Mata Hari of Al Qaeda Captured in Afghanistan
abcnews.go.com — Arrested in Afghanistan last month, Aafia Siddique possessed maps of New York, a list of targets including the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the subway system and the animal disease center on Plum Island, detailed chemical, biological and radiological weapon information and a thumb drive packed with emails.

- Troika37, on 08/13/2008, -1/+9The apologists will tell us she's just another misunderstood islamic jihadist killer. I'm sure Rosie or some other dumb actor will be reading Siddique's poetry on her website within a few weeks.
- LadyAmerica, on 08/13/2008, -3/+5Bet the DNC, Kos, Huff, MoveOn, & mainstream media all play this down or ignore it. Sure wouldn't want public to think about national security issues and Obama in the same "breath," now would we????
- Hortnon, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4Are you talking about the same Obama that wants to increase our forces in Afghanistan (coincidentally where this arrest occurred), and follow AQ into Pakistan if need be? Or some other Obama that only exists in the minds of deluded right-wingers?
However, you're probably right, the left-wing blogs will ignore this, which is a shame...

- humanerror, on 08/13/2008, -3/+1"Her education troubled us. We know that she's extremely bright. She's radicalized. We knew that she had been planning, or at least involved in the planning, of a wide variety of different operations, whether they involved weapons of mass destruction or research into chemical or biological weapons, whether it was a possible attempt on the life of the President," said Kiriakou. "We knew that she was involved with a great deal and we had to bring her into custody."
What's the evidence? What were they after her for besides being "radicalized" and "a terrorist"?
All I learned from this article is that she's a MIT graduate with a PhD in neuroscience, and that I'm supposed to be scared of her.
"According to the FBI and the US Attorney, the woman, Aafia Siddiqui, is scheduled to be arraigned before a federal magistrate in Manhattan Tuesday. The FBI had sought her for questioning in connection with assisting key al Qaeda operatives now detained at Guantanamo Bay. "
"The day after her arrest by Afghani authorities on July 17th, Siddiqui was shot twice in the torso, US officials said, when she grabbed a US soldier's M-4 carbine and attempted to shoot another officer as a team of US soldiers and FBI agents prepared to question her."
They "wanted her for questioning", no specifics given, they took her into custody, and shot her when she fought back. And we're supposed to cheer about that, and it doesn't even occur to anyone reading this, or to any of the journalists writing it, to ask what she's supposedly guilty of.- Troika37, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5I guess we should have just instructed our soldiers to lay down and die, right? What were they thinking, defending themselves like that while being FIRED ON? Our ROE are stringent enough. I would think that taking direct fire (and casualties) would be more than enough justification to return fire.
The fact that more specifics aren't mentioned is most likely because to give them would divulge our sources or methods - two things our intelligence keeps very closely guarded. (Especially from the NYTimes, as they are wont to divulge them to everyone.) - Hortnon, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3----* "when she grabbed a US soldier's M-4 carbine and attempted to shoot another officer" *----
So you want some American to stand there and take shots because you're sitting at home behind your computer judging them? Get real.
"to ask what she's supposedly guilty of."
She *wasn't* guilty of anything, she was wanted for questioning, according to your own post. When they picked her up, that's when they discovered that, *surprise!*, it was all justified. She's now a probable treasure trove of intel on AQ capabilities and plans.
