- ichbeineinrcg, on 04/26/2008, -3/+34I like scotch. I also like the Scotch, and Braveheart was a good movie. But mainly, I like scotch.

- JimmyDushku, on 04/26/2008, -5/+24No matter what happens with this deal, I'm still sticking to Google.
- AsSubtleAsABrik, on 04/26/2008, -2/+18I issue a theat to anyone sober rright now.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 04/26/2008, -3/+19Scotchy scotch scotch.
- kelly, on 04/26/2008, -4/+16If yahoo manages to ditch Microsoft's efforts and make MS look foolish in the process, I might switch from Google to Yahoo.
- kelly, on 04/26/2008, -7/+18I think its extremely arrogant that Microsoft thinks that Yahoo is working them for more money rather than the simply not want to be owned by Microsoft.
- Evolutuon, on 04/26/2008, -1/+11Yahoo needs to stand its ground.
- MalDON, on 04/26/2008, -0/+9How exactly will this help microsoft?
- smacksaw, on 04/26/2008, -1/+9I love how they say that Yahoo doesn't have a lot of options or alternatives. Umm...seems obvious to me they continue on as if they were a sovereign company.
It's not like they're going to expire if they don't partner with someone. They're doing fine solo right now. - GothAlice, on 04/26/2008, -0/+7Umbrella Corp. It's called Umbrella Corp.
- gcnaddict, on 04/26/2008, -10/+17Actually, it's a standard business practice. Microsoft gave a stupidly high value per share (4x if I recall correctly) and yahoo said it was undervalued in order to squeeze a higher bid and thus, more demand for stock (and yet another stock boost as a result). If it wasn't for the bid, yahoo wouldn't have risen to where it is now, and now they're saying Microsoft is undervaluing them?
It's a money ploy. - FredSanford, on 04/26/2008, -1/+8I'm not sure what kind of threat this is. It's pretty clear that Yahoo doesn't want to be taken over by Microsoft.
- dechah, on 04/26/2008, -0/+7They will add their biological and technological distinctiveness to their own. Yahoo's culture will adapt to service Microsoft. Resistance is futile
- KMartSheriff, on 04/26/2008, -1/+7Scotch in my belly.
- mikelieman, on 04/26/2008, -0/+6You wanna see crappy performance? Wait until after MSFT buys them, and trashes them...
MSFT hasn't done *one* thing online right yet. The *only* thing they can do is dilute Yahoo's value. - TheSpook, on 04/26/2008, -1/+7Bah, Google is THE search engine. Yahoo has some nice apps though.
- santaliqueur, on 04/26/2008, -0/+6CFOcat?
- Myztry, on 04/26/2008, -2/+7Microsoft really don't want a hostile takeover attempt. They could blow their cash reserves and still not get a controlling interest. The value of yahoo is near irrelevant. It's the market position they want, and the leverage that provides. Without controlling interest, they have no leverage, without is the only tool useful for otherwise inept Microsoft.
Microsoft could simply drop the takeover idea, but to do so would leave them out of the top two, and since all markets solidify to a dominate player and dominant competitor, it would be forever. Yahoo might not be worth the asking price now, but soon enough they will far exceed it.
If Microsoft starts going hostile, the Yahoo shareholders should jack up their asking price. Microsoft doesn't want an investment slice. They want the whole pie. The need it!
If Microsoft spent massive amounts of money in an obsessive compulsive acquisition attempt, yet still failed to gain control, it would be the best thing to happen in the computer industry in the last quarter of a century. It's well past time the stand-over merchants took a fall... - binaryloop, on 04/26/2008, -0/+5The deal doesn't make any sense anyway. I hate to see a good company like Yahoo get destroyed by Microsoft. Doesn't anyone else think that a "hostile takeover" is wrong? (Especially in light of the fact that MSFT has been found to be a monopoly ?) Something needs to be done to stop this barbaric behavior. Swooping down, buying everything, and raping and plundering is wrong.
- Binzokun, on 04/26/2008, -0/+5"Speed is of the essence for the deal to make sense,"
goes to show you how much of an impulse buy this is.
Why on Earth would Yahoo sell itself over a ~15% increase in its current stock price? MS needs to cough up more money cause they're not getting Yahoo for $31
Meanwhile, Google is laughing its ass off. - GliTCH82, on 04/26/2008, -2/+7Seriously, what the ***** is Microsoft going to do with Yahoo? Yahoo Live Messenger? I know Yahoo has decent ad profits but they're not even a 2nd rate Google, they're just a tick above MSN. Except, I actually know more people who use WLM than people who use YM, so what the *****.
- FredSanford, on 04/26/2008, -1/+6Actually, you don't recall correctly. An offer of 4x current Yahoo value would be well over $100 per share. This stuff isn't hard to look up online.
It's fine that you have an opinion, but maybe you should consider having an informed opinion. - HaloZero, on 04/26/2008, -0/+5First my food get consolidated (damn you KRAFT!) then my soap/deodarant (damn you Johnson and Johnson), then my media (How dare you News Corp?). I'm waiting for the giant monolithic Everything Inc that owns everything
- sparrowkc, on 04/26/2008, -2/+6Scotch.
- gcnaddict, on 04/26/2008, -1/+5Communities. Yahoo knows how to maintain online properties which it acquired (flickr, anyone?). Plus, Yahoo is still a huge name in many non-American markets.
- pigtown, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4Do you threaten to Scotch them? As I am far too sober at the moment and could use a good scotching.
- YodaJones, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Microsoft please go home and make something useful and save your money. Or here's a crazy concept... Give some money back to your investors.
- czeman, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Yahoo's homepage is bloated enough as it is. Can you imagine what will happen to it if Microsoft takes over? *****!!!
- 4d669, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4Steve Ballmer would own you in a fight to the death if he suddenly appeared in your room and you don't agree to develop for MS.
- pigtown, on 04/26/2008, -2/+5I prefer Irish Whiskey to Scotch Whisky. They did it first, they still do it better, and they do it in less time.
That being said, I really like Scotch Whisky. - thailand1972, on 04/26/2008, -3/+6Scotch? I prefer whisky.
- 4d669, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3So Google will have babies in the end? AWESOME!
- breadfred, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Man, make up your mind.
- Cryoniq, on 04/26/2008, -2/+5Pretty obvious to me that Microsoft need to be put down to rest when they behave like this. Hopefully it will start to happen very soon, before they decide they want to take over medicial organisations/companies, and when they are refused they threat with hostile takeovers.
- Jenadae, on 04/26/2008, -3/+6actually if you took a second and looked at the article you'd realize that they are only offering 4 dollars more per share, which now that their threats have made their stock plummet more then 5% they can't even offer that anymore.
- Jenadae, on 04/26/2008, -3/+5Lol, i love how they have still made no note of what google has in store if they think this is really gonna happen...
- Enron1985, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2And then Microsoft will try to eat them.
- thomasprebble, on 04/26/2008, -5/+7I don't care what MS do. Google is king.
- niceyuk, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Exactly, two losers doesnt = 1 winner.
- wdr1, on 04/26/2008, -1/+3Actually... well, actually, I have nothing to say. I just wanted to join a long thread where everyone felt the obligation to open with the same word & finish with the same condescension.
- thailand1972, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2Scotch Whisky? I think (given you've said "Irish whiskey") you mean Scottish whisky. Scotch is American for "whisky", it's not an adjective to mean "from Scotland".
- Myztry, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2What he says makes sense. He really likes scotch, but he really really (prefers) likes Irish whiskey.
- thailand1972, on 04/26/2008, -3/+4Wow, you're so underground with your alt views.
- Spoomeister, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1One second, I speak Microsoft... let me translate...
MSFT: "We want to buy Yahoo."
English: "We have no ***** clue what we're doing with Windows Live Search, or Windows Live in general. Never have." - kelly, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1No, social creationism.
- Wakuko, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1On the rocks!
- wdr1, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2Errr, not really. Microsoft already has a huge name known in may households (American & otherwise).
What Microsoft doesn't have -- and what Yahoo does -- is a very large advertiser pool. The only other one even close is Google's. Why is that important? Well, the dominant forms of web advertising, such as sponsored search results, rely heavily on CPC. Just like any auction, the more bidders, the higher the CPCs tend to be. - bobbyi, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1tape
