- bigfatdummy, on 01/26/2008, -4/+133Thanks to two Monte Carlo employees, Luis Leal and Aqlipino Hskpng Housemen for helping my Mother down 24 flights of stairs. I really doubt she would have made it down the stairs on her own.
- sundancekid503, on 01/26/2008, -0/+95Apparently Rainbow 6 didn't get there in time... shame
- iRaachie, on 01/26/2008, -4/+81Whose going to be the first to say
"The roof, The roof The roof is on fire!"
Oh, guess it was me.
The whole facade is made out of Stucco and Styrofoam according to CNN on TV right now. Had it been made out of Cement, This fire wouldn't have been as bad as it is. I hope everyone's alright. - inactive, on 01/26/2008, -0/+72Glad I don't get my breaking news from Digg...
- erohen, on 01/26/2008, -0/+60I was just there last week, thats what they get for taking all my money.....
- d3dm, on 01/26/2008, -1/+60No, that's the U.S. economy.
- ChrisTek, on 01/26/2008, -3/+57Being the comment whore that I am, I went to about fourty duplicates of this story and posted it. But, you got the most popular. Congrats.

- atb112, on 01/26/2008, -6/+36I question Scientology's involvement in this event
- Harbinger67, on 01/26/2008, -1/+30Now taking bets on how long it takes Fox News to link this to Al-Qaeda.
- inactive, on 01/26/2008, -4/+30Maybe they should just "Pull It".
- Herostratus, on 01/26/2008, -0/+22Dugg up for actually having checked that...
- thall, on 01/26/2008, -1/+19If you were looking to make money you should've invested in the stock market instead....oh wait....

- rentmitchum, on 01/26/2008, -1/+15If you are flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.
- loquedesea, on 01/26/2008, -1/+14nothing like a good push when you need one...
- foxymcfox, on 01/26/2008, -0/+13Thanks, New Digg Algorithm, now we have to wait 12 hours for breaking news to actually break.
- michaelje0, on 01/26/2008, -0/+12I work at a Wells Fargo Bank with a perfect view of the whole thing about a mile away. I counted out some dudes withdrawal, and looked up. Almost dropped a WTF. After about half an hour, I went on lunch break and watched the rest of it on TV. Well, I switched back and forth between that and Family Feud.
- qber, on 01/26/2008, -0/+11Srsly. They got the fire under control hours ago. I was watching Digg this morning wondering why this story didn't show up.
- JJ2K1, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9I know the economy is bad and all but damn, setting your own casino on fire for insurance claims is a good idea!
- danconia, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9LOL took long enough to hit front page...
- shempey, on 01/26/2008, -6/+15Hope everyone's okay. Wonder how it got started...
- bigfatdummy, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9Monte Carlo
"Revised: January 25, 2008 at 01:15 PM PST
Thank you for your concern and support at this time. Monte Carlo management is responding to the situation at hand. Thanks to quick action, both our employees and our guests were promptly evacuated. All of our guests will be relocated to a sister property for the duration of their planned stay in Las Vegas. Response from Las Vegas Fire Department has been fast and effective. They are investigating the cause of the fire, but we don’t want to speculate at this moment. We will provide updates as they arise."
Update from the hotel management. - monkeestylee, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9hard to leave them no limit tables i guess
- doctorfungi, on 01/26/2008, -1/+10No.
- koko775, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9I think Hskpng = Housekeeping. Aqlipino Housekeeping Housemen. Makes sense, doesn't it? I could be wrong.
- Butros, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9digg sucks for breaking news
- d3dm, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9There were some welders working on the roof earlier during the day. You do the math.
- Wailord, on 01/26/2008, -0/+8It took the Fire Dept. over half an hour to get there, too...
- AzureRise, on 01/26/2008, -0/+8"thats what they get for taking all my money....."
Is that a confession? - shagg187, on 01/26/2008, -1/+9Damn you Digg! I got burned because you all were too busy reading about anonymous and *****. [/s]
- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -18/+26because giuliani wasn't involved, of course. had he been mayor of las vegas the entire building would have collapsed.
- martyf, on 01/26/2008, -0/+7I'm a firefigher. The "helicopters for tall building fires" idea is one that seems good. Until you think about the effects of the following:
a) Dropping TONS of a water on a compromised structure that was never desgined to have tons of water dropped on it all at once.
b) the downwind from the coper itself would push the fire deeper into the strcture
c) there's PEOPLE up there (firefighters) and you'd have to get them out
d) the danger of flying over a burning structure, including the possibility of smashing INTO the structure.
Helos are great for wildland and other terrestrial fires (tire fires, junkyard fires) but they are sub-optimal for highrise structures. - ddfall, on 01/26/2008, -0/+7I just looked at his profile. Damn, what a list. He's got WAY to much time on his hands and loves the idea of being popular. lol Nice honesty though. :D
- gdgi, on 01/26/2008, -2/+8the fact that this story is just showing up NOW and now, oh this morning when it was actually, um, NEWS is exactly why Digg needs to stick to the changes in their site algorithm and let the rest of the world post news that has a chance of hitting the front page. it's become obvious lately that Digg just isn't the place to go for 'news' - just recycling the same ***** that reddit & other sites made popular before.
Digg is very much a 'follower' now, not the leader that it once was. - agimat, on 01/26/2008, -0/+6Um, "A Filipino Housekeeping" more likely.
- spyd3rweb, on 01/26/2008, -1/+7Was there a wargame going on at the exact same time that held up all the firefighters?
- Herostratus, on 01/26/2008, -0/+6We dont need no water let the ***** burn!
- Butros, on 01/26/2008, -1/+6Yeah in the same neighborhood as Mandalay Bay, how cheap. You watched too much ocean's 11 my friend.
- inactive, on 01/26/2008, -3/+8The mob did it.
- ChrisTek, on 01/26/2008, -0/+5Well, not really. Also, it's the first time I've tried something retarded on Digg. But, it totally was NOT worth the twenty minutes it took out of my PHP-writing-happy-fun-time.
- Herostratus, on 01/26/2008, -2/+6Makes no money off the deal? Dude you better check your facts. Silverstein made billions literally off the deal. Stop talking out of your ass.
- stillasleep00, on 01/26/2008, -2/+6BREAKING: I watched this happen this morning.
- op12, on 01/26/2008, -0/+4Unless you are a table...or a chair. (He added that sometimes to the end of that joke)
