- MattnJax, on 01/28/2008, -5/+40Damn, I didn't know there were so many Mormons on digg. But by the amount of positive comments, I'd say there are quite a few.
- stukdog, on 01/28/2008, -13/+37If this makes front page, it will surely invite comments of disrespect. But I hope those tongues are held because this was a good man with a great heart.
Feel free to read up, as he was loved and respected by those within and without the church.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_B._Hinckley - reboare, on 01/28/2008, -17/+34Rest in peace. You set a great example on how to live a good clean life for millions.
- ZogDog, on 01/28/2008, -2/+17I'm sure there's just as many catholics, atheists, agnostics, jews, protestants and others, it's just now you're going to see the mormons come out to pay their respects (as well as many others)
- livejamie, on 01/28/2008, -5/+20Regardless of how you feel about the church (I left it years ago) he was a great great man. Anybody who go to experience him speak realized it. The world has lost a great person, may he rest in peace.
- trackimble, on 01/28/2008, -8/+22"Let us all try to stand a little taller, rise a little higher, be a little better."
Gordon B. Hinckley, “The Quest for Excellence,” Ensign, Sept. 1999.
What a universal message. - vervalsing, on 01/28/2008, -3/+15Death carries with it sadness and regret, no matter what the religion. I may fundamentally disagree with the LDS church and many of the things it stands for, but my sympathies are with his family and members of the church he has left behind.
- whataboutdave, on 01/28/2008, -2/+14Welcome to Digg. Nothing is sacred here - literally.
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -14/+26Though it's hard to take in, this has been expected by most of us for a while. It's good that he is with his wife again.
He gave the world so much. - tweetjj, on 01/28/2008, -21/+33Though I new this day would come and though it gives me great solace to know President Hinkley is with his beloved wife, I cannot help but shed a tear as I gathered my family around me to tell them that the Prophet has died. He was a man of inspiration, humility, and humor. I will miss him dearly. We that thee O God for our prophet.
- mailman-zero, on 01/28/2008, -1/+12Death is not a zero sum event. It is a practical surety for all at one time. Just give it some time.
- estvir, on 01/28/2008, -1/+11Exactly, even if you do not agree with the LDS church it's hard not to respect a man who if you ignore religious beliefs taught morals, standing up for ones beliefs, to love all, do service for others without expectation of a reward and a million other positive things.
If more people were like this, the world would be a much better place. So, if you cannot respect the religion he was apart, at least respect him as a good man. - scottybot, on 01/28/2008, -6/+16Mormon or not you have to respect the man. What an example he was.
- airiox, on 01/28/2008, -2/+12Queue the regular digg hate mongering and philosophy... now.
- trackimble, on 01/28/2008, -5/+15Truth is, President Hinckley touched people of all faiths.
- Dantetheinferno, on 01/28/2008, -2/+12I'm surprised at the crazy amount of attacks on Mormonism. You may not like it, but still....
- LaerrusFish, on 01/28/2008, -3/+12seriously, if you are going to critique someone at least be factual.
Misinformation like this only makes the opposition look like idiots. - mailman-zero, on 01/28/2008, -0/+9When posting a wikipedia link you should always check it over once then link to the current version in case te info changes after you link to it. This is doubly true for controversial and suddenly popular topics as the page is likely to be vandalized.
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -5/+14Yes it was his fault that YOU had a bad time.
In a page full of people paying tribute to someone they love, you are the person shouting ignorance...think about where you are for a while. - airiox, on 01/28/2008, -1/+10I will assume you couldn't possibly be that misguided and assume that you have confused Gordon B Hinckley and the LDS faith with Warren Jeffs and the polygamists in Colorado City.
- reboare, on 01/28/2008, -3/+11source please
- DorranKame, on 01/28/2008, -6/+14Amen :)
- mahooga, on 01/28/2008, -2/+10You are truly a disgusting person. This was a remarkable man and it is totally tasteless and classless to degrade him after all that he has done to make this world a better place.
- jon30041, on 01/28/2008, -4/+12I was raised a Mormon, and over time fell away from the church. I've had my disagreements with what they consider to be "attacks on the family" and some other positions of a conservative nature. However, I'll always have the clean living and strong values with me, and for that I'm thankful. I disagreed with his views sometimes, but... mostly we were on the same page.
I know next week at church will be a very emotional sacrament, benediction, etc. He will be missed, greatly. - ZogDog, on 01/28/2008, -6/+14Tactless and inconsiderate, also quite ignorant as well.
- acanaday, on 01/28/2008, -8/+15He was by far my favorite church leader. When I was young - I always had a hard time paying attention to the "old man" talks. But he was different - funny, smart, witty, yet at the same time able to prompt the reverence of a 14 year old. I firmly believe that he was one of the most sincere and kind people in the world. It's a shame to have him out of it.
- ZogDog, on 01/28/2008, -15/+22For those who care, he was the prophet when I discovered the purpose of life and finally found purpose with my life. I will miss him and the wonderful council he provided for myself and to others. We truly have lost a great world leader for peace and this will be a somber week for all.
- somelifeguard, on 01/28/2008, -2/+9Do you even understand the words you use? You remind me of my 7 year old brother, who only knows 2 insults. Idiot, and Faggit. He will eat some food he doesn't like and he says: this taste idiotic. and then I say: Jordon you sound like a moron. Do you even know what idiotic means? it was a term meaning someone who was unable to vote, signifying their stupidity. but food is completley unrelated with stupidity, and voting. moron.
If you have ever heard him speak, you will know that he was far from being biased towards women, and treated them with a great deal of respect.
Second, He was a not a Pedophile. Is that your set insult for a religious leader after the catholic priest scandal? that all religious leaders must be pedophile? you biggot.
3rd. what is wrong with you. read your sentence, you contradict yourself. You say he lead a good clean life, and that he was a great life. Yet do you consider a pedophile a CLEAN and GREAT person? wtf? since when are pedophiles associated with living a clean life? you sound like a moron.
4th. FYI, using the term Good Riddance does not make you sound cool, nor does it earn kudos.
cheerio. (lol) - airiox, on 01/28/2008, -1/+8Calm down, it has been buried 3 times with 100 diggs and is still in the eligible section of upcoming stories. It just takes longer for a story to reach the front page with the new algorithm.
http://www.ajaxonomy.com/buryrecorder/ - reboare, on 01/28/2008, -1/+8This was one" JAnuary 10, 2008" Behold it shall come to pass that Nudar shall open his mouth and be found guilty of dimwitedness."
DOOOOD! No way it's real! - jackieshmackie, on 01/28/2008, -4/+10Whenever I hear his beautiful testimony of the Savior, there is no doubt in my mind that he was called of God. He will always be my prophet.
- rathofbuns, on 01/28/2008, -15/+21He was a wonderful man, and it's my testimony that he was a prophet of God. Regardless if you share the same belief, he did a tremendous amount of good in this world. He will be missed.
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -4/+10To be honest, it will be dup for a while. LDS members care a lot about him. There is something different about it.. so it won't do much good.
I'm not really disagreeing. One article per story would be preferable...but it's inevitable. - somelifeguard, on 01/28/2008, -1/+7actually, he had one wife, and stayed married to her, unlike many other Americans. and she actually died a few years ago. now what is up with you digg people and vocabulary. succeeded means that she would be the living successor
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -1/+7You have my digg.
- ibanez2k, on 01/28/2008, -5/+11We'll definately miss him. Great man.
- mailman-zero, on 01/28/2008, -1/+7First of all, it's "preyed" not "prayed." Secondly, your faux pas was actually more accurate than your intended foolish statement. He most certainly prayed for the weak-minded, but profit had nothing to do with it. He was a great prophet, though.
- deathtom64, on 01/28/2008, -4/+10digg is and always will be biased.....digg has gone way down hill in the past year. you can ask any veteran digg user. it's sad really because you read these articles about discrimination and the users sympathize with the victims...that is until something bad happens to some one like the LDS president for instance. its either a joke or ignored completely. A Ron Paul speech is more important to the users then a positive American icon dying but hey, thats digg.com for ya.

http://www.myfoxutah.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?c ... - MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7Here is something worth reading if you have never...to those who doesn't understand how we feel.. This describes it well.. It's the hymn that many will attribute to him.
1)
We thank thee, O God, for a prophet To guide us in these latter days.
We thank thee for sending the gospel To lighten our minds with its rays.
We thank thee for every blessing Bestowed by thy bounteous hand.
We feel it a pleasure to serve thee, And love to obey thy command.
2)
When dark clouds of trouble hang o’er us And threaten our peace to destroy,
There is hope smiling brightly before us, And we know that deliv’rance is nigh.
We doubt not the Lord nor his goodness. We’ve proved him in days that are past.
The wicked who fight against Zion Will surely be smitten at last.
3)
We’ll sing of his goodness and mercy. We’ll praise him by day and by night,
Rejoice in his glorious gospel, And bask in its life-giving light.
Thus on to eternal perfection The honest and faithful will go,
While they who reject this glad message Shall never such happiness know. - spritom, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7I hope I'm doing a fraction of his activity well into my 90's.
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7I fully agree. Digg is gettong worse every day. They claim to be open yet criticize anyone who would disagree. There is more Bias here than almost anywhere I look today.
- whataboutdave, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7It's a duplicate story. Also, to answer your question: Yes.
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7Do you SERIOUSLY have nothing better to do? I can think of Many Black LDS members you ought to meet. I'm sure their mind frame is MUCH different than yours. Your comment to me earlier was illogical and unresearched.
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7He only said he had strong values and clean living.
What is it about not drinking, smoking, avoiding bad language, and keeping an otherwise clean, addictive free life, maintaining self control and promoting Family as important and the center of our lives.. that isn't better to you?
Sounds like a better life than most people generally aspire to, AND nothing he said was "I'm better than all of you"
I thought it was a very fair statement. - Diggtatorship, on 01/28/2008, -1/+6Doesn't work that way. It would help your case if you actually understood what you were talking about.
- estvir, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7Digg is full of hypocrites and 14 year olds but even so, on other sites which claim to be much more intelligent, unbiased, fair and so on (Like Reddit), they're even more vicious.
- MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -2/+7Your mom would be horribly mistaken then. THE HEAD of our church does NOT support Romney and they have stated that MULTIPLE times.
The church always councils people to make informed choices. Do a LITTLE research first. Nothing bugs me more than ignorance.... so read this and learn of your fault...
http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/public-iss ... - airiox, on 01/28/2008, -11/+16Despite his age, it came as a shock. He had such a fervency for life and tremendous health that I would have never guessed he would have passed this year.
At least he is with his dear wife, his extraordinary father and family. - MusicalGenius, on 01/28/2008, -4/+8What basis do you have that it is a delusion? I'd certainly rather believe in a happy outcome than your idea of rotting in a box. You can go to your box. I certainly intend on something else.
