While the obesity crisis has spilled its way into Canada, America remains one of the fattest nations in the world. Probably from all the McDonalds and laziness.- captric, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1That is why we have more Olympic medals than Canada ever will in its entire history. More ignorant rantings from an illiterate Canadian with too much tetrahydrocannibinol floating around in your blood stream. Oh yes, and while we are on the subject, one of the shortest lists in the world is the list of Canadian Olympic Medal recipients, the second smallest list in the world is the list of Canadian WAR HEROES!
- banderwocky, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2Riiight. The number of medals is ample proof that Americans are less obese than Canadians. But go ahead and mock the Canadian soldiers who have died serving in Afghanistan looking for Osama Bin Laden. I would expect nothing less from a cowardly Americunt hypocrite like yourself who is hiding in Canada.
- captric, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1Do you always borrow words from other people and turn them around to be reused. Little kids do that until their brains are developed enough for original thought. There is plenty of ample proof that Americans are less obese than Canadians besides our athletic excellence recognized throughout the world. You really have never been here have you? And you are using dated information supplied by you by an obese propagandist Michael Moore, the biggest fastest and stupidest white man in America. He is secretly a Canadian at heart because Canadians LOVE Michael Moore.
- banderwocky, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1Actually, I went to a military boarding school in the US. Learned how to kill, do drugs, drink and chase women. The same kinda stuff most soldiers do. I'm using dated info? This coming froma guy who likes to quote Ontario alcohol numbers from a 1999 Canadian Health journal? How exactly is my info dated?
- captric, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1You wouldn't last one day in the US Marines, don't kid yourself. You don't have the spine nor the brains. he alcohol numbers of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome babies who are now 9 years old???? Is that the numbers you are referring to? The article that shows that 20% of all 9 year old's in Ontario have some degree of FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME??? Those kids are 9 year old *****, its not dated - that is NOW!!
- banderwocky, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1I went to a military boarding school for four and a half years. That's not that same as the marines!! WOW! How the crap did you confuse those two? Anyways, it was a gong show. Made Staff Sargent, that was about it. The article I pointed out was written in 1999 that you lovingly like to refer to. I'll go find some updated info on American and Canada obesity for you.
- captric, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1Military boarding school?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You really are ridiculous if you think that is equivalent to the US Marines!!
You really are a joke! - captric, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1From the ECONOMIST: Although Canada has withstood mild American slowdowns in the past, a deeper slump across the border might well bring the loonie, and Canadian pride in it, down to earth with a bump.
- captric, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1The Canadians are getting htere asses kicked in Afghanistan and the US is going to takepver command - figures

Funniest quote;
"Americans Aren’t Fat Because They Lack Willpower; They’re Fat Because They’re Broke" - captric, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1You can move to Somalia and Ethiopia and live for awhile - that will show you why some people in the world are skinny and poor and others are well fed. Obesity is a subjective term and besides, as you like to point out in per capita data, Canadians are just as obese as Americans if not more. Because we have the medical and dietary resources to change that and you do not!
- banderwocky, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1This one is cool. Because of the pictures...and info.

Excerpt:
Experts estimate that 10 to 25% of all teenagers and 20 to 50% of all adults have a weight problem. It is known that obesity brings many health hazards with it, including heart attacks, strokes and diabetes with all of its complications. Obesity is a serious concern to all health care practitioners.

Excerpt:
In 2004, 26% of children and youth aged 2-17 years were overweight or obese, including 8% who were obese. Overweight and obesity among 2-5 year olds remained the same between 1979 and 2004 (21%), with obesity reported at 6.3% in 2004. Overweight and obesity doubled among 6-17 year olds between 1979 and 2004 and obesity tripled among adolescents aged 12-17 years.
The prevalence of obesity has increased at an alarming rate over the past two decades, to the extent that it is now a pandemic affecting billions globally2. The Canadian experience has been no different than that of many other developed countries. Statistics Canada data demonstrate that more than half of Canadians are overweight or obese, with almost 15 per cent of the population falling in the category of "obese"3. Between 1981 and 1996, the prevalence of obesity in Canada increased from nine to 14 percent in men and from eight to 12 percent in women, while those in the categories of overweight and obesity together increased from 48 to 57 percent among men and from 30 to 35 percent among women. The same research team found similar dramatic trends for Canadian children4.
More Canadian children are overweight and for the first time the country's younger generations are expected to live shorter lives than their parents because of obesity, says a new Commons committee report made public yesterday.
Committee MPs said they were "shocked" to learn about the increase in overweight children, from 12 per cent to 18 per cent, and obese children, from three per cent to eight per cent, between 1978 and 2004.
That makes about one in four Canadian children overweight or obese.
OLYMPIC MEDALS
87 gold, 114 silver, 133 bronze, 334 total, through 2004
summer: 55 gold, 86 silver, 97 bronze, 238 total
winter: 32 gold, 28 silver, 36 bronze, 96 total
United States Olympic Medals
978 gold, 767 silver, 666 bronze, 2411 total, through 2004
summer: 909 gold, 697 silver, 615 bronze, 2221 total
winter: 69 gold, 70 silver, 51 bronze, 190 total
Do the math you ***** brain surgeon --- MORE US OLYMPIC MEDALS PER CAPITA and HALF of all Canadians are OBESE by your standards! - banderwocky, on 05/02/2008, -1/+1Yup, more olympic medals for sure. Americans still lead the way in obesity by per capita in the world though. As I showed you before. :)
- captric, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1What you showed me was a CARTOON created by someone trying to massage numbers to make it LOOK like people are more Obese in the US. Without a definition of what OBESE is in their so called study- and comparing "obesity to Gross Domestic Production!??? What the ***** does obesity have to do with GDP!!!!!!!!!!!! Some people will believe ANYTHING - you have a long way to go boy in your education, why don't you start with science and then statistics so you too can sort the ***** from reality and learn to check the credibility of your sources!
- banderwocky, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Yea, you didn't read the information accompanying those charts showing you that America leads the world in the obesity crisis. Nice cherry picking! But hey, take consolation that the states has more gold medals! At least there may be 4700 Olympians who may not be overweight now. Than again, they might be. :)
- banderwocky, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2Riiight. The number of medals is ample proof that Americans are less obese than Canadians. - DerangedPenguin, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1ignore this goof ball, he maybe all for the Marines, however, he needs to do a little research on what the Canadians did for the Allies in WWII. What is the population of Canada compared to the United States? I for one think the Canadians in spite of their more liberal governments attempts to neuter Canadian society have down a "smashing good job." Rather stand beside a Canadian than a Frenchman or French Canadiens --Go Flyers!--
Now if you will excuse me I need to go work off this Mega big Canadian Bacon, Sausage, double egg, double cheese, greasy hash brown breakfast sandwich made with two buttered and sugar glazed donuts and the 128 oz bucket of cola I had for breakfast. before I die of a heart attack.- captric, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1I am just not sure how to take that statement. Of course the Canadians contributed to WW2 but only in the European conflict. Not to diminish the contribution of Canadian troops anywhere, but the biggest loss of life in WW2 by Canadians was due to a tragic accident. In Kabul they have been unable to effectively stop the Taliban in there sector and the US Marines had to be called in two days ago. I have the greatest respect for Canadian troops and work with a few who flew American made F-18's in the Canadian Air Force. They are smart upstanding guys and good American citizens, making good money, enjoying a good career, sending their kids to good schools in the US. You will have to look further back to see where the discussion starts between this bean head Banderwockey and I and it started with his anti American rhetoric which is ill informed, ignorant and vulgar in its content. Don't expect Americans to take that kind of crap from anyone, I as a former Canadian know better.

That is pretty diminishing. There is more, but why bother? You may apologize to the Canadian Armed forces if you wish.
I just point out hypocrisy, foolishness, stupidity when I see it. Don't matter what side of the boarder it's on.
Actually Canada isn't doing to bad on medal counts on the Olympics. Better than most, worse than some.

From the Globe and Mail - A Canadian Newspaper in case you have not heard. Why do you think the medical care was not available in Canada????? - banderwocky, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1probably because American doctors have more time on their hands for charity work? I dunno, but I will guess it was up to the volunteer doctors who did this operation, so good for them on helping that little girl. Back to the subject at hand;
You may apologize to the Canadian Armed forces at any time for your 'diminishing' comments.

- cageybee, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1they are supposedly fighting to eliminate poppy fields, but a simple solution is to offer the Afghan farmers more money for produce than the drug lords offer them for opium poppy which is $300 per kilo. if they really wanted to eliminate those poppy fields, this is what they would've done.
CNN had a program "Afghanistan - Narco State". In this program Afghan farmers said that they can't grow anything but poppy, because no one wants to buy anything but poppy. But, $300 per kilo????
If they really want to eradicate the poppy from Afghanistan, they should subsidize th farmers to make them grow food instead of drugs, especially now that we are facing a global food crisis.
The fact is, they are not there to eliminate any poppy fields or to bring peace - they are there to control Afghanistan for oil pipelines and to keep Afghanistan destabilized, because destabilized Afghanistan cripples Eurasian trade and allows US to capitalize on this destabilization.
US destroyed Afghanistan once in 1979 (yes, US, and not the Soviets), now we are there destroying it for a second time. Then, we say that Afghanistan is a terrorist state????- DerangedPenguin, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1Gee this is really interesting. friend of mine served with the Soviet Army in Afghanistan I think the good полко́вник might disagree with your assessment that the US destroyed Afghanistan in 1979. How come every time someone mentions any fighting in the middle east the first thought that comes to a moonbats head is oil. It is almost like some sort of anal fixation War = Oil = Capitalism. If the war really was all about oil then we would be plundering the Canadians, the Mexicans, the Floridians for their oil.

- DerangedPenguin, on 05/01/2008, -0/+0I am not sure that these farmers can even grow anything other than poppies. Besides they are the worlds leading supplier of Poppy Seeds for muffins. I suspect that the liberal-fascist movement (New Democrat Party) is providing money to the Poppy farms, so that the supply of Heroin to the inner cities of the United States is insured. This insures that there will never be a shortage of uneducated, drug whacked out, government dependent Democrat voters.
Wow what do you know I can be just as deranged and mean spirited as the Left if I try hard enough.
