- g30ff, on 10/10/2007, -2/+48From the sound of things it should have been titled "Lawmaker apologizes for Muslim remarks, Hindus still ***** out of luck"
- RollFizzlebeef, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38In other words, he's sorry he said it on the record. I'm sure the bigot still feels the same way.
- Pix869, on 10/10/2007, -6/+38What the hell?
How can you say something so obviously offensive, and then later say "oh, I didn't mean any harm" and expect people to believe it?
If I went up to someone and said "***** you, no one wants you here", and then said "Oh, but I mean no harm", it doesn't really matter. The harm was done. They are letting his ignorance off a little too lightly. - hassanchop13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27for a guy who lived 200 years ago, i am truly impressed with thomas jefferson
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26When you said slur in the title I was expecting some sort of racial term. At least it isn't though, but it's still quite ignorant.
- sherifftruman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Sure the founding fathers didn't expect a Muslim in the House, but Sali was implying more than the literal meaning of his sentence. The founding fathers would be shocked by SO MANY things that are different today, but Sali was just spouting some intolerant crap.
What does Keith Ellison have to do with pushing religion on people? As far as I am aware, he's been a lot better than Christian members of congress. How about criticizing Sali? Or maybe you didn't read the article; it says at the end he tried to link abortion to breast cancer, of course because he was trying to justify forcing his religious beliefs on Americans. - armourer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Article VI of the Constitution--
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."
No, I'm sure they NEVER envisioned other religions.. - hassanchop13, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19and he was sworn in on the quran owned by Thomas Jefferson. What an ***** that thomas jefferson was /sarcasm
- Riffraffs, on 10/10/2007, -7/+23Muslim and Hindu should be treated the same as Christianity and Jewdisem: irrelevant magical thinking that has no place in the government of any country.
- Orbiter9211, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Its interesting that these senators never talk about the fact that Income tax was never imagined by the founding father either. Or even handing the power to print money to a private bank like the Federal Reserve.
"Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies." Thomas Jefferson - hoopjones, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I bet he thinks the founding fathers never envisioned non-white free immigrants either...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13He should have said 'With all due respect', that entitles you to say anything afterwards. And thank you baby jesus.
- Rodman930, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10/Sarcasm
I hope... - smegthelight, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Hey, here's a thought....
NO PRAYER for ANY Religion.
That would be the application of what the founding father's wanted - Separation of Church and State. - realgoat21, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9yeah...thats what we get for never being part of any terrorist attacks against the US
- Richandler, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Hinduism has been around longer than Christians believe the earth is old.
And while were at it Chirtianity has no right to say there is a war on it with statemens like this man's. - ganjadude4391, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10OR hes trying to save face
- zestyhedgehog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Judging by his other comments (as for example, "God does not tolerate nations who violate His perfect morality. It is His will that America continue to be His "City on a Hill" to cast judgment on wickedness in our world. If we deny Him, America will fall") it wasn't sarcasm.
- TexMurphy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7"Sali responded days later, sending Ellison an e-mail explaining he meant no offense."
Only a right wing republican would apologize through hotmail.com for ethnic slurs. - daGUY, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Oh no! Freedom of religion! In America! Yeah, that's not what the founding fathers intended at all.
- ill0gical, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6buried as inaccurate. no slurs were used in the throwing of this insult.
- Rodman930, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7um...WTF R U TALKIN BOUT?
- grenden, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"May God cast his judgment on America."
Thanks Leo, now we're *****. - gingerbreadcat, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Good for him. Though he should still apologize for the Hindu remarks, he deserves credit for being man enough to admit to a mistake. And good for the other guy, who didn't make a big deal about it.
- BarneyF, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4For example, I don't think the founding fathers really expected Blacks, Indians or Jews in the Senate did they?
- afruff23, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7I applaud your spelling of "Judaism" Riffraffs.
- suxmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -14/+18Thank God or Allah or whoever that he at least retracted his idiocy - unlike some PRESIDENTS I know of
- chrisdelta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Seems like the good Senator should brush up on the Constitution...
- l33tboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Your very statement has implied that you think that Keith Ellison is a suicide bomber, which is a certainly premature to assume. A true indication that the government's anti-Muslim propaganda machine is working like a charm (be it unfortunately).
- Swift2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5He means, "I'm sorry the wrong people heard me." Falwell himself did a last interview with CNN, during which it was clear that his famous comments after 9/11 -- about how it was God's punishment for gays, and women's liberation and the like -- for which he "apologized," was something he still believed. The towers fell, you see, because God was punishing us for abortions. Really. There's only two groups of people in the world who believe that: the Muslim fanatics and the Christian ones.
- peterinjapan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4See also, My Mon Thomas Paine, he don't shiv.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Paine
Be cool if I was related to him, but I doubt it. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3except the attacks on our own Muslims of course
- arunforce, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7BLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! BLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
- oneblackcitizen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3why apologize if that's what you meant to say? I guess it's supposed to make everything all better, but I never understood that concept.
- didgameta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4A man can have his opinions, can't he?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2To be honest, Hinduism is NOT like those religions, sure there are sacrificial wives and untouchables, but they both come from society, not the religion. Hinduism is quite simple actually, just live and let live.
- livevil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They said the same thing at our high school when a group of Muslims wanted to be let out early for prayer.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Saying that science has disproved all religion is pretty stupid and ignorant.
- IsmailOo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2very rude, what a *****... if he said obv he meant it, and was thinking of that for a while to actually build up the guts to say it to a reporter... ***** him now trying to save his asss, ***** pussy *****.
- FoxtrotUSAF, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2At least he didn't avoid apologizing by saying something stupid like he was jet lagged or something.
- Matthew720, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Funny how people like you get all worked up and upset when some librul burns the flag. Then, they're unAmerican pieces of crap. But, when it's something YOU enjoy hearing and doing, it's freedom of speech. Nice one, captain double standards.
- teamgwho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I applaud Mr Ellison for taking the high road on this. I am sure he is used to it by now but he could've taken this as a chance to bloviate and gain face time. He didn't. Bravo sir. We can debate the depths of Sali's racial tolerance or intolerance, but Ellison's right. Sometimes people say stupid things or say things badly. Bill Clinton once said "African-Americans watch the same news at night that ordinary Americans do." Of course he meant "the rest of us" but when he said ordinary it made it sounds like blacks weren't ordinary.
That said, I do think Sali's a tool at best and a racist at worst. - Matthew720, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If the Supreme Court had any cojones they'd abolish the federal reserve. Alas, money talks and ............
- a1532b, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yea, let's forget the words of advice our founding father's left us. I mean, they're dead so it can't be TOO accurate. Duh.
/sarcasam, because you probably can't pick up on it by yourself. - Zoshchenko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You don't have to be smart to get elected to Congress. You just have to convince a majority of dumb people to vote for you.
- Matthew720, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"I am sure he is used to it by now but he could've taken this as a chance to bloviate and gain face time."
The last thing he needs is someone criticizing him for taking advantage of an incident like this to promote his own agenda and some people, especially FOX NOISE, are good with that type of rhetoric. - zacharygriggs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1how about read past the preamble.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"but his vision ensured liberty."
I'm almost certain he would disagree with that today. -
