- redrock34, on 10/11/2007, -6/+242Wow, I guess this is one of the few occasions where you can put "BREAKING" in the title.
- Obligation, on 10/11/2007, -1/+121The problem with Digg is that even if you can get the story up within 10 minutes of an event, it won't hit the front page for 6 hours and 15 minutes.
- cyberdork, on 10/11/2007, -3/+87Nice title, especially then this will hit the frontage a couple of hours later.
- RussellDovey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+46It's good to see diggers focussing on the important things about a lethal earthquake. "Will this delay the next Squaresoft game?"
- Br0wn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+48-unsynched- GODZILLA!
- gullevek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+42And I slept through that. In Tokyo it was just a small rattle ...
- TopherT, on 10/11/2007, -1/+37All we have to worry about is california breaking off from the united states to go chill with hawaii... Alaska can come too. THE END!
- NicksVideo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39Thankfully, he didn't.
But "happened 10 minutes ago" looks stupid now. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+36They could have a Breaking News section. And have an intern or somebody (cough cough, I'm free) to check it for legit news. and if it looks legit and checks out, then Digg can bump the story up or something.
- Brad324, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33in a related note, sumos have begun testing wii fit. Simultaneously.
- RussellDovey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31No, you eejit, he meant because the ground was literally BREAKING.
- V4nd4L22, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31I'm just surprised.
- Waskonator, on 10/11/2007, -18/+40So, whatever happened to California falling into the ocean? It seems much more plausible that Japan would. I mean...(gulp) and it's gone. Goodbye Playstation.
- Kurisuku, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21I'm surprised YOU'RE not a grammar champ.
- opiniastrous, on 10/11/2007, -11/+27accident. Digg down.
- firebhaal, on 10/11/2007, -11/+27My heart goes out to people killed and injured
- thomas, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20Neither California or Japan are going to fall into the ocean.
- dezmo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16you act like that would be a bad thing
- iamtheinternet, on 10/11/2007, -10/+23On purpose. Digg up.
- oneoverzero, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15wow. I'm honestly surprised cnn responded so fast
- TangentThought, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13"Goodbye Playstation."
By that logic, Nintendo would go too. - RussellDovey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I'm not sure they can use your heart. It'll go rotten before it gets there.
- SeaOverflowing, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11This is an ordinary earthquake for Japan.
- rainergamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I'm going to invent a device where bash quotes are stricken from your vocabulary
- opiniastrous, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Yeah, and technically, it's a 'Strong' earthquake, not a 'Major' earthquake...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richter_scale - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I'm flying to Osaka on Friday... hope nothings damaged. Last year when I was in Japan I woke up at like 6am to a 5.something earthquake and all i remember was looking up at the ceiling lamp swinging around and thinking "im from the bay area, i know what this is, back to sleep"
- drake77, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9FTA: "Small fire at nuclear power plant outside Kashiwazaki, Tokyo Electric Power said"
In the newer version of the article [http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/07/16/japan.quake.ap/index.html] the headline now reads "Radioactive leak, tremors follow Japan quake"
FTA: "The plant leaked about a half-gallon of water in a building housing one of its reactors, said Katsuya Uchino, a Tokyo Electric Power Co. official. Uchino said the water contained a tiny amount of radioactive material -- a billionth of the guideline under Japanese law -- and is believed to have flushed into the Sea of Japan."
Modern nuclear plants, especially in earthquake zones like Japan, are designed (even overdesigned) to handle even the worst of natural and man-made disasters. I wish the media wouldn't sensationalize small issues with nuclear power plants during events like this. An amount of radioactive material "a billionth of the guideline under Japanese law" is not newsworthy in my book. This is pure sensationalism. - hfactor, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11hahaha old people? *shakes head*
- RussellDovey, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Damn right. I live in Suzuki, so I should know.
Hell, if it was a big one my Korean friend who lives in Samsung would have felt it. - Sheff, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11That intern would be trying to sift through iphone and ron paul stories.
- ij00mini, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Nah, their style would be to write an algorithm for it. Good idea, though.
- curtisdead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8it was to whoever died...
- hulez, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12u shook your head? PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN

- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6oh. Well then we should have them reprogram the earthquake machine....
honestly, do you think any city would welcome a destructive earthquake? - vroom101, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10CNN link with pictures:

- NinjaBoy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5godzilla still at large
- HarryBauzonia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Well said.
They should be much more concerned about the decaying nuclear subs the Russians have in Vladivostok than some tiny amount of barely radioactive water. - spudmanster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I wouldnt of wanted to be near that one! I live about 20 miles North of Tokyo 26 floors up and almost crapped my pants when it hit! My building was swaying for a good few minutes.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This just adds to the stigma against Nuclear power which is really the direction our country needs to go if they want to cut back on greenhouse emissions
