- Cyberbladewolf, on 02/10/2008, -12/+15If people could sell their organs, there wouldn't be such a black market for them, nor would we have such a horrid waiting list for them. Let someone sell their kidney if they want to. They need money, someone needs a kidney. Win/win. Of course, I don't mean that everyone HAS to sell their kidney, I just think people should have the right to choose whether to sell, donate, or keep their organs.
- Ajajadude, on 02/10/2008, -7/+3I don't know about sell, but people already have the right to donate organs.
- LloydBentsen, on 02/10/2008, -1/+4You missed the point. There isn't a legal financial incentive for people when your only option is to donate free of charge. This is simply economics, and doesn't mean that the dude that steals other people's organs is justified by any means.
- heystoopid, on 02/10/2008, -0/+3Not in the UK the ruling government party has arbitrarily decided to create a new law for harvesting all usable body organs just like this evil dude but from all deceased roadside crash victims regardless of the victims intentions or request !
- Nossie, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3And you will miss them HOW when you die?
The UK gov has suggested an OPT OUT system.... because those that would sign up to donate organs just never got around to getting a donor card because they are so apathetic... (e.g LAZY)
This means that if any of you religious bible bashing whores want to deprive people of precious fully working organs to save anothers life then that's up to you.
The point being that there is a DIRE shortage of organs for the right blood types etc in the UK (and across the world for that matter) and this new proposal would go a long way to fulfill the shortfall.
It's actually one of the few opt-out systems I believe in... spam on the other hand - get that the ***** away from me!- Stochio, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1So people shouldn't worry about anything that happens after they die? By that logic, people should never by life insurance. By that logic, people would never sign up to be soldiers.
Another mistake you make is equating "not missing something" with a warrant to take something.
- Stochio, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1So people shouldn't worry about anything that happens after they die? By that logic, people should never by life insurance. By that logic, people would never sign up to be soldiers.
- Nossie, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3And you will miss them HOW when you die?
- whyufail, on 02/10/2008, -5/+14Right, because you know, THAT would NEVER get horribly abused and result in all sorts of problems. Can't wait to see walmart buying organs from homeless people at $100 a pop and then selling them in 12 packs for $5,000.
- DarkSamus, on 02/10/2008, -2/+412 packs? don't tase me bro
- Herostratos, on 02/10/2008, -1/+3... Why would the homeless sell it to you at 1/50 of the market price?
- smurfsahoy, on 02/11/2008, -1/+2Probably because the vast majority of homeless people have (easily treatable) untreated mental illnesses, and don't know any better.
- Claverhouse, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1Because it's a buyer's market when people are desperate.
- Stochio, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1It's logic like that that keeps teenagers unemployed and minimum wage laws intact.
- MasterPain, on 02/10/2008, -1/+4especially when the hospital charges an arm & a leg for them
- techmaster, on 02/10/2008, -1/+4They pay you to donate blood and semen, why not other organs?
- nextyoyoma, on 02/10/2008, -2/+6because your body can make new blood. It can't make you a new kidney.
- LloydBentsen, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2You can live on one kidney if you are a healthy individual.
- LordCracknBerry, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1I've always paid to donate my semen.
- nextyoyoma, on 02/10/2008, -2/+6because your body can make new blood. It can't make you a new kidney.
- uziko, on 02/10/2008, -2/+6Bad, bad idea, that would increase the rate of kidney theft, believe me it's a good thing you can't sell your kidney.
- Herostratos, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2Why?
- pak314, on 02/10/2008, -3/+2Because it is a bad, bad idea, that would increase the rate of kidney theft, believe me it's a good thing you can't sell your kidney.
- Stochio, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1Does a lawful means to sell your car increase car theft? If yes, does that mean people shouldn't be able to sell cars?
- Herostratos, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2Why?
- jdpalite, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1There are so many reasons why people shouldn't be allowed to sell their internal organs. Donation is one thing, but money makes people do crazy ***** (or makes others force them to do crazy *****). Also, if you sell your kidney for $10,000, you shoudn't get the $100,000 of treatment that you'll need post-op (and possibly for the rest of your life) for free.
If someone DONATES an organ, I have no problem paying my part (via insurance, taxes, whatever) for them to receive medical care post-op, but as far as I'm concerned, if they sell an organ, they're on their own.- Stochio, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1Then supply will be much lower. Nice work, statist.
- Ajajadude, on 02/10/2008, -7/+3I don't know about sell, but people already have the right to donate organs.
- techresearcher, on 02/10/2008, -3/+20The greediness of the human race is really sumthin.

- brownmajik, on 02/10/2008, -5/+9Maximum jail this guy will get is 10 years. That's Nepal for you.
- mindspaceindia, on 02/10/2008, -0/+12Actually he's being tried in India
- ShiftAWS, on 02/10/2008, -0/+8How could someone do this to a human being? 10 years..... he should be in for life!
- Syntaxis, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1Are you saying you wish for him to live longer than 10 years? I'd be glad to see him die in prison and not waste tax money on keeping him alive. Prisoners eat food too you know. Waste of money on this guy.
- ElBeh, on 02/10/2008, -3/+1odrew> dude. that would freak me out to have my kidney stolen.
they like. lure people to some office and then drug 'em up.

- jozb, on 02/10/2008, -8/+6In India if you go to a hospital for operation, you might come out with your kidney missing. It happens more often than you think.
- ortucis, on 02/10/2008, -2/+8Just how many hospitals in India have you had the operation in? Cause I think you are full of ***** and they probably wouldn't find anything useful to steal.
- jozb, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1Maybe you should come out of the box you are living in. I'm not saying all hospitals do this, but some hospitals and some doctors do this. Where is your proof that I'm making this up.
"A mechanic, Shaukat Ali, had filed a complaint that he had been robbed of a kidney after having been taken to the Noida center, one of the few in the country that performs kidney transplants, for a medical examination. Solicitors had promised him a lucrative job in Singapore and told him that he needed the exam to obtain a visa, Mr. Ali said."

I can find more if I want, but sadly India is not America and not every single incident is recorded and analyzed and taken through the Judicial system. These people are poor and have no place to voice their opinions OK. By your lack of knowledge about this situation I think you are an American and you should know there is a world outside the US. - jozb, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1That link got cut off, here it is. By the way what do you mean "they probably wouldn't find anything useful to steal". Are you dumb, the kidney = $6000, and that is a lot of money for anyone in India.

- RhodesSkolar, on 02/10/2008, -0/+9What about the creeps that are buying them? They walk among us.
- QuickeningYak, on 02/10/2008, -0/+5Oh I know. There's probably some guy out there with 6 or 7 kidneys by now.
- Syntaxis, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3Hey, it's all relative. If a dad sells all he has to buy a kidney for his 7 year old daughter that gave up one of her own kidneys for her little brother and now needs one herself, everyone would go: "I would do the same". Or would you let your daughter die just so you can make the market for illegal kidneys smaller?
- Gabberwok, on 02/10/2008, -0/+8The sad thing is that very often they don't even need to use threats or force to get a kidney... the $2-3000 offered to kidney donors on the black market often represents several multiples of the average annual wages for a region, and the organ dealers then sell the kidneys for several times that... Increase the global standard of living and the black market for human organs will dry up, but anything short of that and it will probably remain alive and well.
- dagnome1984, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2"Amit Kumar is wanted for removing hundreds of kidneys from poor laborers often at gunpoint."
- Gabberwok, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1In this particular case it was often at gunpoint, but it happens a lot even without that and still has serious negative effects for those who donate. It really isn't something that should ever be done for money.
- Stochio, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1Another "should" with no "because."
- Gabberwok, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1Treating the poor as spare parts, even if you pay them for it, is generally considered morally repugnant. I suppose extreme free market advocates would say that if someone is willing to sell a kidney, they should be able to, but similar arguments could be made for selling a child into slavery.

- tgc1, on 02/10/2008, -1/+1You mean the organs that remove waste from your blood, and keep you alive? Uhh.... I don't think you get it.
