and require the more difficult approach of small-unit engagement with rifles and the occasional airstrike.
The USA could have quite easily and cheaply gone in as totalitarian bastards and subdued the entire place in short order. - maz2331, on 06/25/2009, -3/+104Actually, no.
"Last week, however, Obama and President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea issued a joint statement saying that "the continuing commitment of extended deterrence, including the U.S. nuclear umbrella," provides assurance that the U.S. would respond if Pyongyang ever puts into action the threats it has repeatedly hurled at South Korea."
Basically, Obama has explicitly threatened North Korea with nuclear retaliation for any attack on South Korea. Even if DPRK forces attack with conventional weapons, they might be used to prevent an overrun of the South. He wasn't even subtle about it - if the DPRK attacks, they are in for absolute destruction using everything Obama has available. I doubt he is joking here.
Obama has not repudiated the Bush administration's doctrine of adding first-strike options on the use of nuclear weapons. He very well might decide to push the button, and say to the world that "those who will not uncleanch their fists will pay a very heavy price. We want to talk, but can and will fight. And we don't 'fight fair', we fight to win." - ericdano, on 06/25/2009, -10/+109Oh no. Better call the UN to sanction them again.
- x2dx, on 06/25/2009, -3/+100wipe the united states off the map WITH WHAT?
Anything you throw our way will come back your way 100 times bigger. - esdjco, on 06/24/2009, -23/+116Which the USPS won't be able to deliver, because we're out of money.
- 5urr3al5am, on 06/25/2009, -0/+93Tell Kim 30 minutes or the next one's free!!
- DarkCloud515, on 06/25/2009, -3/+94The only thing that is taking down the US is the US itself.
- DirtyVicar, on 06/25/2009, -2/+90Nothing will happen. This kind of rhetoric has gone on for 35 years and it's all about getting aid and concessions. The DPRK leaders, like a bunch of Southern plantation owners, are not going to be very keen on someone coming in and taking away their privileged lifestyles.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -2/+86No, but I also hear him as voiced in Team America.
- TheBigBad, on 06/25/2009, -3/+85South Korea's parking problems may be solved with the addition of a new lot next door.
- harrisbradley, on 06/25/2009, -2/+83Hans...
...you're breakin' my bahwrs. - kd1s, on 06/25/2009, -8/+86Indeed, all he has to do is lob one missile at the U.S. and North Korea will become a radioactive parking lot.
Do you think we just have destroyers on patrol? There are probable Los Angeles class attack subs and Ohio class ballistic subs nearby.
I forget the MIRV count but I think an Ohio has what, 32 missiles each with a minimum 8 MIRV's. That's 256 bombs with 40MT or better yields.
Goodbye North Korea and thank you for playing. - chuckDontSurf, on 06/25/2009, -23/+90Just like he did with the Somali pirates, right?
- derektherock42, on 06/25/2009, -2/+68They're totally capable of producing enough food for their people. It's just that they don't want to feed their people. They just want to build themselves the 5th-largest army in the world, even if it means putting everybody else in the country into poverty.

"Oh, that Kim! What what zany misadventures will he get us into this week? - ecoop3r, on 06/25/2009, -2/+63Maybe he as an international map on a chalkboard and he is threatening to erase us off it? I really don't know what other weapons he could even try to threaten us with.
- airencracken, on 06/25/2009, -1/+60Joe: Your plan will fail! You'll never keep the world leaders distracted here for 9 hours!
Kim Jong Il: Oh no? I've got Arec Barrwin!
Joe: Dear God! - ButtBangler, on 06/25/2009, -0/+58some guy( excuse my vagueness) in washington said at a press conference in response to the "Wipe the us off the map, " he said "For what and with what?"
- mrogi, on 06/25/2009, -3/+61Kim Jong has a foolproof plan for North Korean economic development: Start a war with the United States; Get his ass kicked; Then the US will rebuild his country. It worked for Japan..
- TheInformer, on 06/25/2009, -2/+59Did you know that 90% of Korea's ruling class have cataracts? The other 10% have Rincolns and Chevrorets.

- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/25/2009, -2/+55@dnasty: 1) I hope everyone is with me when I say that a nuclear war with ANYONE is not something I ever want to see in my lifetime.
2) North Korea isn't going to nuke us. It will not happen. They do not have the means nor the technology, not to mention that any attempt to launch any attack against U.S. soil would be met with an overwhelming response.
3) Obama certainly "has the balls" to defend our country, and he would do it much more intelligently than the last administration managed their war of choice. - jamesotis, on 06/24/2009, -8/+59Let's not get carried away now!
- 5urr3al5am, on 06/25/2009, -2/+51North Korea does know that the US fought in Iraq and Afghanistan with a blindfold on and both our hands tied behind its backs...
- PlusTheBear, on 06/24/2009, -3/+52It should take 30 minutes.
But you know it doesn't. - megaton, on 06/25/2009, -0/+48Problem is you're assuming the dying (or already dead) Kim Jong-il cares if North Korea is obliterated.
- Ymeg, on 06/25/2009, -1/+48I'm sure the US Military has a bomb for every situation.
- Professr, on 06/25/2009, -1/+47Unless you get someone crazy enough to do it anyway.
- FreddieD, on 06/25/2009, -0/+46North Korea picking a fight with the United States is like me getting into the octagon with Royce Gracie.
