- irfanmp, on 04/21/2009, -1/+133I'm all for that uniform change if it's anything like that thumbnail.
- sockpuppets, on 04/21/2009, -1/+101This seems like the breast solution to the problem.
- ajwilke, on 04/21/2009, -1/+85Dugg for thumbnail
- orientis, on 04/22/2009, -0/+59I came in to comment on the article but it's kinda pointless considering the thumbnail. This thread was lost before it began.
- DeadManWalking, on 04/22/2009, -0/+49Besides being a titillating read, the juggstaposition of the thumbnail and article serves to engrain it in one's mammary
- CrankMyBlueSax, on 04/21/2009, -2/+37I got totally distracted by the jubblies in the thumbnail.
- j0en, on 04/22/2009, -1/+32Why just riot cops? All cops should wear numbers so we can be sure who is in the wrong.
- cosmicr, on 04/22/2009, -1/+32thanks for keeping us abreast of the situation.
- dirtybully81, on 04/22/2009, -0/+27I think when breasts wear their breast gear and go out in breasts they should have to boobies, because otherwise titties won't be able to breasts or boobs or even *****!
- anubis2night, on 04/21/2009, -3/+27badge numbers across their uniform and a place for people to submit vids and pics of brutality
- madrid, on 04/22/2009, -0/+20Titties.
- sdcarter, on 04/22/2009, -1/+16With breasts like that... I predict a riot, I predict a riot.
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+15Oh dude, not fair. You took all of them!
- mjk340, on 04/21/2009, -0/+14I can't remember anything from the article but I have a strange desire for a glass of warm milk.
- sdcarter, on 04/22/2009, -0/+13I think that's the point of badge numbers. Good luck getting an officer to show it to you long enough to catch them though.
- nepidae, on 04/22/2009, -1/+13So because rioters act rowdy it is ok for cops to be anonymous and kill with no repercussions?
- sealbeater, on 04/22/2009, -0/+10Just a note, the guy who got beaten to death wasn't a rioter. If he were still alive, who do you think he would blame?
- Auraness, on 04/22/2009, -0/+10http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/72744/Chante ...
In case you missed the real article. - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+8A way to readily identify otherwise random-looking, weapon-brandishing officers who are just as susceptible to acting on poor judgment as those who they are rallying against?
Nonsense!
Oh, and boobs. - ichbinladen, on 04/22/2009, -1/+9Just make them wear Swastika armbands.
- GovernmentsGun, on 04/22/2009, -0/+8Cops hide their information for the same reason criminals do - they don't want to be identified or accountable.
- MCA2142, on 04/22/2009, -0/+7It's good to get one's thought off his/her chest.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 04/21/2009, -0/+6I guess they'd be good at strip searches then? ;-)
- enantiodromia, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6uhm, there would only be one active "#14" at one time. shouldn't be too hard to determine if it was the 89 year old guy or the 34 year old guy who was beating up crowds on any given day.
- Surferess, on 04/21/2009, -0/+6Or just have the riot police go shirtless, like that.
- CressCrowbits, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6Except the protesters haven't looted anything during a riot since ... the 1980s?
Protestors often wear masks because the police are photographing everyone and putting them on a huge database of protestors. Some of us like our privacy and don't like the idea of the state labelling anyone critical of the government 'troublemakers'. - deathcapt, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5Anyone saying that protesters should be identified is dumb. The cops are civil servants paid to protect citizens. Since the penalty for a cop beating a protester is nothing, and the penalty for a protester beating a cop is prison, I think it's fair to say that it's significantly more likely that a cop to strike a protester than the other way around. The police have a large amount of power and authority, and they should be held accountable for any abuses of that power. If Someone hits a cop who's just holding the line, then that guy should be beaten and thrown in prison. If a cop starts wailing on a guy who is just peacefully protesting then that cop should be thrown in prison as well. Once someone has surrendered to the police, they should not be injured any more. Batons aren't a way to make people do as you say, they're supposed to be for defense. Just like tasers. They're not supposed to be used as a way of persuading people to comply, they're supposed to be used for defense. Cops are very likely to abuse their power in these types of scenarios. So they should be accountable. If they aren't doing anything wrong, then why should they care about identifying themselves?
- CressCrowbits, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5No one threw rocks at the G20 protests.
- enantiodromia, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5your comment would be apt if it weren't for the fact that "forcing someone to show their ID under the threat of getting beaten up by 10 dudes with clubs and armor" isn't mutual.
- sealbeater, on 04/22/2009, -0/+4I think that's a great idea. Nice and big, front and back. Maybe even on sleeves and pants legs.
- Evolve, on 04/22/2009, -1/+5Ok I admit I clicked the link after looking at the thumbnail, didn't even bother reading the text.
- brim4brim, on 04/22/2009, -0/+4I think there is no decent argument against identifying police that behave inappropriately.
Especially after reading this part of the article (although considering the source, *ahem):
"Meanwhile Mr Tomlinson’s distraught father Jim, 69, was refusing to leave his room at a nursing home in Matlock, Derbyshire.
He was shattered after a second post-mortem showed his son died from internal bleeding, not a heart attack as first thought.
A spokeswoman at the home said: “He is really upset over this new development. After hearing the news yesterday, he has stayed in his room.”
A policeman is being quizzed on suspicion of manslaughter over the incident, in which Mr Tomlinson was hit on the legs with a baton and thrown to the ground.
" - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -8/+11Make rioters wear numbers too, when they violently attack other human beings.
- DiggCommando, on 04/22/2009, -1/+4Make them wear bright, happy color uniforms and drive pink trucks which make ice cream truck music.
- inactive, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3Good idea.
- Seann7656, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3Mmmmmm I'd definitely like to play numbers with those riot cops too.
- nfs3freak, on 04/22/2009, -1/+4yes because you wouldn't be able to identify the protestors by the way they got beaten up..
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2Or unique numbers?
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2ITT: Comments on the article. Everything else can be considered a comment on the thumbnail.
How is this not already happening? Isn't it part of law or something, seems like common sense, like how busses and trains always have the id number easily viewable. - FTWmovin2canada, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2http://www.dailystar.co.uk/gallery/1371/chantelle- ...
- Slackdragon, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2Numbering the riot cops might prevent them from making boobs of themselves.
- CressCrowbits, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2The same pictures show two guys smashing a bank window whilst being cheered on by a vast crowd of photographers.
Hardly a riot. - enantiodromia, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2how about bar codes?
with mobile phone and digital cameras everywhere, seems it would be trivial to write an app that scans an image file for a bar code and spits back a badge number, and an email link to the correct precinct. - sanman, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2she has a nice smile
if you're into that sort of thing - ABEL3616, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2Dugg for your attempt at subtlety!
- enantiodromia, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2uh, have you ever been to one of these "events"?
let me tell you, these "violent protesters" _always_ get caught and thrown into the patty wagon, along with anyone else who happens to be standing around.
then for the next 48 hours they are held while their papers are processed to separate the good eggs from the bad.
my point is, it doesn't work the other way around; the riot cops are not identifiable during the exact time and place where people are being beaten and killed. - enantiodromia, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2huh?
of course they are public property, that's the point. - mikembley, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2*Drool*
- uberduger, on 04/22/2009, -1/+3Dugg for your fantastic name. Nice.
- qaz0101, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1There will be a lot more riots if all the riot cops look like the thumbnail, and far fewer lawsuits about police beatings.
