Local breaking news ,,, the remains of Staff Sergeant Matt Maupin have been found in Iraq. That announcement from the Yellow Ribbon Support Center. Maupin was captured near Baghdad when his convoy was attacked nearly four years ago.
The Batavia Native and Glen East High School graduate has not been found since. Shortly after his disappearance, this insurgent tape appeared from inside Iraq. Until today the Pentagon listed his status has remained captured missing.
His disappearance sparked a flood of local awareness for missing soldiers. Maupin's parents, Keith and Marilyn opened the yellow ribbon support center. They've met several times with leaders in Washington and launched efforts to find Matt's remains within Iraq. Matt Maupin would have been 24 years old in July.
