Mormons Have Nothing to do With Texas Polygamy Sect

Hinckley, speaking about the clear distinction between the Church and polygamous sects. "I wish to state categorically that this Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. Most of them have never been members ... If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church."
- ama49, on 04/14/2008, -0/+0This is good and I'm glad the church discontinued polygamy...however I think people still get confused because polygamy is still in Doctrine and Covenants as a celestial law and it is technically still practiced in temples when people marry after their wife passed on. I would feel more comfortable if they took polygamy clear out of the picture and I think others would too. Then it would be easier for the Mormons not to be associated with polygamy.
