Dude, if she had a peepee in her hoohaa then she's technically not a virgin, regardless of what she gets re-sewn. It just makes her a self-deluding liar.
Sorry. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+83Virginity is in the mind more than anything else. A hymen can be broken accidentally and you can be completely unaware of it. Sewing it up doesn't make you a virgin.
- mistermanoli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61wouldnt she technically still NOT be a virgin?
- KuntaKinte, on 10/12/2007, -14/+64muslim women regain virginity in clinics.....lose it in the bus stop
- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -10/+60FTA: "It is an attack on women's liberty."
Ummm...it's the woman's CHOICE (aka LIBERTY) to have the operation done. Not doing it as a doctor is actually an attack on the woman's liberty, no?
"He also argued that any doctor who performed these operations at state hospitals violated France's legal separation of church and state."
As mentioned in the article, the procedure is traditional, not religious (the two women mentioned in the article aren't even practicing religion!). How is the procedure even related to the issue of church and state? - kildorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+46I feel sorry for these women.
- vanbacon, on 10/12/2007, -15/+60That doesn't mean she's not a whore.
- DiggFight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32"She had her hymen re-sewn, technically making her a virgin again."
No, technically she is not a virgin, but had her hymen re-sewn. - TiKoZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Some teen agers here in egypt do it (although it's illegal) in underground clinics, so they can marry (yea you guessed it right, virginity DOES matter here).
- KuntaKinte, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29what about tampon use? can't that tear the hymen as well? what a stupid premise to go by
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Your not 'born' a muslim/christian/whatever.. it has to be brainwashed into you.
- robotexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21shes still deceitful, I would rather a girl tells me she had sex then be lied to my whole life. It's completely messed up.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18The Japanese have been doing this for years now.
- omghi2u2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Do it like the bible belt, do it in the butt! Then you are a REAL virgin, not those fake 'technical' ones.
- InfidelAl, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25Good point. Also,
"Circumcision of males is a religious commandment in Judaism and Islam,[3][4] and is customary in some Coptic, Oriental Orthodox Christian and other Christian churches in Africa."
I'm guessing they perform circumcisions in France(?). But that's not a violation of church/state separation? - Duston, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17@JackBurden (#6415617)
Agreed, technically without the use of time travel it's impossible to regain virginity. Woman's choice but kind of sad. - saintdesy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17She had sex with her boyfriend, its not like she's a freakin' French pornstar
- Kmack928, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16well, in all fairness, men can do that without any surgery whatsoever...
- dogstar0125, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Also FTA: "I don't want to have this surgery, but I don't have any choice." It's the need for the surgery that is an attack on the woman's liberty, not the surgery itself. The fact that these women are going into arranged marriages with men who "won't accept a non-virgin" is a pretty clear indication that in Muslim culture, women do not have the equality guaranteed to them by law.
- ZippidyDoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Darn technical jargon you doctor types use.
- saintdesy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13If you don't tell anyone I won't.
- meuge, on 10/12/2007, -19/+30Except that if she marries and her husband sees she doesn't bleed on their wedding night, according to the Koran it's his duty to kill her right there, or drag her out to be stoned by her family.
It's a safety measure, not a cosmetic choice. - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"The surgery is an attack on women's dignity," said Professor Jacques Lansac, president of The National College of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of France. "We will not take part in a market that places value on the quality of a woman -- if she's good or not. It is an attack on women's liberty."
Granted, it's not exactly his branch, but what would they have to say about breast augmentation, liposuction, or any other elective cosmetic surgery? These are all done to increase the social value of women, just in a different society. - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11That's not quite the same thing. The practice you're referring to is done by sewing the labia together, whereas this closes or replaces the hymen.
also, what's with your partial spam thingy? - grungemunky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It is a shame that women feel obligated to be "virgins" for some religious or social non-sense. It is a step in the wrong direction.
- BionicBeefpile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The "Cat" is out of the bag, as it were.
- ariez84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Is there a picture of an intact hymen on the internet? I mean I know this sound stupid, but if there is a video of a penis ejaculating inside a vagina, im sure its not impossible to have a picture of a hymen.
- SheriffJWPepper, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Singer Sewing Machine Company reports record sales in France
- ariez84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I never f'ed a virgin, but do you ACTUALLY feel your penis tearing through a hymen when having sex with a virgin? Thats the only reason why anyone would get this done, because in the eyes of God, you arent a virgin anymore once the "act of sex" is performed. And even society knows that a having a hymen attached doesnt make you virgin, and vice versa.
Its doesnt "technically" make you a virgin again....on the contrary. - olik, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15@meuge "Except that if she marries and her husband sees she doesn't bleed on their wedding night, according to the Koran it's his duty to kill her right there, or drag her out to be stoned by her family."
You can't seriously believe that is how it works in a large part of the world. It's true he can nullify the marriage, but he can't kill her. - Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7
And why re-sew it when you can just put in some Velcro? Best of both worlds. - mrhaines, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not sure how having your hymen re-sewn makes you a virgin. All it makes you is an individual with mutilated genitalia. At least it would stop your father from beating you to death in a religious fervor.
- Homet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This has everything to do with suppression of women. As been noted above, a woman does not have to have sex in order to break her hymen. She could just as easily break it with rigorous exercise. So this whole procedure is really purely cosmetic and based and some very ignorant and misogynistic views of sex.
What makes me most sad about Arabic and Persian cultures is that most of the time the women don't even realize how suppressed they are. - tHePeOPle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yes. Yes it is.
- colklink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@tizz66
a really small camera or a really big vagina... - insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Then that means she is insane.
- insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Its good to know its all about women's choice when they want to get a stupid operation like this, but it's all about the doctors choice when that same woman needs birth control or the morning after pill.
- Niten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It might depend on the specific woman's... anatomy, but for my part, I've "been with" two virgins, and I didn't really feel it that much – though this might have had something to do with the fact that I was wearing a condom both times. You do, however, end up with a nice bit of blood afterwards, and a sort of guilty feeling from knowing that she'll probably be feeling sore for the next couple days.
@Locasperl: If only that bit about love were true; my experience has actually been the opposite. The last one I was with suddenly decided, after six months, that she never loved me to begin with. For my part, I'm trying to escape Virginia... I'd much rather have a woman who knows just what the hell she expects out of the relationship, and out of sex for that matter. - Dipster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This isn't anything new. Japanese women used to get this done too, since premarital sex was a lot more taboo at the time than it is now.
- smart1979, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I think it shouldn't be done to be honest - what if a woman who is very sexually active has this proceedure done and misleads a man ito think she is a virgin? Not cool.
- ariez84, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"I don't want to disappoint my fiancé," she said, adjusting her glasses and brushing her highlighted brown hair from her face. "I wouldn't have had the surgery if I hadn't met him."
Awww how sweet, she doing it for her fiance. ROLLEYES.
Maybe not lying to him is the better choice. - OralCavity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7what is not cool is the retarded fetishism of virginity and the harsh consequences for women who are "experienced", while men can freely do whatever they want with no consequences. there are a lot of marriages that happen for reasons other than some romanticized version of "love" and if women can get around this double standard through a simple operation, then more power to them.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4ariez84:
You can find anything you want on the internet, especially where sex is concerned. However, there isn't really a "standard" looking one. There are some basic shapes, but they're pretty unique to the individual. - Homerr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51. Needing to marry a virgin is a FOOKED social construct.
2. Placing all the evidence in the unreliable hymen is FOOKED.
3. Checking for in-place hymens before marriage is CREEPY.
4. Men repressing women in any way, but particularly in this way, is REPREHENSIBLE.
5. I don't care if it's religion, culture, whatever - it's WRONG. - OralCavity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Maybe him not divorcing her and alienating her from her family and friends just because of her not being a virgin would be the better choice that he should make. ...but, no. you are a moron, so it's easier for you to blame the victim.
ROLLSEYES - freakgd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@jackburden
agreed. its the psycological value not the physical one. - OralCavity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4coming from "imgonnafart"....
- UrbanVoyeur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"She had her hymen re-sewn, technically making her a virgin again."
I prefer to think of it as "pre-owned". - spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4this reflects the materialist view Muslims have on women. They are only worth ANYTHING if they are virgins. If they are single, and not virgin, they are worth less than the dirt on the ground in the eye of a Muslim man. Hence the sick, disgusting surgery they put themselves through. They have to in order to be of any value in the Muslim world.
- akzidenzgrotesk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ meuge
actually, even if there is a hymen, there's no guarantee there will be bleeding. i spent pretty much all of my teenage years scared to death i'd get blood all over everything when i lost my virginity, but after i actually did i barely bled at all (certainly not enough to stain any sheets or leave any "evidence") -
