maps.google.com — This Google map of today's wildfires was created by our local public broadcasting station, KPBS. This is the most useful map I've found available to locals right now.The official emergency website (looks like a frontpage creation) was down all night and is a mess to navigate. Local MSM information is scattered and dated. Public resources trump MSM.

A combination wiki, blog, forum, map service that is ready to go on the fly for emerging events. Wish I had the time to string one up today.
- fiveness, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Thousands evacuated county-wide. Many freeways and schools closed. Wild Animal Park under threat. Worse than 2003 Cedar fire. Santa Ana's expected to get worse today. Please spread this map around if you're in the San Diego area. Excuse me if I'm a bit hysterical right now. Things are crazy down here.
