- Stevanoski, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5I want the death penalty to be a factor in our legal system for this reason: How many children's/women's bodies are found when the defendant wants to avoid the DP and works a deal.
Is it a deterrent? Only in the fact that that person will never kill again.
Maybe it's true value is that it shows how much we value life. That the supreme penalty for taking one is yours must be forfeited. - THEROD54, on 08/11/2008, -0/+4How well I remember when this happened. One of the seven did the right thing and killed himself. The others should have done the same thing, save me some tax money.
- internetcoward, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1if you are worried about saving money, the death penalty actually costs more than to keep them in jail for life.

- tasine, on 08/11/2008, -1/+1The death penalty is a deterrent only in that that person will probably never kill again, so I agree it is needed in the legal system. The down side is that a hot shot D.A.s gets excited about a case and the name it can make for him and assure him advancement; hence I believe many cases are not adequately or honestly investigated and as a result sometimes the wrong person gets incarcerated and tried, and some get sentenced to death. This is not right. BUT, the death penalty isn't the problem. The problem is with over-zealous investigators and prosecutors who see THE PRESIDENCY when they look in the mirror. Our legal system severely needs an overhaul. It is truly unfortunate that the legal system apparently seems to attract mostly people with no integrity or honesty, the same ones who go on to become Senators, Presidents, etc. And, it could be said that this man finally did the right thing in welcoming his death, but actually that dog doesn't hunt for me. I think he's just laying the grounds for people to rally for Governor Perry to issue a stay of execution.

- internetcoward, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1wait what smitty??? makes no sense.
- smittyme, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1The only reason it cost more to put someone to death than to keep them in prison for life is because their are too many avenues for appeals!
The money spent to put someone to death is not spent "putting them to death"...it is spent in the courtrooms!!!
I typed this very slowly...you should be able to keep up!
