Materazzi's Previous Work (Guy who provoked Zidane)
youtube.com — Tired of watching Zidane's headbutt clip over and over? Here's a clip of some of Materazzi's work (the Italian player).
- 475 diggs
- digg it
- legendary, on 10/12/2007, -13/+40looks to me Materazzi deserved it
- Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17it hasn't gotten old yet.

this one is beter XD - Packard, on 10/12/2007, -20/+17Zizou...we still love him, we still respect him, we just feel so sad that such a breath taking carer had to end that way for him.
Materazzi I hope you never play football for the rest of your life for what ever you said to Zizou. - sithvicious, on 10/12/2007, -13/+13hey your beloved Zidane has gotten red cards for headbutting before. He is not a saint like you make him out to be.
- tommasig, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12Hey guys, looks like words hurt more than kicks or headbutts...
You all look so impatient to cover Materazzi with dirt, but yesterday i only saw one man using violence on the field, and you ?
I never liked Materazzi as soccer player, though... i think he shouldn't play at all, but please be focused on what happened yesterday, and not months ago.
Pointless. - gookie, on 10/12/2007, -13/+14This digg is really uncalled for.
You can't undo what Zidane did yesterday (no matter how harsh Materazzi's words have been, it always happen in the field).
If this is your way of easing the pain of losing, then so be it. It's just pathetic to see people digging other people's dirt to cover up your own dirt.
Pathetic. - Braamer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11I have a hypothesis.
Zidane, and Materazzi were actually involved romantically, and Zidane, taking his cues from this rather popular webpage: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=manly_suicide decided to end his failing relationship and his successful career, with this guidance of this passage:
"Headbutting is probably the manliest thing ever. Not only is it useful for suicide, it's also a great way to break up with your girlfriend. For example, I couldn't find the words to tell my ex that our relationship was over, so one day while we were watching TV I headbutt her in the *****. Then I picked up my jacket and left. No awkward goodbyes, no "still friends" *****. Just a couple of bruised titties and a failed relationship. I rule." -Maddox
The brilliance behind this is that he not only ended his relationship without any *****, but he did so using this method described as "....probably the manliest thing ever." In front of an audience to the tune of 1 BILLION people. That is approximately 1/6 of the population of the entire planet.
Argue all you want about the state of football today, and about disgrace, and justification, but if you take a step back from all that, it becomes clear. Zidane will now go down in history for a pile driving headbutt to the chest, that dropped Materazzi like a sack of potatos, IN ADDITION TO his extremely successful career. France may have lost, but Zidane won. - Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"this one is beter XD"
There's a ytmnd: http://francefighter.ytmnd.com/ - Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Someone should put together a similar video containing some of Zidane's fouls. Don't forget the stomping of Saudi captain Fuad Amin in the 98 world cup. Or the headbutting of Hamburg's Jochen Kientz in a Champions League match. Materazzi is a dirty player, but don't fool yourself into thinking Zidane's horrible foul was a one time thing.
- Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17it hasn't gotten old yet.
- steeel, on 10/12/2007, -17/+51What a dirty player. Zidane should have aimed at the face not his chest.
- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -14/+16Yeah...well unfortunately its the way the Italians play. Shrug. It's a bad world cup, we got knocked out..
- Chongo, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3I keep seeing things like "Good way to end a career". So when you do something like that you get kicked off the team?
- chimona, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16He's retiring.
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4He said this was his last match
- 1c3d0g, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That shows just how much Chongo knows about football...next time make an informed comment or keep your mouth shut.
- dumpty, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19I really don't think he deserved it. There's supposed to be foul talk between the players, no?
The headbutt sure was fun to watch, though.- steeel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Yeah foul talk for sure, but no purple nurples. He deserved it.
- minoss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43That video is missing a viscous elbow he gave to another player:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gyu8W1g2co- nox327, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3wow, all that blood.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Does this guy have razors in his elbows?
- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"wow, all that blood."
You've never seen a cut on the brow or a blood nose, have you? It bleeds far in excess of the injury. - dairylee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I remember that elbow against Sorin, I was actually disgusted with what he did.
I don't even think Materazzi picked up a ban for it either.
- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -23/+16So what Soccer (football) is a physical game! People slide tackle each other all the time, free kicks and cards awarded.
Materazzi plays rough, its an attribute to his game. Im sure he intimidates some people and good for him
Zidane's headbutt was even during play, it had nothing to do with the ball, it was unsportmanslike and pathetic.
You could compile this kind of footage for lots of people, doesnt prove anything- steeel, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18Materazzi almost pulled froggy's nipple right off... that also had nothing to do with the ball.
- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -15/+20watch the replay... Zidane doesnt even flinch during the so called "nipple twist", so obviously it didnt hurt him very much
Try to rationalize Zidane's actions is ridiculous
FIFA is Embarressed
France is Embarressed
Zidane should be Embarrassed, i bet we'll see a public Apology in the next few days - rumor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21so him deliberately kicking people in the groin, face, etc. or while they are on the ground isn't unsportsmanlike? GIve me a break.
also check out minoss's link as well. - imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -17/+7no its also unsportmanlike but its a part of the game. levelling someone for trash talking is ridiculous
- steeel, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18Materazzi almost pulled froggy's nipple right off... that also had nothing to do with the ball.
- eyeaml337, on 10/12/2007, -24/+27what the ***** is your point? Anyone can take and cut up fouls and red card footage and put it together to make someone look like an *****! Are you some angry french trying to justify your player attacking another for no reason what so ever. Zidane ruined himself today. Instead of going out as the great player he is the world will remember him for a headbutt to the chest. If he had simply kept his cool france could have won. The penalty kick that was missed would have been Zidane's spot. So go cry about it frenchy.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11I do have to agree with you, they won, as dirty as they played, other teams also do it.
- bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14Not at all a France fan, but "for no reason whatsoever"? You clearly didn't watch the game, so I'd suggest you refrain from commenting further.
- nox327, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19no, zidane would have been first or last, so Trezeguet would have still missed. No, this will not change Zidans accomplishments and his legacy will live on as being the best player in recent years. This will only make him more famous (you know what they say about publicity).
My theory is that ZIdane wanted to go out with a bang, and that's what he did. He is still the greatest, todays actions don't change anything. - attractivetb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14@nox327
"Zidane wanted to go out with a bang"
Nice theory. Here's mne: Zidane lost his temper and was goaded into doing something incredibly stupid which arguably cost his team the World Cup.
He will be remembered as a great footballer, but make no mistake, he will also be remembered for this ugly incident. - nox327, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Maradona is remembered for scoring the goal with his hand and for drugs, but didn't destroy his name, nor will this. People, average people will know who he is now.
- attractivetb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@nox327
There is a fundamental difference between the "Hand of God" goal and this incident...the Maradonna handball led to Argentina's victory....this incident (arguably) led France to defeat. - nox327, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7that's true
I guess to make it sound good for zidane, we just have to give this incident a name, how about the "headbutt of god" or the "head of god" something like that :)
- Helicobacter, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14I agree: Materazzi provoked him. I've read with comments like "deliquent" and "animal"
- felyduw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Are you insane? I'm not Italian nor french but I know football. Materazzi may be a rough defender and brutal in some occasions but nothing he might've said could justify what Zidane did. It's not Materazzi's fault Zidane hit him. Zidane lost his temper, there's nothing new about it, but this time he wasn't cynical at all about the way he enacted revenge. Zidane may've been one of the greatest in the last decade but he'll unfortunately be remembered by this little accident by most.
- Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2... your point being?
I insult you, you pick up a gun and shoot me.
You'll be arrested and all what you'll be able to say is that "He said that I was an idiot".
The judge looks you, smiles and says "Then? What else?"
When anything more emerges, the judge strikes his hammer and judges you
- - - G U I LT Y - - -
Totti Vs Norway spit on a player for a foul that his opponent made and got expelled. He didn't attacked phisically. He spit, an immoral behavior.
Zidane instead attacked phisically Materazzi. He had to be expelled too.
Case closed.
- jwegan, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4All I saw in that video was a guy playing aggressive professional football. At least every clip shown he was around the ball and not taking out some random guy away from the play.
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Watch it again. Kicking people in the back is not professional football. Grinding your cleats on someones calf from behind isn't either. That wasn't a just happened thing both players were stopped in the corner.
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -17/+12It'll be a golden day when Materazzi get's beat to within an inch of his life, along with the rest of the 2006 World Cup Italian team.
- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2please read the comment above to understand the people who justify Zidane's actions
idiot - Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4There's a difference between playing aggressively and actively trying to instigate and injure somebody. (Not to mention taking dives left and right)
- XxN3RDC0R3xX, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7Your comment isn't even funny or slightly reasonable, it's just stupid.
- Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is a day that will come. Maybe.
But for now... celebrate with us the victory of Italy in the 2006 World Cup :D
- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2please read the comment above to understand the people who justify Zidane's actions
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -38/+4When I read Zidane, I thought http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_9 A little more context in stories submitted to Digg, please!
- goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21hackwrench:
"Zidane", "Materazzi", "headbutt", "Italian player", are in the story title and description. It's sufficient context. If you don't understand a story, you should do your own homework on it. It's not the story submitter's job to babysit you. - mzkw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@hackwrench:
You make me sick. - Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL at your soccer ignorance :)
- tuhn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL, are you serious? Yours is funniest on this thread :))
- Dsm0nd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What are you? American? (No offense, just kidding, but.. for God's Sake!!!!! )
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Not only am I an American, I have no interest in spectator sports.
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1This shouldn't be in world news, it should be in entertainment, celebrity.
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2'"Zidane", "Materazzi", "headbutt", "Italian player", are in the story title and description. It's sufficient context. '
No it's not. Within the context of FF IX, Italian player could very well mean someone playing FF IX. "Zidane's headbutt clip" could refer to an animation of the fictional character doing a headbutt. "Materazzi's work" could refer to some nice FF IX related fan art or in game play or something.. - rory3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2roflol! you sir are a bigger nerd than I am. Even I watched the final after not watching any other games etc... Even if I hadn't I at least knew that it was happening and that Zidane is a soccer player...
- Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"No it's not. Within the context of FF IX, Italian player could very well mean someone playing FF IX. Ok, that's enough mirror climbing for today :)
- goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21hackwrench:
- wilipuk, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8There's nothing wrong with a good headbutt once in a while. Let's all just be happy that the world cup of Grass Diving is over for another 4 years.
- daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Yes, I agree. Thanks for posting this! I don't follow soccer so Zidane pretty much looked like a real piece of ***** from that headbutt. This gives me the proper context to which that happened.
- felyduw, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Zidane WAS a piece of ***** in that headbutt as well as Materazzi is a piece of ***** in every aggression he's every commited specially that one against sorin.
- hoyaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Materrazi is the on italian who provides the stereotype of ugly brutish thugs interested only in greed. Call him scarface, except that there are other players with actual scars who try more valiantly.
Zidane's foul was obviously uncalled for, but in the Nietzcheien sense, Matterazi got exactly what he deserved on that play. I was rooting for Italy before the game satrted, but as it progressed, the French really did outplay them, and it's shame that the Cup ended in this fashion, Iago overthrowing Othello and all.
At least no one the stands started a brawl. - bluetuesday, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Soccer is a very physical game...you can take the nicest guy in the world and edit footage to make him look like a blood-thirsty demon on the pitch.
- goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Zidane obviously aimed at the chest so as not to do damage, and it couldn't have hurt much. Of course that didn't stop Materazzi from rolling around on the ground until the referee ran over.
Zidane shouldn't have done it, sure, but it's still ***** for the referee to give the red when he didn't even see anything. Elizondo hardly called anything for the first 100 minutes, and to then suddenly rely on the fourth official's eyes to give Zidane a red is ridiculous.
Where was the fourth official during the rest of the game? Or for that matter, the rest of the tournament?- EvilDr.X, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Can I headbutt you in the chest, just to see how much it would hurt?
- goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8EvilDr.X:
Keep in mind that Materazzi is a professional soccer player. He doesn't have a wimp-ass chest like yours. The only place that could hurt less is perhaps Materazzi's ass. I suppose you think that would really hurt too? - EvilDr.X, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12I don't know. Should I headbutt you in the ass, too, just to see?
:P - goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm sure that would just make your day.
- EvilDr.X, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6lol
I don't really give two ***** about soccer, mind you. It's just since I've seen that video, I've asked about 6 people if I could headbutt them in the chest. I really don't know if it would hurt or not, but so far, everyone has declined. My guess is at the very least it would be uncomfortable.
I'm not sure what my wimp ass chest has to do with it, either. It's my head I'm worried about. I should probably wear a helmet. - fluffyturtle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Can I headbutt you in the chest, just to see how much it would hurt?"
How is a person supposed to respond? Sure come on over, you will probably have to take a plane to get here but here is my address.
Honestly though being head butt in the chest isn't that painful. In fact it really doesn't hurt at all unless you get the wind knocked out of you, that is really the only risk.
Pound on your chest with your fist. Your chest flexes nicely, now pound just as hard on your face and see the difference.
Also soccer players over emphasize the pain for the obvious reasons. Someone getting kicked in the groin or elbowed in the face so hard they cut the skin can roll on the ground all they want. - SenatorPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10goodoldharris:
Also, keep in mind that Zidane isn't a wimpy headbutter. A large part of the sport is smashing your forehead into a ball moving very quickly at your face. Zidane is a professional headbutter. When a professional headbutter beats you down with their face, it hurts. I dont care if you have a sternum of steel, there will be a good deal of pain. - EvilDr.X, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Pound on your chest with your fist. Your chest flexes nicely, now pound just as hard on your face and see the difference."
Great, now I have a nosebleed. Thanks. - felyduw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2He headbutted him in the chest because he couldn't reach his head. Materazzi is way taller than Zidane is.
- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Keep in mind that Materazzi is a professional soccer player. He doesn't have a wimp-ass chest like yours. The only place that could hurt less is perhaps Materazzi's ass. I suppose you think that would really hurt too?"
It wouldn't surprise me if Matarazzi has a 'glass jaw'. It's just typical that a player who feels the need to malisciously wound other players would in fact be a spineless coward off the pitch.
- thadjudkins, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6You know how you can always spot someone who doesn't have anything to back up an arguement? They resort to ad hominem attacks. Materazzi's a dirty player and always has been. Italy played a dirty world cup and I'm sorry they won (I'm sure that it wasn't a mistake by anymeans, don't get me wrong, it was a strategy). I hope that FIFA realizes that allowing teams to play like they do doesn't do anyone any good and that they can do something to prevent it in the future.
/thad- felyduw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4On the other hand France was awarded two penalty kicks which were non-existent, players took a dive, in the world cup against Portugal and on the final against Italy. Italy got one against Australia. They both got a nudge by the referees at some point.
- daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11*goes back to watching the Zidane headbutt over and over again which creates a nice, warm fuzzy feeling in the stomach*
- elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You know he meant to do ALL those things because he doesn't even look surprised he's getting the card. If it was an accident he'd look surprised and try to explain it to the ref. Crazy bastard.
- ccreddy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Hes a sorry excuse for a human being. Hes headbutted, elbowed, kicked and close to dropkicked several players in innumerable matches. He is the kind of scum that scum would be embarrassed to be seen with. I dont care about zidane but as a player this materazzi is the worst kind of non professional. Fifa should review his tapes and kick him out of the game. In fact id be damn happy if some of the players sued him for assault. In one such incident he very very clearly elbows another player right in the nose and draws a huge amount of blood. Search for materazzi on youtube you will NOT believe your eyes. Inexcusable piece of crap is what matarazzi is. Enjoy your victory Italy but theres no way you are the champions. The night belonged to the professionals. You can go back to playing your rowdy street soccer but you wont get any respect from fans of the game. In fact, this fan of the game has a few good ideas about where you can put that trophy. And NO it aint in a trophy case.
- Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6"Enjoy your victory Italy but theres no way you are the champions. The night belonged to the professionals."
Shhh shhh baby, don't cry! Mommy's coming with the milk for you :)
Last time, Italy played better than France, still they've lost.
This time, France played better than Italy, still they've won.
It equals out.
Plus, Materazzi > Zidane. He scored with his head, Zidane just plain failed :D - Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Now I know why paparazzi is an Italian word.
- tommasig, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1To osjpr:
Have you ever eaten pizza before ? Or spaghetti ? Ever played Mario Bros. before ?
Why are you so easily going against italians, when you see a single italian behaving bad ?
- Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6"Enjoy your victory Italy but theres no way you are the champions. The night belonged to the professionals."
- jsilva, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2>:( Materazzi
- kentaromiura, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Show me a foul Materazzi did in this tournament.
You can say what you want, i never like Materazzi, but this year he play nice.
There is no matter, no offense, ever the worst to justificate Zidane reaction.
Sorry for my english.
Ps.Italy?Oui!are the champions, my friends! - richiestang78, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3I hate soccer and it even makes me mad to see someone play that dirty.
- MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I'm not condoning what Zidane did, but players like Materazzi really don't give the game a good name.
- Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3So this guy is the Bruce Bowen of soccer.
- mmgm, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9This isn't about Materazzi! You don't headbutt people during football matches, period. So he's an idiot, why should that give Zidane immunity?
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Did you watch the video before commenting? There's a lot more you shouldn't do during football matches apparently.
- mmgm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7And I hope Materazzi got a red card for every single one of them, just like Zidane got his. This is still no defense for Zidane.
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Did you watch the video before commenting? There's a lot more you shouldn't do during football matches apparently.
- JTMON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5well I guarantee that set materazzi back a bit. A hit that hard to the chest usually stops your heart for a second. Very unnerving feeling, nothing like when u sneeze at all.
- OropheR, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5You know what guys? for all these obvious unpunished aggressions this materazzi made on other players, Zidane really did the right things. All the players he aggressed must be feeling some kind of relief now and really thank Zidane for this.
- bnitro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Zidane should of ran out from the back with a chair hitting everything that moved and then smashed the cup over Materazzi wwe style, would've been an awesome way to be remembered
- nuhrd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4How many of these scenes of Materazzi's "brutality" are from the '06 World Cup FInal? Zero. All from League play. Hockey has goons, ever consider that pro football has the same? Regardless he was only playing because Italy's best skilled defender (Nesta) was injured. The benefit to choosing him over another sub is his height as evidenced by the header he scored. His drawback is his footwork as seen on the foul he commited in the penalty area. These comments seem to express frustration on the part of French fans rather than some objective criticism. Has anyone pointed out all the flying elbows from the French side during that match? Or the fact that someone watching football for the first time might conclude that Zidane is a dirty player after the stunt he pulled? Please realize that your own personal perspective will affect your judgement.
- PradaPete, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3LOL, Materazzi is not the only example for Italy's dirty play...look at what Gattuso does all the time...he should get a red in the first 5 mins. of basically every match he's in. But somehow, he doesn't. I wonder how expensive it is to get that status from Fifa?
Also Zidane will always be remembered as the greatest player of the last 25 years. That incident will take nothing away from it. Actually, everybody I was talking to said that "finally" someone stood up against the fascist taunting and it takes a real man to do thatin a world cup final. People will start to ask questions now, because Zizou is not easily aggravated.
- PradaPete, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I can fully understand Zidane. There are things (like honor) which are worth a thousand times more than winning a world cup (which takes place every 4 years anyway. He did the right thing, it's just sad that Materazzi will probably feel pain for a long time, it was just a light headbutt to his chest. He deserved the lung ripped out of his body for all the fould he commits. That and the fact that italian football is a mixture of corruptness and fascism....
Italy seems to get away with buying this WC - remember the overtime penalty against AUS, the italy-induced banning of Frings (with whom Germany would have progressed), and so on and so on.
It's a sad day for football. Now go and party alone, Italians, nobody likes you ;-)- Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"the italy-induced banning of Frings (with whom Germany would have progressed)"
What the... how did you... HEY! YOU ARE THE ONE WHO STOLE MY EIGHT BALL! GIVE IT BACK! - IppatsuMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"He deserved the lung ripped out of his body for all the fould he commits."
Aaaww, it's so good to see that sporting spirit is still alive.
Materazzi played a clean match (THIS match, Materazzi is a rude player) --> He's an a$$hole anyway
Zidane headbutts him --> Materazzi deserved it
Sorry, I don't get it.
- Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"the italy-induced banning of Frings (with whom Germany would have progressed)"
- Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Zidane should have waited out in the parking lot and then beat the pulp out of him.
- conjuror1972, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Zidane's a brilliant player who did a very stupid thing at the worst possible time.
Please don't comment if the only football you've ever watched is the above video.
Forza Azzuri, Forza Italia. Campione del Mondo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Hedgefox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Cry me a river, French guys, I'll gladly piss in it :)
French players gave so many elbows hits on the italian players during the match and the referee didn't say nothing.
That red card is the sum of all the aggressiveness of the french players.- Altesse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, right, like italian players don't show aggressiveness on the field.
I pity you. You must live in an underdeveloped country whose sole entertainments are TV and France bashing, maybe...
- Altesse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, right, like italian players don't show aggressiveness on the field.
- Llan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3What is this doing in WORLD NEWS?? We have a Video section, so take your idiotic whining there...
- daigakuinsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does the fact that the game was watched by an estimated ONE BILLION people mean anything?
- daigakuinsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does the fact that the game was watched by an estimated ONE BILLION people mean anything?
- tugaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5What?!!? This guy was on the FINAL match, on it's final GAME, beeing watched by HUNDREDS of MILLIONS, and invested like a stupid selvatic bull?!??!
How many neurons can this droid have? He burried the team and show the world how stupid can a human be. RIP! - dergachoff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/ryzhaya_anni/zidane2.gif
- SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm not for a moment going to try and defende Zidane - his behaviour was nothing sdhort of disgusting, on any football field, nevermind the World Cup Final - way to end your career, idot!
I will say though that Materazzi has always had a reputation for foul play - as that video illustrates. Italian defence players are sometimes like this sadly, becuase they think they can make up what they lack in strength by physically attacking the opposition players. - SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2God damn it - my edit time ran out!
I was saying... This illustrates why A) I hate italian football and B) BIG changes need to be made in football. These overpaid arogant players think they are gods and can escape a murder with a warning. It's got to change before the whole game is burried by it's foul reputation. - kdehead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1does anyone know *why* zidane headbutted him? any news on that?
- kdehead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i did a quick blogsearch, and the rumour flying around is that Materazzi called Zidane a terrorist.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Materazzi is one dirty player, but Zidane should have known better. And it's not the first time Zidane gives a headbutt.
- Omar12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Too sad the way Zidane concluded his International career, sure he was tired and frustrated, but he would have made the difference at the end and France may have won. Still, that does not take away how good a player is.
I guess the headbutt was a statement that he wanted to leave before leaving. - IbnDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2big up for Zidane, always my Hero! Anyone calls me a terrorist, they have better expect the same
- PsychTouch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Materazzi is not mr. fair play but either Zidane is new to this kind of things.
- beckenbauer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Referring to FIFA's Article 55
" In March this year, it was decided that article 55 would be rewritten to allow incidents of racism to be punished with points deductions or even disqualification from a tournament."
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060605/1/749q.html
"
In order to complete the agreed revision to article 55 of the Disciplinary Code so as to take a firmer stance against discrimination and comply with the accepted legal principle regarding extent of guilt, the executive supported the addition of a fifth paragraph to the article that allows for sanctions to be reduced if a transgression has been wilfully provoked in order to cause detriment to an individual, a club or an association. In March this year, it was decided that article 55 would be rewritten to allow incidents of racism to be punished with points deductions or even disqualification from a tournament. "

- SpencerMc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Am I the only one that doesn't think this is really that huge of a deal? Admittedly, I don't follow soccer, but much more involved fights occur in other sports fairly frequently, and when looking back on them in retrospect, if mentioned at all, it is usually with a touch of humor. I wasn't particularly rooting for either team, but I know when I saw the head butt, I laughed and said "That was awesome!". Ah, well. I'm American. Perhaps I just don't treat soccer with the reverence it deserves.
- sonicdeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Zidane is still my hero! I'm sure in weeks time as Zidane's agent has said. He will tell us what happened. I'm sure it's more of the same old European racial $hI$. Racism is so 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s!
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You know whats the worst thing? This was made a week before the Zidane episode. Materazzi has been a criminal and always will be one.
- minimidgy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0first off, materazzi looks like an aggressive player, which isn't right. But to say that materazzi is scum is just uncalled for. It's not like materazzi purposely committed all of those fouls.
Oh, and why does everybody hate the Italians?- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"It's not like materazzi purposely committed all of those fouls."
Hahaha.
"It's not like I purposely shot the guy!" -Rich Cheney
