foxnews.com — Mexican press attache is caught on Secret Service camera pocketing several White House BlackBerries at recent SPP meeting in New Orleans. Gives a whole new meaning to Security and Prosperity, and emphasises Calderon's worry about 'backwardness' in the Parthnership. Why worry about illegals when the diplomats are illegal?

The Secret Service must have established that there was nothing important on them, otherwise I dont think his line of "diplomatic immunity" would have been sufficient. If you are caught stealing sensitive information, I don't think you're a diplomat or immune anymore.

      Kind of disappointed in the Secret Service. Thats a pretty big loophole. And all the way to the airport?

        In the CIA, there are two types of agents: Official Cover and Non-Official Cover. Official cover agents don't have to worry about being incarcerated for their spying, as they are operating under embassay auspices and have diplomatic immunity. Non-official cover agents are at risk of being arrested, tried and even executed for spying activities (and can even be tried in the US for violating our laws while doing their spying, though I suppose even official cover agents face that risk).

        We deported many Russian embassy officials during the cold war for known cases of spying. The Russians did the same to many of our embassy officials in Moscow.

        So yeah, if it was for gaining an advantage in negotiations, I suppose low-level espionage is the best way to call it.

        Had he been even remotely knowledgeable of technology, he would have done better trying to use his blackberry to find any of the others that had an active bluetooth signal that he could then use to sneak into the blackberries without anyone ever knowing he had done anything.

        If you got into a courthouse or any sort of government building, or even to get on an airplane, you'll empty your pockets of all your money, your cell phone, and put them in a plastic bin and hand it to some guy who probably can barely make ends meet.

        These people are leaving their cell phones in an area where only other officials who presumably have security clearances have access, and where there is supposedly all kinds of security.

        I could see a group of employees leaving their cell phones on a table outside a conference room in their own building, knowing that only fellow employees are able to even be in the building.

        It is definitely a little bit of "blind faith", but not unusual in such a delusional world.
