- lucy22, on 08/18/2008, -1/+104They are raped and they are put in jailed.
How sick is this system. - chubbybubba, on 08/19/2008, -1/+97In afganistan women become rape victims and go in as criminals in the usa men go in criminals and come out rape victims.
- JakeAndersyn, on 08/18/2008, -8/+93G-d, this is horrible. As if rape isn't already one of the worst crimes imaginable.
- DrivingVertigo, on 08/19/2008, -6/+89All I have to say is, "LOL RELIGION."
- LowRentDiggs, on 08/19/2008, -1/+72Did you miss the article about the American Christians who let a 3 year old starve to death because he wouldn't say "amen" before dinner? It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with ignorance bred by anti-intellectualism and reason.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -15/+76The furthest right wing christians can approach this level of crap. There certainly is a detectable hatred of the sexually active, free willed woman amongst the American Right, whereas the sexually active (white) man is just sowing his oats or something. If you look at the motivation amongst American advocates who are into denying abortion, birth control and safe sex education a lot of it is really motivated by a desire to stop women from having a lot of sex with the partners of their choice, since that makes conservative Christians uncomfortable, rather than any genuine concern for those women.
Basically this is the same thing that motivates people in male-dominated Islamic countries. Some men will despise women who would reject them, and if men dominate society, there can very easily be a legal system that attempts to force unmarried women to accept whatever man happens to set his sites on her. It's a primitive thing, but it occurs in Hindu, Islamic and even Christian cultures at various points in history.
So what I'm saying is it's not like Islamic people genetically want this kind of society, it's purely a nurture thing, that could happen to a society of any religion if it's male dominated and chauvinistic. Let me put it this way: Ever know that guy who had no luck with women, thought women were all attracted to jerks, etc.? Imagine him in power and free to make whatever laws he wanted. That's basically what leads to a lot of these anti-female choice laws. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -11/+64As an Indian i would like to say ***** YOU. It was not too long ago that You Americans were lynching people for their colour and did we forget the small event called world war two whose main bases was racial superiority. We humans are a ***** up race an not just some part of it. Hell India has its problem and i am not gonna deny that but its no ways in hell as big of a scale as you think it is.
- purag66, on 05/13/2009, -7/+53No point in including India in that one. First of all, it's not part of the middle-east, second of all, the major religion there is Hindu. Third of all, Indian culture was relatively liberal (see the Kama Sutra) until the British (read: white people, Rudyard Kipling style) decided to march in and teach "culture" as the "white man's burden," including the submissive woman role.
So what you said was racist as hell, but also completely false. - Jibril98, on 08/18/2008, -4/+48Its religion related thing, which punish both the rapist and the victim for committed and adultery.. yes.. very horrible thing.. thats what happened when a country govern by religion.. following ancient law claimed came from god.. very resemble to the dark ages in Europe century a go when Vatican rules..
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -4/+43though i totally do not support anything in the quran, it's not right to blame everything on it.
the same could be said about any religious books and their starters.
It's ***** up people who come together and create rules to control everyone, regardless of their background (like NachoBusiness said) - GothAlice, on 08/18/2008, -53/+90It may sound racist, hell, it is, but it's also true.
There' something seriously ***** wrong with these people. Not sure if it's their nature, or nurture, that produces such ***** up brains, but there it is. The whole middle-east (does that include India? Well, I'm including India) is screwed up in the head.
India still has a caste system; transgendered people, as an example, are 'non-people'. It's horrible. - 4NDr01D, on 08/19/2008, -1/+37In Taliban Afghanistan Raped, you get Prison
in Capitalist America, Prison Rapes You - xero69, on 08/18/2008, -8/+40Every time I think America is broken a quick peek into other cultures reminds me that our "problems" are not as big as we make them out to be in our minds. How sad that a culture older than our own chooses to treat their women in such way.
- xaxxon, on 08/19/2008, -1/+33You don't think god ***** knows that g_d is god?
jesus ***** christ. - PainToad, on 08/19/2008, -3/+34Lucky we freed their country, O wait...
- whatthefu, on 08/19/2008, -9/+37It's totally true!!!!!! This may also sound kind of politically incorrect but everyone who lives in the United States is seriously ***** up. They are obese bible-thumpers who hate black people and who put everyone around them at risk with their stupidity. Everyone from Africa is uncivilized and not worth saving because they already all have AIDS.
- Maevirko69, on 08/19/2008, -1/+29They had it coming to them, she shouldn't have been wearing that tight-fitting mini-burqa.
- stutimandal, on 08/19/2008, -2/+27Islamic law from Quran requires four male witnesses of any rape. Either a rape is gang-rape, or a secluded single-person rape. In that case, Quran basically legitimizes most common cases of rape.
This may be a backlash to original Arabic tribal system of women owning tents and men paying a rent to live as their husbands. Soured by their treatment, perhaps the men reversed the social order. - IRoaChI, on 08/19/2008, -2/+26depends, is it a quick bullet to the head, or is it a long slow drawn out anal raping that you will never, ever, ever..... .. EVER FORGET!
I take the bullet - Divals, on 08/19/2008, -1/+25I'm assuming that was sarcasm, and digging you up based on that assumption.
- NikoKun, on 08/19/2008, -0/+23As if being in jail for running away with someone you actually love, isn't bad enough, they lock people up for being raped too?
-_- The sickest part is that they don't even jail some for that... They simply stone them to death... -_- - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -5/+26It's ***** like this that makes me people hate Islam. Muslims are real quick to point and say "we aren't all like this" and true, there probably is a majority that isn't, but they sure as hell aren't living in Afganastan. It's hard to believe this isn't the norm, when an entire ***** country supports it and Afganastan isn't the first muslim country to support cruelty towards women. And yeah, that is a western opinion and viewpoint, but what else would you call sentanceing a 15 yr old girl to 27 yrs of prison for running away from an old abusive husband and trying to find some peace? She didn't hurt anyone, she just wanted to be happy, she was abused. No one helped her and she tried to help herself and now the all peaceful and justice loving Islam has served her. It's disgusting.
- drmobutu, on 08/19/2008, -2/+20You know what happens in Soviet Russia?
- oMeSSiaHo, on 08/19/2008, -3/+21I think this has less to do with religion and more to do with culture. There are plenty of mainly Muslim countries who do not do this. Plus the people in that area are *****. During the Afghan war with Russia they raped, cut the balls off and dismembered the Russian soldiers.
Before you start yelling "Durrr Islam bad" realize that this is a very rural ass-backwards area with a long history of ***** up people. - mattlohkamp, on 08/19/2008, -1/+18***** self-censorship ***** needs to stop.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+17Yes All native Americans live in India.
- NightRiderkami, on 08/19/2008, -9/+26Here's the other half of the problem:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Bible - Riffraffs, on 08/19/2008, -10/+26Muslim isn't a race, it's a religion
- drmobutu, on 08/19/2008, -4/+20Kinda like Southern Baptists...
- ZenMojo, on 08/19/2008, -4/+20You're right, it does sound racist.
Eastern Europe and Asia traffic in child hookers at incredible rates, some countries in Africa have female genital mutilation. Then again, some countries in Africa had woman's suffrage before the United States and many would balk at the fact that Americans execute the mentally disabled and children.
Didn't we cause more than a hundred thousand casualties with the Iraq invasion and a subsequent estimated 1,000,000 dead from the following civil war? Didn't we firebomb to death 1/3rd of Japan's population and just as they asked for terms of surrender wipe out another couple hundred thousand with nuclear weapons just to scare Russia?
If you want to talk "***** up" and "barbarism," you might want to throw in our own fetishistic militancy and murderous bigotry toward foreign nations.
And don't try to turn this into an "America-hating, foreign-apologist" ***** diatribe to change the subject. We ***** up and kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions and we pretend like it never happened. I'm sure Afghanis are quite capable of pretending like no one ever gets raped, too.
We need to focus on cleaning up our own domestic and foreign policy ***** because as long as we keep walking around the neighborhood like we own it, we'll just leave a foul, stinking brown trail everywhere we go for people to point at. - LowRentDiggs, on 08/19/2008, -0/+15Please explain how Sharia law is becoming the norm in Europe. My money is on you throwing out a few examples of bad rulings from a couple of judges and saying it's proof that all of Europe will be under Sharia law within 5 years.
- kushin, on 08/19/2008, -1/+16Somehow their sad plight reminds me of this quote. By Don Quixote.
Miguel de Cervantes: I've been a soldier and a slave. I've seen my comrades fall in battle or die more slowly under the lash in Africa. I've held them in my arms at the final moment. These were men who saw life as it is, yet they died despairing. No glory, no brave last words, only their eyes, filled with confusion, questioning "Why?" I don't think they were wondering why they were dying, but why they had ever lived. When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? To surrender dreams - -this may be madness; to seek treasure where there is only trash. Too much sanity may be madness! But maddest of all - -to see life as it is and not as it should be.
It is indeed "Life as it is" for them.
Quote in Voice form - from the Man of La Mancha:
http://www.ambient-nights.info/preview/an13/previe ... - Youreallinsane, on 08/19/2008, -9/+24OH YESSS...America has such a moral authority over Afghanistan...as we put 14 year olds on sex offender registries for life for ***** their 13 year old girl friends because technically their not allowed to consent. Oh we're so much more evolved than Afghanistan.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -8/+23I hope to God that Islam is a dying religion.
- whatthefu, on 08/19/2008, -6/+20Have you actually read it?
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+15They are a product of their environment - they have a ***** up environment and they grow ***** up. That's what happens. I've whitenessed some pretty ***** up situations before - not directly, but still.
- arandia, on 08/19/2008, -0/+14Afghanistan doesn't deserve to have women. We should grant all the women in Afghanistan asylum and then pave the entire country.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1350 years ago, 85% of white Americans thought it was just fine to descriminate based on race. 100 years ago hundreds of people were being lynched every year because of skin color and we took land away from millions more for the same reason. So what you mean is, in recent history, America hasn't been quite so nutty. Man our genetics improved fast!
- LowRentDiggs, on 08/19/2008, -3/+14Thanks for proving my point *****, you gave 2 examples of bad rulings just as I said you would.
- JamJosh, on 08/19/2008, -5/+17Maybe they should watch more LIFETIME television and learn how to fight back.
- zmjone2992, on 08/19/2008, -4/+16G-d. wow...
- YukosEyes, on 08/19/2008, -3/+14Eve Ensler, who created the Vagina Monologues, was molested by her father as a young girl despite coming from a seemingly perfect upper-middle class community in the US, and dreamed of having someone saving her. As an adult, she created what she wish existed for her. She created the V-Day movement, which has raised over $60 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it. With the profits, she has also funded over 5,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses (that is places where women and girls can run away) in Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt and Iraq. She is a very close supporter of the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) and went to Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban, and organized the "Afghani Women's Summit For Democracy."
She talked about it on TED:
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/eve_ensler_on_h ... - HamNCheese, on 08/19/2008, -5/+16God damn, I'm glad our "spread freedom" campaign has been soooo successful....
- AndrAIa, on 08/19/2008, -1/+12It seems as if rape is far more commonplace over there than here. It's odd because you can see a girl walking down the street with a miniskirt and a tank top, showing tonnes of cleavage and yet she probably feels safe from rape. Women over there are very covered-up yet they keep facing sexual assault. It's at this point that you realize that any rules concerning, "modesty" (in the sense of a dress-code) to keep a woman chaste and away from men coveting her body: seem useless.
I am not a male so I may not understand the mentality. Perhaps it is the mystery itself that makes it more desirable or (more likely) the sexual repression. Either way, it really makes you appreciate masturbation and pornography. Not to say that just because a man isn't getting his jollies that it validates such a violent act but, that it's probably what's keeping so many men (who would otherwise act like an animal) in check. - LowRentDiggs, on 08/19/2008, -3/+13"but the nuttiness is not nearly as widespread in the US. "
Until the late 60s it was with black men being jailed for any reason that could be cooked up. Not much different really. There are plenty of people here who would gladly go back to that sytem. - Testiculese, on 08/19/2008, -1/+11Yes, actually, we do.
We also put adults on sex offender lists for peeing on a tree in the park and a woman sees him. - barc0de, on 08/19/2008, -2/+11To think - one of the main arguments for the wearing of the burqa is to protect women from rape. This blows that whole logic apart. It is just a fundamentally mysogynistic culture.
And it is a cultural problem - not a genetic or religious one. - What book are these fun little passages from...
"If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her."
"If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife." - Lewie, on 08/19/2008, -3/+12If I'm not mistaken, there are Jewish rules against writing down the name of God, and using his name in vain.
- AeonTorpor, on 08/19/2008, -2/+11Criminals go in YOU... and you still come out a rape victim.
- stutimandal, on 08/19/2008, -5/+14India is not in middle east. Caste system is followed by a small fraction of society.
Society has "gene mixing" thumb-rules called as gotra system which is not a caste system.
All the big cities have a reasonably big fraction of gays/lesbians and they are not ostracized (except in jokes). Finally, mention of self-sexuality and *****-sexuality of women is found in Valmiki Ramayana (and not in a bad light but as an opulence of the demon's kingdom).
Next time speak about what you know in detail and not just as a second hand story somewhere. India is far superior to the west and the middle east in terms of tradition. -
