Mysterious Blurred Image on Google Earth/Maps
flickr.com — Found while looking for directions, outside of Lexington KY. It looks as though there was an image that was blurred randomly along Athens Boonesboro Rd. Check it out at LAT: 37°58'47.21"N, LON: 84°25'7.99"W.

Metal Gear time! - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+37> yea cuz it rains in space all the time
Picture was taken by an airplane. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29OK, now I'm scared:
http://external.pathdaemon.com/nowimscared.png - krische, on 10/12/2007, -11/+10it could be a rain drop. some of these pictures are taking from planes flying over, not necessarily from space.
- berwiki, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1it looks like its casting a shadow as well.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14The take the pictures from planes, then scan them. It's a drop of water, either on the camera lens or on the scanner. They don't have higher resolution images because they use the hi-res images to assemble the lower res ones and that spot has a drop of water on it.
Or maybe Google is running secret alien terror camps you aren't supposed to know about. - kagelump, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1airplane?
I was always under the impresion it was a camera tied to a weather/arieal balloon - humanawho, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5It just looks like its a spot that didn't get updated to higher rez; very exciting left over low resolution spot on google maps!
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12No, it is not a rain drop. The distortion would be different. Plus there would be a sequence of raindrops because of the different pictures taken with the same camera.
I have seen this blur thing before when I was looking at yemen. I think google earth probably just blurrs areas when the private land owners request them to. - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yea its nothing......(unless not watering you grass is a crime, then they blurred the wrong house)

yep thats all it is a raindrop or distortion of some sort. all thats there is a field, nothing more unless its hidden underground. - asuraci, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow, that whole area is kind of messed up.

"Doh" - neuros, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Somebody is obviously growing tons of cannabis and paid off Google to keep their ***** in the dark. ;)
DUH. - neuros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1why digg me down for a little bit of pot humour?
- Nydas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Its an alien scout spaceship. Duh.

- fety, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Blurred along with their minds.
- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1haha +digg for the Mitch Hedberg reference
perhaps it is actually a picture of bigfoot? - anitab83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This type of stuff happens all the time. There are Google pictures with bugs on them, so unless there are 400 ft long bugs running around, it's probably likely this is just a water spot (or a pee spot from the bug).
- Taume, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1strange, really strange
- Lokix, on 10/12/2007, -25/+4It's just a spot that they don't have any pictures for... go look up those coordinates ont he satellite and zoom all the way in.

- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's possible that this picture showed something temporary that wasn't there when MS's picture was taken.

- olystice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Whew! It's just a house.
We can all live in peace now.
...maybe an alien house? - autodata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you zoom in on google's image, there's actually a well-defined rectangle in the blur. The blur looks very deliberate, although there probably is some trivial reason behind it. Maybe some paranoid googler's parents live there or something. :-
- Tddupre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I live in winchester, that's just a big blur :(
- GenericUser2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's a conspiracy. :O
- zain832, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1send it to india,they'll take care of techincal issues. :)
- MyNightwish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Some people need to realise that UFO doesn't automatically mean an alien spacecraft.. it means it's an unidentified flying object
It could be anything...
But it is weird that they would blur the image out, what would their reasons be for bluring it? - idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Its Gebus!
- idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thats right. Gebus.
- dudad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn.. I spilled my coffee again.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7With all of the google crap thats been happening today, I would assume you are on your 14th pot of coffee today?
- Kevin624, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This has been discussed before on the internet... the picture was taken from a plane, not a satellite. The camera is housed in a glass or plastic bubble underneath the plane. The blur is simply a droplet of condensation on the lens or the bubble.
- idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The whole internet discussed it? WOW?!
- Fascist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=37.979073~-84.419342&style=a&lvl=18&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=2023607
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"bird's eye view" image is also there...
- zail1, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Wow This story is soooo old, I just digged it when it was up and coming from a week ago, and bang main page, it isn't that good of a story either.
- idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Your mom is old.
- spargett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Can't assume anything super special is being hidden RIGHT NEXT to a 4 lane interstate.
- Shibby3230, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Ohhhhh, That's where Osama's been hiding, no wonder we couldn't find him.
- toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe it's Obama, hey CNN check this out.
- geektanic08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1everyone in that area is either naked, covered in gore, or both..
or it's just a drop of water. - FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I live in Lexington. My girlfriend has lived here her entire life, and we can both attest that there is nothing there but a barn, and some farm land. I actually live right around the corner and might be tempted to drive down there and go look.
- lmushl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Man, EVERYTHING from Google is falling to pieces...
- Hoovooloo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you want to see real censorship in google maps, look at the white house, and notice how the roof is flat and featureless, when in reality there is a garden and clusters of antenna.
A fun game: Google map DC and try to find government buildings by looking for blurred roofs - CtrlAltDelete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1open with Google Earth, it'll bring you right to the blur:
http://two.xthost.info/blur/Mysterious%20Blur.kmz - wavelength1978, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0There are rocks in space too. WOO, one passed in front of the camera while it was shooting. Considering the shutter speed that is necessary to freeze the ground while the sattelite is zooming around in orbit, I'd say this object was moving incredibly fast.
- entity3sf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I could tell you. But then I'd have to kill you.
- lmushl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks like a blurry skydiver. Squint and use your iMAAAGination
- Nuttyguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its just 2 houses with swimming pools on windows live maps.

- Tek12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did anyone stop to think that maybe the owners of that land just didn't want to have their property on Google and asked for it to be blurred? Just a thought...
- Anthem26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Area-51 in Kentucky?
- etoiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3... zoom out a bit, looks like the older map on the right. It is just a bunch of 'old' pixels from a previous shot.
- captianfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=37.979695~-84.420184&style=h&lvl=17&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=2023607
HAHA lol its nothing according to MSN maps.- sublimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we've already established that captain!
you must be from KY
- sublimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we've already established that captain!
- HomieG6189, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe Google is trying to tell us something!
- CtrlAltDelete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1As well, i just noticed, if you zoom in to the maximum on google maps, it gives you a "We Are sorry...can't zoom in this much...etc..." for only that blurred area.
- captianfury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yea but check out http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=37.979695~-84.420184&style=h&lvl=17&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=2023607 there is nothing there but a field.
- butch3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0this is not the first phenomenom in google earth/maps
there was a blurry bluish sphere in central florida if I remember correctly. - jonesyhahaha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wow, I can't believe 182 (as of this post) morons have dugg this. It's a drop of water.
Please, digg me down. Your immaturity is tangible.- etoiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if that is a drop of water... then there is a big ribbon of water to its right (about 3 screen widths in the first google map link)
- Sp0rAdiC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If it were just a drop of water, then why can't you zoom in on the blurred area as much as the surrounding area?
- kevin45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Must be the area where they make Jack Daniels? Would explain the blurriness.
Ah *****, except thats made in TN. Well, KY and TN are basically the same anyway.. - slimc9999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's a big cow turd.
- speedy11309, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0so thats where the seattle kingdome went....sneaky people trying to tell me it was blown up. ha! i'm onto you....
- zekard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's worth it to mention that I have read and heard a lot about NASA "regularly airbrush[ing] UFO images from hi-res satellite imaging" src: (http://www.netmag.co.uk/zine/discover-interview/net-exclusive-interview-with-gary-mckinnon). As I remain very skeptical about the existence of UFOs I offer this only as a possibility because it is inline with several Documentaries on Google video and also with the claims of Gary McKinnon.
- fjacky66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's the entrance into the Bizarro world.
- martyf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There's more to mapping than Google Maps, especially when it comes to images:

Yes as mentioned in previous comments. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That redirected me to the homepage. Maybe because I'm not running IE?
