When an object falls it will descend at a set speed. If there is something in the way of the fall it offers resistance.
The buildings that collapsed were built with structural steel and concrete, and were built specifically to remain structurally sound. This material provides resistance.
When the towers fell they came down directly into the path of most resistance at close to free fall speed.
The official story gives no account of what removed the resistance.
