MN School ProhibitsPro-Life Student's Shirt Against Abortion
lifenews.com — Hutchinson, MN (LifeNews.com) -- A Minnesota school district is the subject of a lawsuit from a pro-life law firm after it prohibited a student from wearing a shirt that condemned abortion. The Thomas More Law Center filed the suit Wednesday on behalf of the student and his mother.

- MrsSpooky, on 06/02/2008, -3/+20Yep, they know they don't have a leg to stand on, so they hope that squashing other ideas will make their position somehow valid.
- kirralin23, on 06/03/2008, -3/+20Somehow I think that if the T-shirt was pro abortion (murder of small children) it would have been allowed, protected as free speech.
- Qong, on 06/06/2008, -1/+9This is disgusting. As long as these T-shirts didn't have graphic content on them, pictures of abortions or something inappropriate for school similar to that; if they simply had the text from the article written on them, then this is a huge violation of that child's rights. Public schools should not have any say in how their students dress or express their opinions.
Surely some crazy teacher disagreed with the student and made a huge fuss about it to get her way. Of course, her way was to strip the student of his rights. Hopefully everyone involved is fired and the school district is forced to pay for the consequences of their actions. - washwords, on 06/06/2008, -2/+4well.... i'm all for free speech, ESPECIALLY for students. But this part of the article made no sense to me.
"It alleges the district violated the pre-teen's free speech rights of Jeanne Ibbitson's son and that he suffered "irreparable harm."
"My son kept getting singled out," Ibbitson told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "He should be able to wear those shirts at school, and they decided that he can't. It's not right.""
umm, wasn't that what he was going for by wearing a t-shirt that called attention to an issue. I agree that students should be able to wear what they want, but I'm not "disgusted" by a teacher making a rule. What if the shirt had a curse word on it or "sexually suggestive" words or images or "I hate X group." I'm suspicious that it "just had the text of the article on it." And I'm suspicious that it wasn't worn TO cause a controversy. but then I'm naturally cynical. it's what made me a good (student) journalist. - lodibug3, on 06/06/2008, -2/+8As a homeschool mom, I'm thankful for the organization HSLDA. We depend upon them for defending us in court against discrimination such as this. This family needs our prayers... and blogging certainly doesn't hurt!

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. - vagabond45, on 06/06/2008, -3/+6When I was in school in the 1970's in Minnesota, I learned that these types of things only happened in Communist countries. And, only THEIR schools practiced this type of propaganda. I wonder what they teach about Communism now? That it is something to look forward to and how good it is? Education now takes on a whole new meaning in this country as well.
- SampleX, on 06/08/2008, -2/+1" I learned that these types of things only happened in Communist countries."
Conclusion? What kind of countries are we living in in the West... now, here's a hint... 'Communism' is not the root - its simply another expression of the same symptoms... In the 1950's some very powerful men managed to hoodwink Americans by having them chase round after communists as if Communism itself was strictly the enemy... yet oddly, the Commies were supposedly rounded up, while their principles and their values became the foundation of 'progressive' America. Conclusion? Either America is now 'communist', or the values embodied in 'Communism' pre-date 'Communism' as we see it and the values embodied in 'Socialism' pre-date 'Socialism' as we know it, and if this is true, where did they come from? Is it possible that 350 years ago men sat round a table and agreed to do this to us in the future, under the control and dictation of their progeny? What do you call it when a handful of the wealthiest men in the world agree together to change society and the global scene in very specific, prescribed ways, using their own offspring in very specific, prescribed ways, and three hundred and fifty years of the unpredictable winds of change have failed to disrupt such a long-term plan in any way, shape or form, that those who were prophecied as having power and wealth DO have all the power and wealth, and the changes prescribed have all been made, and the means of change have all been accurately predicted... What do they call that?
I think it begins with 'c'...
I know some folks, and indeed the beneficiaries of this ancient plan call it 'coincidence', but there's another word for it...
I can't quite remember what it....
Oh... yes... I've got it... 'conspiracy.'
