- maxvette, on 06/16/2009, -3/+22Not to be a jerk, But I'm not sure you could do LESS to support Iran's free elections than changing your goddamn avatar.
You want to do something real? Stage a REAL protest at your local government building. People are dying in the streets for the right to a fair election and you people are tinting your ***** avatars. Show some goddamn respect. - inactive, on 06/16/2009, -1/+11Or you could just manipulate your existing avatar to have a bright green tint, as I did.
- maxvette, on 06/16/2009, -1/+9Bury me to support Iran.
Drink Mountain Dew to support Iran (it's green)
Sit on your ass to support Iran
*****, actually talking to real people about this does more to support them than changing a god damn avatar color. - Aeron, on 06/16/2009, -1/+9tint your avatar green for Iran!
- Pimptastic, on 06/16/2009, -1/+6Green for the Iranian People!
- maxvette, on 06/16/2009, -1/+6This is the most profoundly empty gesture of all time. This is worse than douchebags who put "I support our troops" on their cars and then refuse to pay taxes. This is worse than people saying they support an ending to slave labor while shopping at Wal-Mart.
Its a show of solid douchebaggery. Its a show of how big of a douche can you possibly be.
Most of all this is a show of how little you understand about people other than yourself.
Do you honestly believe that ANYONE in iran gives a flying ***** what color your avatar is? If you want to support them, then support them. Do SOMETHING. This is an example of doing NOTHING. I wasn;t saying protesting at your local government building was the best way to do something. I was saying it was a way of doing ANYTHING remotely productive to raise awareness, help the american people understand why this is important and why they should care. Changing your avatar color makes you a useless assbag. - mewoot10, on 06/16/2009, -1/+5Symbolism is extremely effective and very necessary for any kind of massive change in society.
- mealian, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Thank you guys. It means a lot to us.
- Pimptastic, on 06/16/2009, -1/+4The real protests and vigils are being put together as I type. Since it is summer classes It is not easy to get people back to campus. But with all the avatars and things turning green, people setting up proxies for the Iranians. We are doing what we can.
Solidarity, I have loved that word since the first time I heard Lech Walesa talking about it. That word brought down an Empire. - Misterberu, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3Contributing.
- naatari, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Wooo St. Patrick's Day profile pics, let's get some green beers!
- sohnaz, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2I am an Iranian and I would like to say thank you to all kind people who are supporting Iranian and have changed their profile pics.
- Lynette1776, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1It seems the people of Iran are communicating through social networking sites. It's not like they get ABC, NBC or CBS. They will not be able to see support, no matter how well intended (I've been to a rally). They can go online to get information. They can see that people around the world support them. Don't you think that every little bit counts for something? And were you talking about "goddamn" respect??
- Nephersir7, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1So did I
- azusazdigg, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1I suggest this one. this is not meaningless Nereus90 !

- Nicholas1989, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Dugg so more people can read maxvette's posts above.
- mohajaf, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Well I am Iranian, so I used a map of Iran with a black band to symbolize mourning for those protesters who were brutally killed.
- Lynette1776, on 06/22/2009, -0/+0There is support in America for the people of Iran. I go green!
- MrFreeman, on 06/16/2009, -1/+1how about refreshing digg.com to support Iran, it will be just as meaningless and we will have more people supporting our cause.
- menendez, on 06/21/2009, -0/+0You can also go to http://www.avatint.com to change any avatar to any color to show support or protest.
- Nereus90, on 06/16/2009, -7/+7I'm not changing my icon. What a meaningless gesture.
- Junkyarddawg, on 06/20/2009, -1/+1Yes it is possible to do even less, you could do like Ron Paul and vote against a resolution supporting "all Iranian citizens who embrace the values of freedom, human rights, civil liberties and rule of law" and affirms "the importance of democratic and fair elections."
http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-06-19-voa53.cf ... - mohtasham, on 06/16/2009, -2/+1yup
- jasdf, on 06/16/2009, -6/+3Blah, blah. This is all I can do.
- Tiak, on 06/16/2009, -5/+1It's a show of solidarity, regardless of how small. A bunch of white people protesting at a random local government building isn't going to do much or broadcast a clear message at all. It isn't as if we have local Iranian embassies to protest at.
