Law school, civil rights appeal to Muslims
contracostatimes.com — Though firm numbers are elusive the number of Muslim lawyers and law students is growing. The National Association of Muslim Lawyers, which began in 1996 with 24 members, now has 500. Half of the 100 members of the Bay Area Association of Muslim Lawyers, known as BAAML, are law students, a sign of the swelling ranks.

- otherland, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Muslim by name maybe. I'd bet 10 to 1 many are leftists that have nothing in little with the community and plan to make a career out of defending the terrorists in Gitmo.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They would be smart to do so. There is quite a large market down there in need of their services.
- CausticNoise, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Terrorists, you say? Some of them, surely. Perhaps even most. But there have been no trials, no evidence drawn against them, and some have even been shown to be innocent. Perhaps it's the latter demographic that these contemptible leftists are fighting for.
- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4mmmm More "left people eat babies and want us dead" talk from Otherland... Get a clue.. your a Fanatic... and nobody like fanatics on EITHER side of the spectrum.....
- scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I agree otherland people should be detained for an unspecified length of time without access to legal defense or counsel, and if they want to use their rights we'll know they are actually terrorists so we should leave them there.

oh and way to blame the lawyers that want to defend people and not the system that causes that need - otherland, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1"But there have been no trials, no evidence drawn against them, and some have even been shown to be innocent. They are basically prisoners of war. Prisoners of war do not go to trial. They get released when the hostilities are over.
They can't be official prisoners of war because the Geneva Convention only applies to sovereign nations and the Taliban are no longer a sovereign entity. - scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2you cant have it both ways, either they are prisoners of war or they are not. And it looks like they aren't so they should not be denied their rights
http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/07/01/gonzales.gitmo/index.html - otherland, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1They get treated the same as POWs are. They can't officially be POWs for obvious reasons. When the hostilities are over they can be released.
- otherland, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1They are just typical students and lawyers that want people to give them the attention they crave. They have little to do with Islamic community which is solidly conservative. 82% voted for President Bush in 2000, (8% voted for Nader just because he's Arab like a lot of Muslims in America are, still dumb reason if you ask me).
These attentionwhores will only serve to create a backlash.
