Mysterious illness Outbreak in Canada, Train Quarantined
cnews.canoe.ca — Ambulances and police scrambled to the hamlet of Foleyet, Ont., on Friday after one person died and several others fell ill on a Via Rail passenger train en route from Vancouver to Toronto. The train was under quarantine as authorities rushed to tend to those with flu-like symptoms and find out what was causing the illness.

*****, I should've bought that shotgun when I had the chance (which was never). - davidschuster, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1Yes, the thousands of people that coincidently got sick in Ontario at the same time have nothing to do with an infectious disease. The only condition possible is mass hysteria, so please turn off all televisions, radios, computers, cellphones and any other media devices to avoid contracting this 'condition.'
- romistrub, on 05/10/2008, -2/+16I lol'd!
- bxblox, on 05/10/2008, -1/+17Why would you quarantine noninfectious disease?
- AROZ, on 05/10/2008, -0/+6For reasons unknown even to me...
- cheezintern, on 05/10/2008, -0/+9cause they're clearly trying to cover up the zombie infection.
- emjaymj, on 05/10/2008, -1/+20I'm guessing that's because they were uncertain about the fact that it was noninfectious immediately when it happened, but logic doesn't really matter.
- bxblox, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1I was unaware of whether or not they were still quarantined, and assumed they were. On that basis the question is valid. Save the sarcasm.
- Yazilliclick, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2So you would suggest that when something odd medically happens that could be infectious that we do nothing until we know it in fact is? interesting strategy.

The general consensus in the office was that if it was anything, it was the "Norwalk virus" which has the wonderful attribute of being passed from humans to other humans via (no pun intended) feces. Makes sense that it was a false alarm, and I'm still convinced that the minor viral infection mentioned is Norwalk.

Excerpt from the Lincoln Journal Star, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Tuesday night, Bryan Backhaus woke up with chills. On Wednesday, he didn't make it through the work day at Bike Pedalers, a shop where he started tinkering in his teens and bought a couple of years ago with his friend Greg Dunbar.
At about 5 on Wednesday, his girlfriend, Jenni Dickey, found him at their home. He was visibly ill, and went to the hospital with flu-like symptoms.
Doctors tested him for every kind of infection and virus, and told the family they didn't know what was happening, but it was serious.
They tried everything they could, Bryan’s mother, Judy Backhaus, said. But by about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, he was gone. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
