- AmyVernon, on 11/29/2008, -1/+47It's the best example I've seen yet of what Twitter actually can be useful for. Much more so than "I just ate breakfast; going to work now."
- ranon78, on 11/29/2008, -0/+20There were many places where twitter stopped rumours. The best example of this is that the shooting at RBI was quickly confirmed to be false.
- sanman, on 11/30/2008, -0/+13"I just got shot several times; going to die now; can't feel my legs"
ah, progress, isn't it wonderful? - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 11/30/2008, -0/+8And Twitter STILL didn't make dollar one...
- kreatr, on 11/29/2008, -0/+7Still the ***** home minister thinks it was a small incident ...

- habenneas, on 11/30/2008, -1/+7That's too bad about Steve having that heat attack...
- wkrausmann, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6No one needs to have their movements tracked. Trust me, you are not that interesting.
- rheaume, on 11/30/2008, -0/+5OMG im lk ttly getin shot @
- Headinawheel, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4Right, 'cuz everybody wants to know what average housewives tweet: "Just cleaned shower - eww. Sinks next!"
- douglasr007, on 11/30/2008, -2/+6I bet you there was more updates via Facebook than Twitter. I don't understand the hype and need of Twitter.
- g33b33, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4Well,must have been global warming.
- DifferentAngle, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4So you're going to set up a twitter account just in case your hotel gets stormed by terrorists? Or do you sign up during?
- Thousand, on 11/30/2008, -1/+4Except that the "purpose" of Twitter is the exact behaviour that the critics deride. Twitter was made for what we hate about it. The fact that it happens to have a second use in a situation such as this is a very welcome bonus. Twitter is not a crisis management and reporting tool. It's a tool to post about what you ate for lunch, or how drunk you are. THAT is what the critics hate about it, and rightly so.
- wirerat1, on 11/30/2008, -8/+11Wake me up when such media attention is given to the hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians that have been killed on a routine basis in Iraq and Afghanistan all in the name of "War on Terrorism". While obviously, Mumbai was a very tragic event, like a pack of starving hounds, the media was all over the event because it was convenient for them to cover. There were flights to the area, hotels for them to stay in, most people spoke English and required very little effort on their part. The Western media only cares because India has become such an integral part of our economic survival. Who the hell cares if innocent wedding processions or families are killed by Predator drones, squads doing house to house searches, or bad intelligence obliterating a schools or homes. Let me know when all lives are equal, because the media only loves stories like this because they spread fear.
- Dailydose4me, on 11/30/2008, -1/+3Twitter was very helpful. There were crucial info posted on Twitter that even mainstream TV did not broadcast. It was very helpful for the civilians.
- katedog, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2Like what?
- sanman, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2uhh, Twits?
- mreade, on 11/30/2008, -2/+4Sure, we'll send you a tweet
- locojones, on 11/30/2008, -2/+3"It's the best example I've seen yet of what Twitter actually can be useful for."
You mean the fact that it was "flooded with bunkum about the events in Mumbai"? In other words, uninformed crap that was just plain wrong? Yeah, what a service to the world. - futuretense, on 11/30/2008, -2/+3I see twitter like the stream of consciousness of the internet. It is a bridge to a more sophisticated system that will spawn the awakening of the great global brain. Individual humans are neurons like singers in a chorus of thought . RIF!
- futuretense, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1I agree with most of what your saying. I don't think that "the media" is covering this story with such verve to simply spread fear. They are covering it because fear sells and sensational fear sells even better and those attacks were pretty sensational. But yes the lack of reporting on civilian deaths in Iraq is outrageous. I never hear numbers on the amount of death and injury. Just because the U.S. military doesn't do body counts doesn't mean the media shouldn't.
- mrbecker, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1I thought the whole thing was an @michael_bay prank.
- mongrel, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1Tweets which in turn were read by the terrorists, the best live, reactionary, summary news platform available.
- richw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1I've never liked twitter or never really found out what it was because I refuse to visit websites that make me sign up before even seeing what the damn site is.
- tapeworm77, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1With twitter you can follow someone else without them following you - kind of a 1 way conversation, but you can always privately send a message to them if you want. That's why a lot of doucebags post inane details of their life there, it's like their private fan club. Wait, am I still describing the benefits over Facebook?
- douglasr007, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1Really? You think so? I can still see my status updates from months ago.
- digitaldivinci, on 11/30/2008, -1/+2It's sad that people's last testaments to the world had to be less than 140 characters..
- yashrg, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1The part when the tweets started mirroring the news on Television channels, was when twitter lost its novelty.
- phdude, on 11/30/2008, -1/+1
The NWO will not like this at all.
I'm sure they will shut this down asap.
Did you notice how the mainstream media instantly blamed this on al qaeda.
Mainstream media is all lies. - perspikace, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0Dont care, Facebook do not record them...
- clickwir, on 11/30/2008, -3/+3eh, I've seen a bunch of people's twitter pages. I really don't see a point to the entire site. It seems kinda stupid.
- takemewithyou, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0This is amazing. I hope the internet would forever be free..
- xtractor, on 11/30/2008, -2/+2Twitter might be useful, but in its stage of growth and in the current economy, it's not worth $500 mm.
- johnbers, on 02/21/2009, -0/+0Interesting article, I like your writing style. I just started writing myself.

- inactive, on 11/30/2008, -4/+1I wonder why indian heads float sideways all the time?
- Darkranes, on 11/29/2008, -9/+3Twitter will continue getting media like this until it becomes as big as other social marketting goliath's such as Myspace and your average housewife will use/ or at least know what Twitter is.
This is our day to shine Twit-ites, or err Twitterers. - mrmiggidude, on 11/29/2008, -11/+2Can the critics get over it and accept that twitter has purpose?
