- 919kwjc, on 03/12/2009, -2/+41These idiots never take into account the emergency response people who may also get killed trying to save their asses.
- Grumps, on 03/12/2009, -3/+35The man was naked when they rescued him? Heck.
The title should be "Naked man survives plunge over Niagara Falls" - lsocoee, on 03/12/2009, -2/+33He was run over by a bus.
- Halsfield, on 03/12/2009, -4/+30All this info and no one released anything saying whether the guy jumped in on purpose , tried to commit suicide, or any info on why he did it?
If he meant to kill himself and lived that is probably the funniest/saddest thing I've heard all day. - HiddenCanuck, on 03/12/2009, -1/+21Suicide. There's dozens of them at Niagara every year. Newspapers will not report them so as not to give publicity and encourage more.
One man went over a year or so back, survived, and decided to turn his life around after being miraculously spared. Wonder what happened to him. - Bhatch514, on 03/12/2009, -3/+21Ahhh the beautiful Canadian Horseshoe Falls in Niagara.... the ones they show in New York tourist guides.
- anarcurt, on 03/12/2009, -0/+15The sucess rate is rather high for that method.
- BlackOculus, on 03/12/2009, -0/+12Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to...
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -0/+10You're gonna end up with nothing at all...
- KimmyGibbler, on 03/12/2009, -0/+10Considering he was trying to kill himself and failed, I think he is a candidate for the opposite of the Darwin Award, whatever that may be (the Steve-O Award perhaps?)
- KSUdesigner, on 03/12/2009, -0/+9Unless his goal was to not survive...
- ShadoxPrime, on 03/12/2009, -1/+9I think he was trying to skip to the end of the list and die.
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -1/+9Yeah, because being naked is the worst thing in the world?
- yokes, on 03/12/2009, -0/+8Given that he apparently refused help from the helicopter, I suspect suicide was on the menu.
- spish, on 03/12/2009, -0/+6My wife was visiting her parents in Niagara Falls yesterday. When they heard the sirens her dad exclaimed "There goes another jumper!". Then when they heard the helicopters it was pretty much confirmed. They've lived there for 40 years and, as my father in law said, "if it's not a jumper, it's a big fire".
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -1/+7If this was a suicide, do it some other way.
Rescue people could have died saving this piece of *****. - inactive, on 03/12/2009, -1/+6Any adult man would probably have died of ***** in the short seconds before the fall.
Have you seen the Niagara Falls? I mean... anyone would have literally pooped their bowels out of sheer panic. The chopper would be collecting a dead body with a face that would resemble a victim of the Ring videotape. - HiddenCanuck, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5When I was a kid, i always wondered when they were going to finish that bridge....
- slapded, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4For me, it's the Canadian side or nothin'
- Bhatch514, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ...
The only part of the Horseshoe fall in US is the part that does not form the horseshoe. - AdmiralAcbar, on 03/12/2009, -2/+6Because you can't see the American Falls from the States. At least not without that lookout thingy they built.
- 1plant1world, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4Nope, pink guy!
- Darkgh0st, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4If he's going for Suicide then why pick the Canadian falls? The bottom of the American falls are all rocks. Survival rate= 0
- HiddenCanuck, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3Meh, i wonder if you`d feel much with the adrenaline pumping, end of your life and all...
- RagManX, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Ever consider that this guy might have just been a terminator, sent from the future, who landed in the wrong spot? Would explain the nakedness. Would explain the survival. Would possibly explain not accepting help, what with needing to kill every human on the helicopter. He probably chose not to kill everyone when he realized that would be hundreds of people and might expose his mission.
- trpnblies7, on 03/12/2009, -1/+3We're bobbing along in our barrels
Some of us tip right over the edge... - Kerrigore, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Or maybe the Island just wasn't done with him yet...
- arock99, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2burried...the article cant even mention why he jumped...
- teamgwho, on 03/12/2009, -5/+7Bravo? more like fail. The guy can't do anything right.
/s - inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Damn now I remember. That's a damn shame. They were great. RIP.
- danwallace, on 03/12/2009, -6/+8The man's "chances of survival without the quick response would be lessened," Smith said.
You don't say. - stonebear, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Not to mention the numbing cold.
- GemStar38, on 03/12/2009, -2/+4The success rate is high, but I am thinking it could also be quite painful.
- Clumber, on 03/12/2009, -1/+3@Iamalawyer I believe the *pirate one died in a car crash somewhere while doing charity work...? Yeah, I could Wiki or Google, but so could you. I think that in standard cop-talk that 'excessive speed on poor roads contributed to the accident.' RIP and such.
*eye patch, for the kiddies who don't remember - diggmeordie, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2There's an actual video of Lisa Lopez crashing the SUV while reaching in the backseat with a soda from passengers in the backseat. It's pretty eerie and surreal seeing someone like that moments before they died. I'm at work so no link.
- Clumber, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2"Shrinkage! Don't you know about shrinkage???!!!"
- nonNewtonian, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2For more information about others who've gone over the Falls (some made it, others didn't) check out this episode of "Stuff You Should Know" podcast:

I thought it was weird that I listened to this podcast just several days ago, and am reading now reading about a new case... - lazyfisherman, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Suicidal dude didn't know he was unbreakable!
He needs to re-evaluate his life and use his powers to do some good... - mgriffith001, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Great article where they forget to mention he was trying to kill himself and actively refused to be rescued until a helicopter had to use its rotors to create a current that pushed him to shore. Shoulda let him go imo (although it is pretty badass he survived)
- jpop, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Same thing here. I had also seen a special on TV recently on it as well. I wonder if it is just coincidence, or if the jumper had seen the same thing and gotten the idea from that.
- bobbknight, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1skatingmania007
Bravo, BRAVO you idiot the man tried to kill himself and you say BRAVO. - lottscarson, on 03/12/2009, -3/+4"The man did not aid in his rescue, officials said, though it was not immediately clear whether he was physically unable to or he did not want to do so."
Le duh, the guy wanted to die. Why did those ***** have to go through so much trouble to save him? - inactive, on 03/12/2009, -1/+2He looks white because of sheer terror of looking down and seeing the gigantic, roaring, white hole of water ready to swallow you 176 feet below.

I'm peeing myself just from seeing the photo and imagining the drop to white hell - Niightwitch, on 03/12/2009, -0/+1Did it on a dare?
- buckrogers1965, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1The force of the water rips your clothes off. Many flash flood victims are also found naked.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1No Darwin for this one indeed. Isocoee's correct that he needed to die, of course, but there's now a risk he might instead *reproduce*. The whole point of the award is being able to finally get away with saying that some people simply should not spawn (ok, a lot of people -- see littermom) because of the freedom afforded by the 'net. At least, that's how I've always seen it.
- Kerrigore, on 03/12/2009, -0/+1Maybe he thought jumping over niagara falls was the cure for cancer. That would explain everything, right?
- jgubbe, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1In the video it shows a helicopter windblasting water in the mans face so he could probably barely breathe and where the ***** is a flotation device? They say in the article he didn't help in his own rescue because I'm sure he had plenty of energy after first slamming into water at a high rate of speed and then being pummeled by massive amounts of water at high speeds. Ribs probably felt great.
- CNAIF, on 03/12/2009, -1/+2Naked man gets first letter in Niagara Falls wrong, wife refuses to follow.
