- Slovenian6474, on 07/07/2008, -0/+78FTA: "Andrew wasn't a stupid man and if he had known how dangerous drinking that much was, he wouldn't have done it."
"During the day he had been constantly drinking and vomiting, only to go and refill his glass for more water every time he was sick."
It's quite common knowledge that vomiting is a sign of something not being right. - irfanmp, on 07/07/2008, -1/+67Reminds me of a story where a radio station held a water-drinking contest to win a Nintendo Wii and one of the contestants died of water intoxication - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6270195.stm
- Duositex, on 07/08/2008, -1/+21Here is a great example of why I HATE headlines followed by question marks.
Did the guy die? YES! Was it because of too much water? YES. So why are you ASKING me if that is the case??
Submitter: Is this your way of avoiding reading the article? You ask the question and have everyone answer it for you?? - jcorn1, on 07/08/2008, -0/+18This can happen but it is rare. Also, if he had gingivitis, the inflammation is connected to heart issues even without the extra water in his system. Vomiting can be an early sign of heart attack as well. I think he ignored quite a few warning signs, including signs of common sense.
- Daedalus81, on 07/08/2008, -0/+16You're right! We need to ban this stuff! It's deadlier than you think!
http://dhmo.org - FuryOfThor, on 07/07/2008, -0/+15Can't believe that people have hazed new frat rushees by making them drink lots of water in place of alcohol. Bad call.
- chrissku, on 07/08/2008, -0/+14Too much of anything will kill you.
- scheibs14, on 07/08/2008, -2/+16I'm Ron Burgundy?

"shunned medicine in favour of water"
Indeed, the height of intelligence - adidos, on 07/08/2008, -1/+14Pro-tip: When you hover over links, it shows the full address in the status bar.
Draw your own conclusions. - eryximachus, on 07/08/2008, -1/+13It sounds like the man was deranged. Water was the least of his problems.
- Surferess, on 07/07/2008, -2/+14thank you!
- Hayes, on 07/08/2008, -0/+11In college I played flip cup with water for 2 hours straight on a dare and peed about 10 times throughout. I started getting dizzy and almost passed out. I Googled "Is drinking too much water bad for you?" and found out you can die because all the sodium in your body gets depleted. I started eating handfuls of salt and Gatorade powder in fear of my life. True story.
- bilb, on 07/07/2008, -1/+12It reminds me of some guy that died from drinking too much water.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-511475/Man ... - ayeroxor, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10Your mom after she's been dead for 24 hours?
- Pittance, on 07/08/2008, -2/+12Shunned medicine because the water "numbed" his mouth. Was vomiting from too much water, but kept drinking. Yeah, no ***** he died. His body went "hell no, stop it!" and he didn't listen. Some people we are better off without.
^agree with the darwin comment. :) - blackinthmiddle, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10"An inquest heard that he had suffered from gingivitis for 20 years and had shunned medicine in favour of water because it numbed his mouth."
Death numbs everything! - tidu, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10And who says diggers aren't informed on today's hot topics?
- kmattso, on 07/08/2008, -0/+9FTA ...when his legs eventually gave way and he banged his head on a cabinet, cutting open his eyebrow and biting through his tongue, that his mother finally persuaded him to go to hospital
His mom is a master of persuasion. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -3/+12Darwin approves
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/08/2008, -1/+10Could've been intentional
- dha07030, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8That reminds me of the time when that guy drank 10 liters in eight hours.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2262683/Man ... - chaoswings, on 07/08/2008, -4/+12This is one of the things I hate about digg. Someone just died and your response basically sums up to "I'm glad he died". People do stupid things but it does not mean we should be happy they are dead. I'm not railing on you specifically but those of you in general who say things like this.
- Merendino, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8In other words, don't do stupid *****.
- slvrbullet87, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8eat 200 pounds of it in a sitting and we will see
- Kitchenfire, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8"I have always been brought up to believe you should drink a lot of water but now I know you have to be very careful."
Marijuana has a new competitor for most vilified natural substance: Water. Let the War on Water begin America! - chief100, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7Water is the main component of BEER - OK I am officially terrified.
- bknoll22, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6grammar good yes?
- twiztidsinz, on 07/08/2008, -2/+8Pro-tip: Go back to 4chan
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6FTA "I have always been brought up to believe you should drink a lot of water but now I know you have to be very careful."
Ummm no you don't have to be really careful, the human body can easily cope with the amount of liquid that you can comfortably consume. When you stand at the sink and drink glass after glass feeling your stomach bulge and you have to hold back the urge to vomit you are over doing it genius. - ratpH1nk, on 07/08/2008, -2/+8Not quite right. His concentrations of sodium and potassium from water intoxication fell. You can pee out most of the water, but that water will never be 100% pure water, electrolytes will go with it. Once you get hyponatremic you are prone to getting seizures are the membrane potential of neurons gets out of whack. The same with electrical activity for your heart which relies on a Na-K ATPase system for cardiac contractility. So it is quite reasonable that he died of cardia arrest secondary to hypokalemia from water intoxication.
- Gee1004, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5According to the article, he did that 2 days before too. So it was 30 liters in 3 days
- Merendino, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5But remember Andrew was not a stupid man!
- winmywii, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5I drink a little over 1 gallon a day. I would really have to force myself to drink 10 liters.
- Osirus1156, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5"They say we're 98% water. We're that close to drowning ... [picks up a glass of water] ... I like to live on the edge. "
-Steve Wright - PawnsOfJoshua, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6It is rare because few people are this stupid.
- akkibaba, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Is the title a toast?
"Here's to much of a good thing! Cheers!" - zmigliozzi, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5Yay for hyponatremia.
- ayeroxor, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Now it's your turn to teach me something: What the ***** does 'Wierest' mean?
- dwright99, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5Hey fangs, maybe you should consider not wasting oxygen yourself.
***** you people and your Darwin / gene pool analogies. - liuite, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5too much water can kill you. it is called drowning.
- Zymophideth, on 07/07/2008, -4/+7dugg for reproductive hardiness.
- Beanbones, on 07/08/2008, -6/+9It's "too", not "to". Buried for spelling.
- Tyrghast, on 07/08/2008, -3/+6To much of a good thing?!?!?!
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -10/+13There are quite the ***** out there. It may sound callous, but some people need to be selected out of the gene pool, but he probably already had kids. Well at the very least he met his evolutionary requirement for reproductive hardiness.
