Mindblowing Panorama of New York City (PHOTO)
img170.imageshack.us — Huge (5186x500) panorama of NYC taken from Brooklyn. Probably one of the best depictions of a true mega-city.

http://img66.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nycpanoramavy6.jpg - berwiki, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3why wouldnt they finish the full 360?!?
its obvious by the fact the beginning of the photo should match the opposite side of the photo, except it doesnt. why only give 280 degrees of view? - TheGuy20, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Because it's a panorama of Manhattan not of Brooklyn. 360 would include Brooklyn as well.
- austindkelly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11What I find even more amazing is that even after 450+ diggs whatever server this is hosted on is still very responsive. If i could i would digg twice, once for the killer image and a second for the stable server and fat pipe.
- vexter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@tralala When you digg down users for pointless posts that add nothing to the conversation, you should also click that little lcon next to their name too add them too your block list as well. If you click on tralala and look at a couple of other comments of his, you will find he is adding nothing worthwhile to digg.
- simpleid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I actually did not know how big New York was exactly, how developed... this is IMMENSE. This really is pretty impressive to me, thanks a lot! Now I actually want to go there, I bet it's absolutely overwhelming to be in an area so dense.
I wonder now, how big Tokyo really is.... :
I should go travel more.... - skyshock21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Beryl Skydome image anyone? :)
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Here I am, sitting in the middle of that giant beautiful city... wasting time at work reading digg.
It's easier to see life on a computer screen I guess. Plus, the internet doesn't smell like pee. ;-) - AmnestyGenocide, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@quasipalm
neither does my nipple, but I do have to admit that storm drains do indeed work well to get rid of rain water on the streets. IMHO, of course. - tlgjames, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I enjoy Tokyo much more than NYC. Less pollution, and clean subways with comfortable seats with cushions not covered in piss and vomit.
- tarmithius, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@tlgjames
I was going to mention Tokyo myself. New York is nothing compared to the Mega City that is Tokyo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Largest_Metropolitan_Area
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megacity - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What's all this talk about pollution? New York has actually a low amount of air pollution. Check out this list -- there are 27 cities with worse pollution in the US, including smaller cities like Bakersfield:

http://digitalarts.mindsocket.com.au/tokyo_pano/ - diggumjonez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I recently took a quickie panorama of the seattle waterfront and put it on my website while I'm working on it. http://www.duringleaves.com/ if anyone wants to see a decent near-sunset pic of the skyline.
- missgoogler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Download and mirror (higher quality): http://host29.com/27
- Tetranitrate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My college (Polytechnic) is just to the left of the chase building on the far left of the photo. Going to college in Brooklyn is so much fun, who else can say they've smoked a joint on the Brooklyn Bridge in between classes.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am located 15 minutes away from where this was taken. This picture reminds me of looking out my window.
Now maybe you understand why with backyard views like this New Yorkers are so cynical. It takes something like a falling skyscraper to get our attention.
Ho hum.
- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31I think the (PHOTO) is redundant
- datsclark, on 10/12/2007, -8/+77Mind not blown.
- Guard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26I see... buildings. And water + bridge! OMG!
*mind blown* - LtCarter47, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7"Mind not blown"

- alex.will, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The (PHOTO) was to notify people that it was a direct link to an image.
- Coven, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The picture looks to have been taken from 1 Hanson Place (AKA Williamsburgh Savings Bank Building). An absolutely incredible image.

- rlh1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Kool tip. Looks like a city of the furture.

- dpcdomino, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Couldn't pick a clearer day to take the picture? Or maybe this was a clear day in NYC....
- Gwydion, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15zing!
- Coven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7yeah that's pretty much as clear as it gets 'round here
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We like our yellow skies.
- starvo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Beautiful pic. Chicago has it's own beautiful skyline, but it just doesn't compare to New York's.
- fishbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12That's funny... I remember actually being able to see the *sky* when I was in Chicago.
I would agree that NYC has a better smogline, though. - PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Quality over quantity (in defense of Chicago's skyline)
- PatrickX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I grew up near Chicago and now live in Manhattan so I can actually compare the two skylines. The Chicago skyline is pretty but it is nowhere near as massive as even just Manhattan's, where there are skyscrapers literally stretching for miles. The air in such a huge city obviously isn't perfect but this pic does make it look a lot worse than it is.
- fishbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12That's funny... I remember actually being able to see the *sky* when I was in Chicago.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Its amazing just how much the skyline misses the twin towers.
- 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8well don't worry... they're gonna have the "freedom tower" to replace them... gag me with a rubber ***** spoon... Should have rebuilt the towers only taller
- Absinthminded64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can see the cranes atop WTC 7 in this picture. I saw it going up and it looked like the first 2-3 floors were solid concrete!
- tralalaa, on 10/12/2007, -71/+7Where's the world trade center?!
NEVAR 4GET LOLZ!!!- wild, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I love the block user button.
- tralalaa, on 10/12/2007, -15/+0yeah, me too.
Consider yourself blocked! OMG - Veritate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I was in the WTC, tralalaa. I have friends -- a lot of friends -- who died there.
You're a clueless child, who really ought to stay away from such topics. - oskite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Err, tralalaa - you wouldn't happen to have ever been to ev-nova.net, would you?
- ThreeDee912, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Don't feed the trolls"
Blocked. And even if he/she/whatever (heh) is gonna respond with some dumb comment, I won't be able to read it anyway!
EDIT: I sort of fed the troll anyway...
- dfd29, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3too bad there's low clouds in the distance, still an awesome picture tho
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Looks more like pollution to me.
- Coven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4hop on a boat, go about 2 or 3 miles out to sea and look back at the city. on a clear day, you'll see a yellow-brown haze hanging over the metro area. it is absolutely disgusting. of course i'd never have it any other way. i love nyc
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I wouldn't call it mindblowing, but it is a nice pic.
- musters, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21That pic makes NY look ugly
- ashwinmudigonda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11WTF is mindblowing about it? Its an average pan stitched using a few pics. Its not even evenly exposed or interesting.
- Mand0lesi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I have a similar panoramic photo of Paris. It'd be nice to see all the major cities.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now there's an idea.
- kifler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Smog much?
- dpcdomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That is actual a trans fat and smoke deprived stress cloud.
- davidepp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1seriously. i've never been to NYC, however, my sister lives there in Queens so it's on my list of places to visit. I can't imagine having a rooftop apartment like that and actually enjoying that view of smog. granted, i live in West Virginia so I'm used to a little bit clearer skies.
- lox500, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I will have to agree with the above, I don't see much smog in WV.
- theOster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4prob don't see much of anything in WV...
- MadScientist420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, according to the WV state motto, WV is "Open for Business" so come back in a few years..Best State Motto/Slogan ever.
- strohs189, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can see a lot of your Cousins.
- davidepp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea.. i gotta say most of my friends, myself included, hate that "Open for Business" slogan..its awful. Especially heading into WV from VA on 64West there is the sign above the road with the new slogan emblazened on it. ugh.
- Huevoos, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16I prefer the Paris at night panoramic pic that was digged a while ago
http://digg.com/design/Huge_Paris_by_Night_Panoramic_Image_15_000_X_520_Pixels- Diancechet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3seconded
- FishFat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Thirded.
- flavorice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Needs about 2 more inches on the left to see me waving from my roof.
- donnydarko319, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Amazing image. I live in Brooklyn, and just about every panorama of New York is the Manhattan skyline, completely ignoring the other four boroughs.
P.S. That red radio tower on the right hand side of the pic is on top of my old high school, Brooklyn Tech. I knew it was tall, but geesh, it must be one of the tallest structures in Brooklyn.- Knice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I went to Tech too. The top of the radio tower is actually the tallest point in Brooklyn.
- Koray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me too. :)
- thesoze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i could almost see Jersey
- venicerocco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1My mind has been blown. Thank you.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ooh, let me do the same for the natural world where I was vacationing at Christ-day (Romero Canyon, the Catalinas in Arizona):
http://external.pathdaemon.com/catalinapano.jpg- truax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i actually didn't really read your comment and just clicked on the link and thought to myself...that really looks like the mountains near tucson..

- truax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i actually didn't really read your comment and just clicked on the link and thought to myself...that really looks like the mountains near tucson..
- VforMe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really beautiful one!
- CraigNobbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Eww... Look at that air pollution. Wouldn't want to breath that in.
- dehlz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Great pic, but I personally think Chicago's skyline is the best in the country (if not world)
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16...for me to poop on.
- jdanielcaldwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Chicago's just jealous
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16...for me to poop on.
- orbital2012, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3500 pixels tall!? mind-blowing? umm no.
- DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Awesome ... anyone ever flown over NYC at nighttime? Awesome.
- TheToecutter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7A nice picture, but hardly "mindblowing."
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Brooklyn represent!

- caliyankee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Big up BK!
- moosy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Nice picture, but not because of the subject matter. It's not a terribly flattering picture of NYC. Personally, I like San Francisco's skyline: http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1396/dscn5035ge8.jpg
- uselessexpert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Eh...ok...nice...
- Switchnig, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2paris is better
- ahhhrn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Would have been better if it had been taken in the early morning with the sun behind the photographer to avoid blowing out the entire left side of the shot. A night pic would have been awesome too.
- Blashhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like the photo, but it should have been taken on a more clear day.
- Coven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3people just don't get it. that IS a more clear day!
- pxa270, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Wikipedia has a better pic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:NYC_Top_of_the_Rock_Pano.jpg- nazsco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1bah, wikipedia. bet this is a rendering.
- lazlonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something is blown but it's not my mind. I erased the rest of how I felt.....
- vmxeo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I can see my house from here! (No really, it's just to the left of the Manhattan Bridge). Hey, I can see my Office building too...
- Stenosis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Nose blown.
- Jist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have an amazing photo of Venice that is about 180 degrees from the top of a 13 story cruise ship that is going down the Grand Canal. Maybe I should post that...
- urwifediggsme, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Great photo of a great city. It would even better without that giant hole in the ground. For that I say let the captured Al Qaeda scumbags rot in GITMO for a long time.
- raoulduke87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You can actually see the citi group building in Long Island City in that picture. I lived across the street from that monstrosity for quite some time. Queens Represent *****!!!
- sstriga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it was a cloudy day when this image was taken. i work in Manhattan and there are days where the sky is as blue as can be... the smog is never really visible.
- AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow! Who needs a (PHOTO) when you paint such a vivid image of New York City...
- justinm1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He's right. I don't know why everyone is getting on NYC for the smog. For a city this size, it's really pretty good, and on a brisk fall morning you can see for miles.
Check out Mexico City some time. Aye Carumba!
- nates, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Go to Sao Paulo sometime and tell me NYC is a "true mega-city"
- jdanielcaldwell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Come to New York and we'll mug you and your 'mega city' quotations.
- ChrisPinkus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Seriously? Has no one noticed that this is clearly around 9/11? That is NOT normal air quality for NYC.
- ahhhrn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's clearly not from 9/11. I can see the Bloomberg Tower in midtown which wasn't finished until '04.
- Oakley921, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great dual display wallpaper!
- meesterfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Can anyone say, "where's waldo?"
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hmmm, to live in the BIG CITY or Walden Pond?? http://photos.case.edu/photo/312.jpg
- jdanielcaldwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll bet they have ***** pizza at Walden Pond
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hear Walden Pond has a kick-ass club scene.
- sunimoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great photo, but I wouldn't say it's the best depiction of NYC. Most of the shot is showing Downtown Brooklyn and Queens, with Manhattan in a foggy background. A very well made shot, but not the best representation of New York.
If you are into photos of New York, check out this site: http://www.nycfoto.com/ (tons of candid New York shots; no panoramas, though). - agarc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Having recently moved to Manhattan, I have to say that this is definitely not the most flattering photo of NYC. However, it does give a good idea of its size. If you want a great view of the city from the ground, take a taxi from midtown (through the Midtown Tunnel). When you're outside of the tunnel, look behind and you get a pretty good view of the skyline. It's especially beautiful at dusk.
I also have to say that the air quality is not that bad. Manhattan really surprises me. We've had pretty amazing weather here so far this winter. There have been numerous days where the sky is crystal clear blue. Of course, if the photo was taken during the summer, the smog levels may have been higher.
Also, you can't compare the size of other cities to Manhattan... you have to also include the other boroughs. It really does make Chicago seem small. - JohnnieWalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Cool similar photo but in --- L o n d o n ---
- JohnnieWalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1duh! http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=270084387&size=l
