- RALBAII, on 07/09/2008, -0/+17The latest sign of a federal government gone corrupt. These bracelets will become a norm from BIG Brother to all American sheeple. This will be the norm in everyday life and not just for boarding airplanes. This is a goal of terrorism...restrict your life! Moreover, terrorists don't even have to get on the airplane to cause havoc. All suicidal terrorists have to do is coordinate their attacks on a heavily traveled holiday then set off their suit case bombs while hundreds of people are gathered around the security entry points at airports, This will shut down the airline system nation wide. This same tactic can also be used on bus stations, train stations, cruise ship lines, etc. Who in the government makes these decisions such as the taser bracelet?
- Salesti, on 07/09/2008, -0/+12The ones who are chasing their tails. It makes them feel important.
- AThoughtOrTwo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Feel free to give them even more ideas...
- AThoughtOrTwo, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1This has been really bugging me. IF they really wanted to 'keep people in line' during a flight, why bother with some stupid bracelet? I would put the device in the seat. (You might get some weirdo who makes a commotion JUST TO GET shocked, but hey...)
- PappyPapillon, on 07/09/2008, -1/+17LOL! They can kiss my pale-white Irish-American butt. Fortunately I am blessed in being able to fly my own craft for most any domestic trip I may need to take, but I'd drive, nay, I'd walk, before I'd let the government put anything like that on me.
- Salesti, on 07/09/2008, -0/+11Tell 'em, Pappy!!
- yaridanjo, on 07/09/2008, -1/+12That will make foreign tourists feel welcome! Soon, the only foreigners visiting us will be illegals wanting to take our jobs!
- DuggDowner, on 07/09/2008, -5/+1You must have a ***** job.
- john1944, on 07/09/2008, -2/+4I don't fly anymore... but if I did and they shocked me with one of those mother *****, as soon as I got it off I would strangle one of the TSA or airline *****. Oh... I have a taser too. Ah haaa!
- seala, on 07/09/2008, -1/+9Obviously you don't want tourists in the USA.
- gardenerbk, on 07/09/2008, -0/+16I suppose had these been in effect on 9/11 -
what would have happened??
The hijackers in the plane that went down in Pennsylvania would have done the following:
1) removed their own bracelets
2) taken over the plane and gotten stewardess' lasers etc.
3) immobilised the passengers (wearing these bracelets)
4) crashed the plane into the target in DC (Capitol? White House? FAA?)
5) killed off some of the idiots proposing this idea.
Doesn't anyone ever think these idiotic things through??
aarrggghhh!!!- Smoove, on 07/09/2008, -0/+11Yep, that was my first thought too. If this goes through, I give it a week before some teenager in Fresno comes up with a way to taze the entire planeload.
- Brumbar, on 07/09/2008, -0/+13Cool, another truly stupid idea emanating from the North Lands. Actually there are plenty enough people coming up with truly stupid notions here. As previous posts stated, this one has not been thought through, just as tertiary effects of Real ID were never worked out.
These bracelets if used would be very costly as they would have to be a one time use item, like hospital ID Bands which are not designed to be easily removes unless destroyed. The costs would be passed onto the passengers because the airlines would not be compelled of foot the bill. That's business.
Then there is the human element, Who and what conditions decide a threat? Should a Stew become irked with an annoying passenger, and the zap the annoyance with electric juice. What of passengers with medical conditions or medical implants? The potential for responsible liability on the part of the airlines makes this concept not very appealing.
In the article it alluded that a designated Steward or Stewardess could activate the whole grid electrocuting all passengers or zap select individuals with a pointer device. The designated Stew has to get withing 10 inches of the person to administer the voltage. 9/11 was carried out by guys with box cutters. The average threat zone of a person armed with a knife is 6 to 15'. A individual armed with a blade can draw the weapon and close the distance to striking range astonishingly fast. No Stew in their right freaking mind is going to want to go withing ten inches of a threat or hijacker just to be able to paint the band on the perpetrators wrist so that they can deliver the jolts.
This whole concept is what is called, not a good idea.- AThoughtOrTwo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3I also had the thought:
What if the darn thing is activated by accident? Perhaps by someone doing something in the galley - and they don't notice it? Does it keep zapping like that pink bunny? zZZT zZZT zZZT Oh, Alice, go check passenger #12, I think he just got zapped?
- AThoughtOrTwo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3I also had the thought:
- jellytoast, on 07/09/2008, -1/+11This sounds like a good idea for congress and other government officials as well. The threat and harm congress can create far outweighs anything a madman might do on a single plane. Congress's actions affect hundreds of millions or more, if not the entire world. I say collar every politician and put the zap buttons in the streets. Perhaps some type of rules, checks and balances could apply, to prevent abuse. Lets see, maybe only voters and tax payers would be allowed to access the buttons. Potential button pushers should probably be asked to count to 10 first. Seriously, a very great idea. They want to collar us like cattle, I say collar the politicians.
- USNavyBlue, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4LOL - That is a wonderful idea. I say use dog collars. Every time the dog barks it shocks the dog. The collar has levels 1 through 10 built in for the level of severity. I say put it on 10 the most serve. When a member of Congress chooses to vote on something stupid or disobey the Constitution everyone should press the remote control and shock the crap out of the Senator/Congressmen. The first person I would like to shock is Pelosi and Reed.
- isparadiselost, on 07/09/2008, -0/+14If security is such a huge concern, why is the border wide open? The only security the American people need is from the criminals in DC. No ***** way I'll be wearing one of those.
- acb777, on 07/09/2008, -0/+11All one would have to do to defeat the bracelet is cover it with something the laser light cannot penetrate. For example, clothing, magazine, putting hand in picket. Use your imagination. As always; "The inmates are running the asylum".
- watnext, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2A century or so ago a scientist named Faraday found out all electronic waves such as radio waves may be blocked out by covering the room, bracelet or whatever with copper. This was known as the Faraday cage. During the eighties I witnessed a demonstration of a Faraday cage. A radio would play correctly but when inside the cage all input was blocked. Likewise the TV with These ankle bracelets some prisoners have to wear could be easily made useless. I'm not trying to defeat the laws but facts are facts.
- jesusis1, on 07/09/2008, -0/+10This is nothing more than another attempt at government control. This time it includes another form of imprisonment. Then comes the question of what are the chances of an accidental use against a passenger. Then comes the big one. What happens if it is used against a person with a pacemaker/defibrillator and that person dies! Major lawsuit. It is time for We The People to stand up and take our country back from the idiots that we unfortunately voted into office. Let's veto their employment in our government. God bless the USA.
- IPublius, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1410 inches? That seems like a fairly wide margin for something as crowded as an airplane. Odds are they would hit multiple people.
"Oops, sorry about that. I was aiming for gentleman to your right. Don't worry, the twitching will stop within ten minutes or so." - vpats, on 07/09/2008, -0/+11Holy Camel Dung, I'd like to strap one of these around the neck of this "government official" who actualy thought this was a cool idea. What will these morons come up with next?
- Ruler4you, on 07/09/2008, -0/+11They can kiss my sorry ass! It'll be a cold day before I ever fly for any thing I don't absolutely HAVE to fly for.
- Temlakos, on 07/09/2008, -0/+10Add this to the above: put that kind of power into the hands of a flight attendant, and the ski-masks will simply recruit someone to pose as a flight attendant in order to get hold of this device. That would worse than defeat the purpose.
- garclar, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8It may be time to look at alternative transportation. This goes beyond the pale, believe me this is treating your meal ticket like cattle and I for one would not travel by airline. There is an alternative however. Small jet planes are now in vogue that seat 4 to 6 people. You can also travel with someone else to lessen the cost. if the airlines adopt this I'm done flying and wiith all the other abuses that go on in flight now this just pushes it over the top for me......gkb
- drachemorder, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7This has GOT to be some kind of sick joke. Expecting everybody to submit to this would cause a flat-out riot among fliers.
- fearziz, on 07/09/2008, -5/+0This is funny...
- spinningplates2, on 07/09/2008, -8/+0It's not that bad of an idea. People are thinking of ways to make people safe when flying.
- Christianptriot, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Why not rig every commercial airliner with the ability to gas everyone into unconsciousness at the first sign of trouble?
- spinningplates2, on 07/09/2008, -1/+0Why not look at the silver lining insted of the cloud. EVERYTIME
- Christianptriot, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Why not rig every commercial airliner with the ability to gas everyone into unconsciousness at the first sign of trouble?
- nippinawassee, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7Always looking for the quick, easy 'solution' to a problem rather than tackle it at the source. Close our borders, period. All the bull of the islamics being here for a 'better way of life' altho not citizens of our country, all the bull of the 'students' who flood our country from islamic terrorist countries, and this is what they opt for to prevent another 911. Canada? Canada, the haven for the scumbags? Didn't some of the 911 flight crews come in over the border from Canada? the politicians in our country want anything that will not be construed as racism, or any other derogatory situation - anything but standing up and saying: NO - you're not welcome in our country - get out... It's not like we NEED foreigners to come here to do the work - we have a boatload of people who have worked the SSI, SS system into the ground who are capable of working regardless of what they claim. Unemployment and welfare in the USA is an inherited RIGHT apparently as several generations can be chronic welfare recipients with no questions from our handout government... and who pays? This is just another quick fix that will be obsolete the moment the USA airlines decides to implement them. As was pointed out, whenever a gimmick comes up such as this, there are many many people figuring out ways around them. And this surely won't increase air travel will it? So get ready for the nosedive the airlines that implement this bracelet are going to be taking...
- Wordsmytheist, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7Any child can rationalize stealing freedom in the name of protecting people, but where is the considerate sense of proportion on these matters?
I'm very much in favor of securing airplanes but there are smart ways and not-so-smart ways to do it. Arming oneself makes sense; strong-arming innocents does not. Does quality of life even get considered? Honestly, I don't know much about tasers but I've read that heart patients can die from it.
The risk of accidents by the airline would seem to outweigh imaginable benefits this might offer. It makes people feel as if they live in the USSR or Nazi Germany. When was the last time we had an incident that would trigger this sort of response? Terrorism is a real threat, abroad, but if it becomes a serious threat here it is because the government broke the laws in the first place, using our tax dollars to do it too. They can fix it without our having to pay the bill with lost freedoms. - ccso8462, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7A much better idea is to flood the passenger cabin with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). Then not only would you arrive safely, but the ride would be a blast! And of course, if there was any trouble, they can just substitute a little nerve agent. VX, anyone? Sure, a few folks might be inconvenienced by their own deaths, but this would also reduce their carbon footprints by a very large amount. Everybody wins, right? Our government is nuts!
- michael4lsu, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6WOW! This is straight out of movies like Total Recall with the explosive collars for prisoners to decapitate them if they try to escape or step out of line. It's like an electronic shock collar for dogs. It's like being under house arrest while flying on a plane except you're wearing a bracelent on your wrist instead of your ankle. This equipment would have zero effect in making us safer from terrorists. It is not designed for that. It is designed for controlling We The People. It's just one of their incrimental steps to further indoctrinate us into accepting heavier chains and thicker prison walls while convincing us that it is necessary for us to be treated as prisoners for our own safety.
OF COURSE DHS would be interested in this. Their goal is to turn America into more of a police state than it already is and to raise the prison walls up around us a little higher. The elite are turning this into a prison planet, we will have nowhere to go for freedom once they've raised the walls and tightened the shackles on us enough. There will be nowhere for the frogs to jump out the pot, at least for the frogs who realized the water was boiling in the first place. - USNavyBlue, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4michael4lsu – You hit the nail on the head.
Most American sheeple don’t realize that Michael Chartoff, Head of Homeland Security, is a dual citizen. He has absolutely no loyalty to this country. In addition, he is former KGB! Now that ought to tell you something rate there.
Homeland Security’s mission statement is IDENTICAL of DoD – Department of Defense to defend and protect the United States of America.
Homeland Security’s only mission is to spy on, control the movements and actions of American citizens. That is there sole purpose and who else better to put in charge than a Former Communist trained KGB Agent of the USSR with a dual citizenship, not of Russia but another little country that is a thorn in everyone’s side lately!
Moreover, the only time in history that the term “Homeland” is referred to was under Communist regimes that of the USSR and Nazi Germany! But yet naïve little Americans don’t get the connection! - freedomlvr, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3You know...I like to feel safe whenever I fly...just like any other sane human being. However, this is a really bad idea. First of all, anyone who is hell-bent on taking down a plane will figure out a way to disable his/her bracelet. That's a given. Secondly, I don't exactly want to put something on my wrist that can immobilize me at the whim of another person. I trust my pilot to get me to my destination safely and on time, but I don't know if I want to trust him/her...or another member of the flight crew...with the ability to set off my bracelet. Humans make mistakes. I also don't want to trust the device itself. After all, it could have a glitch in it and just go off on its own. Furthermore, haven't people died from being tasered? What if you don't know that you have a heart condition, and the thing goes off causing a heart attack or death? What kind of shape do you really think our already failing airlines would be in then? This whole idea is just stupid. There are too many variables that can go wrong which would only affect the innocent people on the plane. Once again, our government would rather punish the majority of us as though we're criminals, rather than targeting only those who have a much higher risk of being terrorists...all in the name of diversity and non-racial/religious bias, I guess.
- DrReaper, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Shock bracelets are the answer to airline passengers? Why don't we just profile the enemy? Nevermind profiling would work and we can't use anything that might work. We need to take away every limit the constitution has on the government. If the airlines think this is going to help they need to get their collective heads examined.
- RichardMinch, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1While my personal internet forum moniker may be "Songbird of Jesus", in reality, my feet have never once left the ground.
This is one reason why.
Would hate to be caught reaching into my coat pocket for a piece of gum, only to have a suspicous stewardess electrocute me and ask questons later.
Sheesh! - Christianptriot, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3Just wait until they actually do this, then some old man or woman with a heart condition or a pacemaker gets accidentally zapped and dies on the plane...The ACLU lawyers would be lined up around the planet on that one.
- SOLGAARD, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2(lol) - (hehe)
"DON'T TAZE - ME BRO' !! DON"T TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!"
(lol)
Really my family, ' have been advocating carting your-own butts around since 911. Not for fear mind-you. Absolutely cannot stand anyone ELSE having that-much control over my existance.
Some guy no-one knows runs, (like that's never been seen in an airport before)- and now we have to shut-down the whole shi-bang?!? Whatever-
Can be just as bad on major arteries, (ice storms are rough)- can come prepared, but still get stopped dead, because some-guy went to fast. Even-still, at least on the high-way there is always an "exit"- that option loses it intrigue, at 30,000 feet. - Ruler4you, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2There is another way to do the same thing but citizens retain control over their liberty.
As you board the plane at the end of the jet way there should be a BIG box of hand guns. Every one (that wants to) can take one hand gun onto the plane. Any one starts any monkey business and the whole plane is ready to handle the mess from start to finish, if necessary. It's their asses in the air, they should have some control when split seconds count and authority is trying to figure out which seat belongs to which passenger so they can apply a shock to that person. - chiefquanah, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3I got an IDEA!!! If Homeland Security wants to protect US Citizens why not then protect (seal off) our borders instead of turning our airplanes into prison transport tubes... screen foreigners boarding aircraft headed to the US at their home airport before they even get on the plane. We face more of a threat from open borders and lack of screening at the gate then we do once the plane is in flight.
These guys are so friggin bone headed. - Tallen05, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Why don't we put everyone on a plane in a straight jacket and bolt them to their seats for the duration of the flight as well huh?
- Haoie, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2It's hard to see how air travel would get more uncomfortable.
Then this comes along.- DrJen, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1LOL! My thoughts exactly.
- fasteddiebull, on 07/10/2008, -0/+0I like Archie Bunkers idea better, his suggestion to Meathead to prevent highjacking was to hand out guns to all the passengers as they boarded the plane.
:) - tehbored, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1WND. Probably *****. Buried.
- FURBjr, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Leave it to the Canadians to bring new torture devices into being. Wasn't K.D. Lang enough?!
