I just don't know what to say about that, except disgusting!
I think I will go watch The Meaning of Life, now. Laters! - yournightmare, on 07/12/2009, -4/+85So far there have been three Monty Python quotes in the comments, except all of them are from Holy Grail and not Life of Brian.
"Wait till Biggus Dickus hears of this!" - grinsy, on 07/12/2009, -1/+63Always look on the bright side of life.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -11/+68Most controversial? Bah, the most controversial thing on television in my old home of Iran is any motion picture relating to WWII. Because according to the Supreme Leader and Amadinejad, the holocaust never happened.
- pplant, on 07/12/2009, -2/+54Spectator I: I think it was "Blessed are the cheesemakers".
Mrs. Gregory: Aha, what's so special about the cheesemakers?
Gregory: Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products. - Sabretou, on 07/12/2009, -2/+43Quick reminder for all you commenters: Controversial != Extreme/Shocking/Graphic
- Zarokima, on 07/12/2009, -0/+38Reread what he wrote. He wasn't claiming the holocaust never happened, he was stating the well-known fact that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (President of Iran) is a holocaust denier.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -3/+40how is monty python more controversial than salo?!
- Shakermaker, on 07/12/2009, -0/+37Um.....he wasn't saying it "sucked".
I think he was talking about how society views a comedy "poking fun at" religious topics, as MORE controversial as a film with depicts scenes of grueosme violence and rape. - ak666jk, on 07/12/2009, -1/+37I wouldn't even say it's the most controversial Monty Python film...
- DiscoUnderpants, on 07/12/2009, -1/+29He has a wife you know...

"holocaust never happened? was that sarcasm?" Was that sarcasm? - dubjah, on 07/12/2009, -0/+25He's playing the role of Sir Not Appearing in this Article.
- analogkid01, on 07/12/2009, -0/+24Backdoor Sluts 9 makes Crotch Capers 3 look like Naughty Nurses 2.
- bajesus, on 07/12/2009, -2/+25My first thoughts were of Salo, Visitor Q, Holy Mountain, and I Spit On Your Grave. But, it looks like this list was voted on by the public, and they have been successfully shielded from those. I guess scandal doesn't sell all that well.
- Poochyfud, on 07/12/2009, -1/+21One of my friends bought Caligula (not knowing anything about it) for his girlfriend's birthday because they liked Roman history. Needless to say he was in the dog house for a while and had to buy her a few more presents...

- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -3/+21I just watched this a few days ago because I keep hearing about this along with Holy Grail. It was good but I thought Holy Grail was better. The nudity was unexpected...
I see how it's controversial; it shows how religion is so subjective that it can be a complete farce. - omnithought, on 07/12/2009, -0/+16I'm not
- CTK14A, on 07/12/2009, -4/+20No Cannibal Holocaust?
- ryanonfire, on 07/12/2009, -1/+16I just wiki'ed some of those movies, pretty ***** up & nasty... *drives to video store*

"Brian wasn't the messiah... he was a very naughty boy.. - analogkid01, on 07/12/2009, -0/+15Digg, or an ancient stoning? You decide.
- rl41, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12Took me a couple of seconds to see what you did there, Chinzon
- jake1337, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12Life's a piece of *****, when you look at it.
- freakstyle571, on 07/12/2009, -2/+14What about Backdoor Sluts 9!?!?!?
- nyxerebos, on 07/12/2009, -2/+13That shouldn't be controversial so much as painfully obvious.
- ocharry, on 07/12/2009, -2/+13Wrong film by Monty Python.
- Spacejack, on 07/12/2009, -1/+12Well, being a list of controversial movies, I would guess that, crazily enough, it would be the one which generated the most controversy. How the hell can a movie that's only seen be weirdfilm aficionados ever be the most controversial?
- wild, on 07/12/2009, -0/+11What was wrong with it? Nothing says "I love you" more than watching Malcolm McDowell butter up his fist and shove it up a dudes ass.
- Rollleft, on 07/12/2009, -0/+11 Footnote: John's family's surname was previously "Cheese", but his father changed his surname to "Cleese" in 1915

- avidbuff, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10The Meaning of Life
- klashar, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10YES... WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS!
- teamgwho, on 07/12/2009, -3/+13rape is an attack on ne individual, but mocking of the holy lord is an attack on us all!
/s - zeex, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10Quite right, I also noticed that:
"The news comes on the eve of an upcoming 40th anniversary reunion planned for the comedy troupe this fall in which Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam will all appear for a short musical based on Monty Pythons Life of Brian entitled Not the Messiah (He’s a very naughty boy). The only member of Python which will not be in attendance will be Graham Chapman who sadly passed away back in 1989."
This is written as if this John Cleese person is no more! As if he has ceased to exist... - bajesus, on 07/12/2009, -1/+11Skip Visitor Q. Seriously, that movie hate-***** my soul.
- omnithought, on 07/12/2009, -1/+10I watch it every Easter!
- kingofnexus, on 07/12/2009, -5/+14Can be? Don't you mean *is* a complete farce?
- kanojo1969, on 07/12/2009, -0/+8I was around when Brian was first released. It was certainly a novelty amongst my group of 11-year-olds, but I don't rceall any kind of controversy at all from the adults. The article doesn't really clarify what was considered so risque, and who was offended, and what was done about it. Neither does it tell us about the countries involved.
So all in all a pretty worthless ranking exercise. - analogkid01, on 07/12/2009, -1/+9Here's the thing: Life of Brian is controversial only if you have the attention span of a marmot. It is clearly shown in the first five minutes of the film that it is *NOT* a movie about Jesus. It is a movie about Brian, who is (eventually) mistaken for a messiah, and gets crucified - just like a lot of other people did those days. There's no controversy at all if you understood that very obvious point. (Palin's "Every Sperm is Sacred" is more of a dig on religion than Life of Brian is, anyway.)
- Cartman86, on 07/12/2009, -2/+10This is a comedy about religion and it's in Britain and yet it's still considered controversial? Maybe if this was a US poll I would understand... actually no because most Americans have never even heard of the Life of Brian.
- mathew_bug, on 07/12/2009, -0/+8What about Cannibal Holocaust?...
- darzeecompany, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7Beverly Hills Chihuahua
- spidoman, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7Also, keep in mind that this was a British pole. Birth of Nation isn't going to be on their radar, along with quite a few other shocking or controversial films.
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7I just read Visitor Q on Wikipedia. Honestly, what the ***** is that? That is pretty ***** ***** up.
