Latino Immigrants Suddenly Avoiding The DMV
portlandtribune.com — The number of Spanish-speaking people taking Oregon ’s driving test plummeted in February, just as Gov. Kulongoski’s executive order took effect requiring test-takers to provide valid Social Security numbers.

This whole process is backwards. We need to solve the root of this problem by changing our immigration laws, then actually ENFORCING them. Its not the immigrant part that bothers me particularly, its the illegal part.
If our government does not enforce our current laws, then what are we? If we ignore the rule of law then we are not truly a Constitutional republic. If we cannot enforce our current laws then why make them? Either way, the problem goes much deeper than just immigration. Our entire government is riddled with corruption and ignorance to the rule of law. We need to do a few things to fix this:
1. ANYone who fails to uphold the oath they took as a public servant to defend the Constitution should be removed from office immediately.
2. Revisit the values of immigration and reform the laws. Bigotry should not be the measure by which we determine the value of immigration, but neither should it be exploitation, redistributive ideals or guilt.
3. Enforce the damn law. Our government is meaningless if it does not uphold the rules it creates. Too many in government benefit from the current system and it doesn't help anyone but themselves.
I myself have no strong feelings one way or the other on what the laws aught to be. I don't mind mexicans, but I would mind if I had to pay more taxes to fund a separate public schooling system for spanish, for instance. As long as I was left be, they could come here all they want. More power to them.
