You will have to look further back to see where the discussion starts between this bean head Banderwockey and I and it started with his anti American rhetoric which is ill informed, ignorant and vulgar in its content. - cageybee, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1they are supposedly fighting to eliminate poppy fields, but a simple solution is to offer the Afghan farmers more money for produce than the drug lords offer them for opium poppy which is $300 per kilo. if they really wanted to eliminate those poppy fields, this is what they would've done.
CNN had a program "Afghanistan - Narco State". In this program Afghan farmers said that they can't grow anything but poppy, because no one wants to buy anything but poppy. But, $300 per kilo????
If they really want to eradicate the poppy from Afghanistan, they should subsidize th farmers to make them grow food instead of drugs, especially now that we are facing a global food crisis.
The fact is, they are not there to eliminate any poppy fields or to bring peace - they are there to control Afghanistan for oil pipelines and to keep Afghanistan destabilized, because destabilized Afghanistan cripples Eurasian trade and allows US to capitalize on this destabilization.
US destroyed Afghanistan once in 1979 (yes, US, and not the Soviets), now we are there destroying it for a second time.
