- JLSigman, on 06/20/2009, -7/+264Please digg this, it blows CNN's coverage out of the water.
- SpookyET, on 06/20/2009, -4/+208It shows the video of the girl (who was not protesting) dying looking straight at the camera while her father is screaming. She was shot in the heart according to the doctor who tried to save her. She died in 2 minutes.
- mgraham80, on 06/20/2009, -2/+150That video is the saddest thing I've ever seen. You literally see the life go out of her.
***** the clerics. - inactive, on 06/20/2009, -5/+129Excellent coverage
- kingofinternet, on 06/20/2009, -9/+106^ two idiots.
- noangelcame, on 06/20/2009, -2/+91The video of the shot girl broke me. I hope the Iranian people will over throw the Supreme Leader,. and get the government they deserve.
- Xihix, on 06/20/2009, -4/+89Nico Pitney needs to get some sort of award for his coverage man. Also, the videos of the girl dying before the camera's lens was incredibly hard to watch... Simply heart breaking.
- Lane5slacker, on 06/20/2009, -3/+84I usually don't like HuffPost but this coverage is unparalleled.
- MacEnvy, on 06/20/2009, -6/+83Very nice liveblog ... there's stuff on there from hours ago that CNN is just getting to now.
"But HuffpoGARRRBLLL!" in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... - inactive, on 06/20/2009, -2/+74I cried like a bitch, shut off my laptop, and went out for a smoke to get myself together.
I felt guilty for being such a lazy, entitled American, and for watching this woman die who I never met.
I hope her family gets through it ok. And most of all, I hope she doesn't die in vain. - junskey, on 06/20/2009, -2/+66http://digg.com/world_news/Iranian_woman_killed_in ...
GET THIS ON THE FRONTPAGE! - BUKiTT, on 06/20/2009, -4/+66Since the beginning of the events in Iran, Pitney's blog has been the best source of realtime information and updates on the internet. If there were a Pulitzer awarded for blogging, he would be at the top of this year's list. Digg it up!!
- redomelette, on 06/20/2009, -10/+66It was the Bush policies that allowed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to get into power on Anti American sentiment. Obama's polices have opened the world's eyes to the fact that American's are not all rednick dickwads.
- Pash1994, on 06/20/2009, -4/+51Nico Pitney live blogging the latest Iran election fallout. His reporting is excellent.
- primatage, on 06/20/2009, -3/+47This liveblog has been the best consolidated point for good information out of Iran since this whole thing started. The guy has barely slept in a week, and he's doing an amazing job.
- MangalaIII, on 06/20/2009, -3/+43What? Do you even know what's going on?
- Harabeck, on 06/20/2009, -4/+43"If mankind minus one were of one opinion, then mankind is no more justified in silencing the one than the one - if he had the power - would be justified in silencing mankind." -John Stuart Mill
God speed, Iran. - teamgwho, on 06/20/2009, -2/+40I know some folks (Romney, mcCain) have criticized Obama for his tepid comments about the situation in iran. For Obama it is a dual edged sword. if he strongly comdemns the election and the ruling party, the anti-American elements within iran can use his comments as a rally pointing around which to gather. if he doesn't say much, he looks as if he doesn't care.
Sadly I think this is a situation where the Iranian people must control their own future. We can not go into Iran, (as we did in iraq) or even strongly support them, because it could inflame the rest of the Muslim world. If we interfere we could make things worse. Unless and until it become nothing but attrocities, there's not much we can say or do that won't make things worse. i mean really, it's not like we can send in tanks and fighter jets against the Basj...
it's far better if the people themselves stand up for themselves and if it comes to it, overthrow the ruling party.it gives it far more legitimacy thyen if we stepped in.
Unfortunately this is the least worst option... - kingofinternet, on 06/20/2009, -4/+40I am sickened but not surprised that people in America are trying to make political hay out of what's happening in Iran, trying to spin success or failure of this event as proof of the legitimacy or illegitimacy of certain U.S. political ideologies. What good does your strong rhetoric or political posturing do for these Iranian people?
But that's not the point is it? It's to exploit this event to make cheap political points.
This is an Iranian matter and a matter of fundamental human dignity. Let's hope that the brave people of Iran succeed. - tenio, on 06/20/2009, -1/+37"With rebellion, awareness is born." Albert Camus
- DiscoUnderpants, on 06/20/2009, -0/+32The bitch of it is that Iranians are the nicest ***** people in the world. I have worked with and been friends with about half a dozen... my former landlord in London was an Iranian who fled in 79. They are happy, kind and extremely nice.
- quantax, on 06/20/2009, -3/+32Khamenei has done more damage to his own legitimacy than any number of reformists could at this point, amazingly enough.
- inactive, on 06/20/2009, -3/+32this shall be remembered just like the tiananmen square
- inactive, on 06/20/2009, -7/+36Gimme a break. This has nothing to do with Bush. The reason Obama can't say anything about condeming the election results or endorse Ahmadinejad's opponent is because it would only serve to help Ahmadinejad. The President of the US is viewed in Iran much the same way Osama Bin Laden is viewed in the US. An endorsement from the US would be viewed in Iran much the same way there, as an endorsement from Bin Laden of a US candidate would be here. The US government has been sponsoring terrorist attacks within Iran for the past several years. Not to mention the CIA sponsored coup to over throw Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq in 1953. The US is despised in Iran by virtually everybody.
- ShingoEX, on 06/20/2009, -2/+30Because the most important thing is the label slapped on the site, huh? Get a life, and stop being a tool. Maybe someday, you'll be able to see where the real importance lies.
- franrey, on 06/20/2009, -2/+28We should be protesting CNN's coverage. Seriously I wish there was more I could do.
- DiscoUnderpants, on 06/20/2009, -1/+27If the people of Iran can see this footage then I can see this getting a lot uglier before it gets better. I know if I was Iranian I'd be pretty much on the street throwing rocks also. Good luck and keep safe to all the protesters.
- Drkgodess, on 06/20/2009, -1/+26May she RIP...
- precog29, on 06/20/2009, -2/+25This is new:
Moussavi Facebook page: Reformist leader ready to die - 3 hours ago
Mir Hossein Moussavi said he is ready for "martyrdom" and is quoted as telling followers to "protest" and "not go to work."
This is what is has come down to. This is the result of tyranny. - jaxter2010, on 06/20/2009, -4/+27Yeah but its all so depressing. Thats why I like to mix in a little Fox News for a good laugh. Read the comments in this article to brighten your day (or cause you to lose faith in mankind):
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/20/republi ...
In a nutshell:
1. The Iran Revolution is all thanks to the Bush Administration's determination to bring freedom to the middle east.
2. Obama is afraid that the Iran protests will give American's ideas to revolt when he dissembles democracy and implements his marxist society.
3. The Democrats oppress the poor so they stay poor so they will vote for them.
I wish I had thought of reading these earlier.... - ownt790, on 06/20/2009, -2/+24I felt sick to my stomach watching that woman die with blood rushing out of her head. The unfortunate price you pay for freedom. Stay strong Iran.
- Xihix, on 06/20/2009, -0/+22No. This is something huge.
- nomadickirk, on 06/20/2009, -2/+24Wow on Huffingtonpost! This is CNN during first gulf war, Drudge during the blue dress dilemma. Excellent example of the tweets, the blogs, social nets and multimedia coming together.
- Drkgodess, on 06/20/2009, -0/+22From a tweet that was passed to CNN reportedly from inside Iran: "I have one vote. I gave it to Mousavi. I have one life. I will give it for freedom."
May her death not be in vain... - joshthegreat200, on 06/20/2009, -1/+22These videos give me chills...
- mightierthan, on 06/20/2009, -3/+24Nico is doing such an admirable job with this story. Please help Digg
- relaxeder, on 06/20/2009, -0/+20Go play WoW then.
- FervinsUlterius, on 06/20/2009, -8/+27You Like Farts
- diemunkiesdie, on 06/20/2009, -4/+23I'm getting tired of the CNN hate.
CNN has been covering this pretty extensively, and you will also find it covering the front page of CNN.com. CNN has other news stories to cover as well, like truck bombs in Iraq and the threat from North Korea. They are an American news company so they cover what is most relevant to Americans, which means all news outside of America that does not directly impact us doesn't get as much coverage. In light of that they have been doing an excellent job.
Also, hats off to Nico Pitney, I won't deny that the coverage at Huff Post has been amazing and I have been refreshing it constantly.
For those who want another good live blog about Iran, check out http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_di ... - rlnunez, on 06/20/2009, -3/+22hummm.... in a country where some say "Death to America, Death to Great Britain", do you really think that it is a smart idea to have the President support a candidate? He would preform political homicide for what ever side he said the US supported if he were to do so; and no matter what Fox and Repub's would say that he did the wrong thing.
- deathandtaverns, on 06/20/2009, -0/+19doesn't mean we shouldn't pay attention to them
- jrod03, on 06/20/2009, -0/+18when her eyes followed the camera that sent shivers down my spine. damn that was sad...
- kingatrock, on 06/20/2009, -2/+19Holy jesus that was tough to watch, this is worse than I thought. I know nothing about these people but I'm keeping them in my heart and mind. Here I am complaining how tired I am digging trenches in our yard to put a sprinkler system in on a cool sunny California afternoon and they're fighting for their lives.
- sarahlee, on 06/20/2009, -1/+18It is.
- Kinneas12, on 06/21/2009, -0/+17Reporters in the field? Are you from the past? They're locked up in hotel rooms right now. The real reporters are the people on the streets with their cellphone cameras and Youtube.
CNN and such don't even show half this *****. Right now it is the duty of the rest of the world to bear witness to these events. - inactive, on 06/20/2009, -0/+16This may turn out to be a very historically significant series of events. So, no, I am not annoyed. I would like to see even more stories about it.
- MaTT2011, on 06/20/2009, -2/+18Not so excellent attention here on digg though, which is a bit surprising.
The frontpage has Jobs's Liver transplant at #1 (which is a big deal for fans, but come on...lets get some perspective) -Damn it feels good to be a DJ at #2 (REALLY?) and Moby @ #3 speaking out against the RIAA (the issue/event itself is well worthy of this spot).
But nothing about Iran is in the top stories.....which confounds me. What happens there really DOES have a big effect in many other places, while perhaps not directly for every American, and this is Democracy in action! This is the nitty gritty that we have to be willing to engage in to make sure any given, so called, democratic government abides by the principles it supposedly subscribes itself too. - inactive, on 06/20/2009, -3/+18I think it's sad that people can see video of this fledgling movement of freedom and somehow still vote to not support democracy and instead be on the side of hatred, ignorance, and oppression .
- diemunkiesdie, on 06/20/2009, -0/+15That video made me sick to my stomach. I just don't understand this brutality against a fellow human being!
- Merp08, on 06/20/2009, -0/+15I can't get that ***** picture out of my head, I'm still crying.
