- allowners, on 12/07/2008, -6/+859Pro-active citizen action, nice concept.
- humanerror, on 12/07/2008, -4/+733He started growing 2 Christmas trees in his home under grow lights and when the cops broke in to illegally arrest him, he caught it all on tape. Brilliant.
This is one reality TV show that I would not mind watching. - greenfyre, on 12/07/2008, -15/+694He's probably a dead man, but I salute him.
- inactive, on 12/08/2008, -4/+621This is awesome. I hope they keep it up, all over the country.
- BuckQJohnson, on 12/07/2008, -9/+453I love this, the cops are finally running scared. The reason why this guy is so successful as he said is that he was a narcotics officer for many years and he knows all the little games the cops play to get over someone because he used them. From the look of things they say it's taking off and people are eating it up. Many people have had run ins with police that humiliated threatened or intimidated individuals to do what they say. I can't wait for this to take off, since the state and federal govt. tend to drag their feet when it's one of their own, then this type of activity is a form of check and balances that should have been in place and used for years. As the one poster put it their is copwatch which is good, but this is alot better. And that is because it shows in real time and with full protection lawyers cameras etc., to set the cops up to see if they are following the law which they weren't.
- sinetist, on 12/07/2008, -9/+354Hey cops,
Don't worry. You have nothing to be scared of if you're not breaking the law.
...It's not so cool when you have to live by the same standards, is it?
PS We're watching you.
- the People - voicce, on 12/07/2008, -5/+296This guy is a hero. A former cop honest enough to see how wrong enforcement in this country has become. It no longer serves the citizens but rather bullies and harms them. His activism is intelligent and moral: it may help wake up both police and civilians.
- inactive, on 12/07/2008, -12/+250Most cop tv shows never, ever show cops doing anything wrong, when cops do many things wrong on a daily basis!
btw, the war on drugs is a disastrous, ongoing fraud!!! - NoZb2k, on 12/07/2008, -4/+226The Chris Hansen of crooked cops.
- dt101010, on 12/07/2008, -0/+184There is a actually a whole group of former police, DEA officers, and judges working to stop the "war on drugs". This guy was a speaker for them at one time. Just look up LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) their website is http://www.leap.cc if you wanted to support them.
- elizabethb221, on 12/07/2008, -2/+158That's shady and all, but don't you wish you could do something when you see a cop changing lanes without blinking?
If I can get pulled over for that, he should be pulled over too. - jedicor, on 12/07/2008, -1/+104Don't forget! We're doing this for your own good, and for the safety of others like you.
- inactive, on 12/07/2008, -3/+105It really seems more akin to advocacy documentary, which is perfectly legitimate. Reality TV is just the dumb modern label for a non-traditional documentary, apparently.
- Drahkar, on 12/07/2008, -0/+90'Odessa Police are continuing the investigation to see if any laws were broken'.
Of course they are. They were exposed for cheating the system and abusing their power. Of course they are trying to find some way to make these guys look like the bad guys.
The moment any evidence is planted, you are as bad as the criminals you seek to catch. Period. - elfs1der, on 12/07/2008, -1/+86this is what reality tv should be like
- wkenri, on 12/07/2008, -3/+78Everyone in NYC is being encouraged to carry a video recorder of some type; it's the only way to protect oneself from the growing corruption problem in the city's police force.
- inactive, on 12/07/2008, -6/+81Barry is awesome. He has literally kept me from being arrested before just by watching his videos. If you've never seen Never Get Busted, I suggest you check it out. Here's some google video links to the various segments: http://video.google.com/videosearch?rlz=1C1GGLS_en ...
- inactive, on 12/07/2008, -4/+74Just in case you guys wanted to see the movie he made before hand, "Never Get Busted Again" Where he shows you the best places to hide your stash and how DEA thinks and works, since he was one himself but then realized how corrupt it all was;
http://www.nothostedhere.com/xplayer/play/1268/1/p ... - Oakes, on 12/07/2008, -2/+72This is what Chris Hansen should have been doing.
- CalmLlama, on 12/07/2008, -0/+69Planting evidence is worse than criminal
- paigeinphilly, on 12/07/2008, -12/+81(sing with COPS theme)
"bad cops, bad cops...whatcha gonna do?..whatcha gonna do when they come for you..."
i might tune into this one. - BigMommaLurka, on 12/07/2008, -5/+74Love it!
(Don't look for it in heavy re-runs on FOX however.) - eviljolly, on 12/07/2008, -0/+64I just busted a cop the other day for being in possession of stolen goods.
He took part in breaking in and stealing a computer from a client of mine during the last hurricane, and a few days ago it checked in with our system using our remote management software.. I captured shots via VNC of his DSL username and password in his router. Hopefully he gets what's coming to him.
Corruption occurs on both sides of the fence. Our system needs more checks and balances for law enforcement.
Once this is all said and done, it might make a nice story for Digg. - kashi, on 12/07/2008, -4/+67BTW wait until you hear news that he was caught smuggling drugs or that the police found drugs in his house.... I bet FOX will be the first one to air it.
- TurnipFarm, on 12/07/2008, -7/+68OMG I KANT WAIT FOR THOSE KROOKED KOPS TO GET KANNED
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 12/07/2008, -1/+60All cops I've met consider themselves above the law in one way or another. At least one I knew personally speeds in excess of 10-15 over the speed limit constantly even when off duty and in his personal vehicle. He knows he can just show his badge and drive away. It's total ***** not to mention unsafe.
- inactive, on 12/07/2008, -0/+53Some cop will kill him while he is supposedly carrying drugs, and a firearm, with an iPhone full of child porn.
- ICLW, on 12/07/2008, -0/+51Ah, a fellow KDE developer!
- NinaOdell, on 12/07/2008, -2/+52Actually...
http://www.copwatch.org/ - fiatjustitia, on 12/07/2008, -0/+50In my home town, we have cops that will drive as if they have their lights and siren blaring...
with no lights and/or siren.
People get hit all the time, and the city pays out for the car accidents, and it's been a persistent problem for years. - frygar, on 12/07/2008, -0/+50Damn straight. They should be thankful that we're keeping them in line.
- bonk2k, on 12/07/2008, -0/+49I swear to god, she told me she was growing marijuana!
- atticus8, on 12/07/2008, -0/+49"Kops lie on the affidavit claiming a confidential informant saw the plants and/or the police could smell marijuana coming from the suspected house"
When I read this part I almost yelped out in agreement. I have seen cops pull the "I smell marijuana in this vehicle, I'm searching it" so many times that I've almost begun to respect the twisted brilliance of such a ***** excuse: unlike the sight of something, a "smell" of something will dissipate of its own accord, leaving nothing that one (like a judge or a defendant) could use to contradict the cop. I heard it on and off for years when my driver friends would get stopped, most laughably when it was one of my straight-edge friends that had never even smoked weed before, but then I sunk into downright despair about it when I clerked for a judge this summer (prep for being a lawyer). Every cop would just walk into court, sit on the stand, and say "Your Honor, there was a powerful smell of marijuana in the car, so I had probable cause to search the vehicle. I didn't find any marijuana, so they must have smoked it earlier. Anyway, my search did find [object that does not smell like anything and is illegal]." If they are a K9 unit, they also can (and do) say that the dog signaled that there was drugs in the car, so that, even when no drugs are found, the search is "legit".
Btw, I was even more shocked that a cop could successfully use RUBBER BANDS as the evidence that would give him probable cause to search a car. What they say goes like this, "Your Honor, I knew from my training that dealers use rubber bands to keep transaction money in rolls of set amounts. They are also used to seal large bags of drugs. So this tipped me off that there were drugs in the car." AND IT WORKS. - Godlike, on 12/07/2008, -2/+49This is one of the best things anyone has done in years. What better way to bring attention to the broken system than by exploiting it's corruption in broad daylight?
- aequabilitas, on 12/07/2008, -1/+46Things are never black and white.
Saying "Cops are good people" is absolutely retarded. Do you know how many cops there are? Do you know all of them? Maybe you have a relative who's a cop. Maybe you have a lot of friends who are cops. Perhaps "They" are good people. Does this make you qualified to classify ALL cops as good people? No.
The fact is, in any sufficiently large group, you're going to have that natural variation. There will be jerks, and there will be saints. Police officers are very powerful. They make decisions every day that can make or break people, potentially even ruining lives. It is inevitable that wielding such power every single day is going to have a distinct effect on the way someone perceives and behaves. The fact that the Police are not easily beholden to any of the laws they are expected to uphold also has a very huge effect on the way they treat us.
I say, Police the Police. If they are really GOOD cops, and GOOD people, they have NOTHING to fear!
But, lets see what happens to this brave guy who is stepping up as a hero to bring justice to those who never have to worry about it. - IIAmusedII, on 12/07/2008, -5/+50That's why you never get a 'blue code of silence.' Cops are so good that they always speak out and tell the truth when their fellow cops abuse people.
*****. The average cop would shut up, play dumb, or lie to protect the fellow cop that beat you bloody. Hope you get a chance to experience that someday, Kinsey. - SuperTonic, on 12/07/2008, -2/+45Why don't you have a seat right over there?
- SverigesKung, on 12/07/2008, -2/+45This. This is what will happen. Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow, but within three years this guy will either be found guilty of an actual charge, killed by police or "criminals", or framed and jailed. Or perhaps an awesome combination of all of the above. Don't believe me? Screenshot this comment, save it and look it up in three years and see.
This man is calling down the thunder of an overpaid, underworked, bored series of agencies and men devoted to fighting an unwinnable war. They will see this one single man as an easy target. And he is an easy target for multi billion dollar budgets devoted to stopping the growth of plants. - UncleCrapper, on 12/07/2008, -2/+42While that may be true how can you tell the "good" cops from the "bad" ones? You have to protect yourself and act in your own self interest. That means never submitting to a search, never talking to police, never volunteering information, and avoid interacting with police at all costs (even socially).
Besides, if these good cops aren't doing anything wrong they have nothing to worry about, right? - BobSutan, on 12/07/2008, -0/+39Happened once in Niles, Ohio around 95 or 96 by the Eastwood mall. Cop t-boned a woman leaving the plaza, killing her instantly. IIRC, the city ended up settling for a few mil, but the cop got off with a smack on the wrist.
- Jeffrr, on 12/07/2008, -0/+38Here's some of the footage from the house:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHmP_KtmcB4 - Scrappy1850, on 12/07/2008, -4/+41i blame the system, most cops i know are ok guys. but the culture does breed *****.
- Malik112099, on 12/07/2008, -11/+47Joey Greco from Cheaters got stabbed.
Barry Cooper is definitely getting shot. - Kafro, on 12/07/2008, -8/+41can't wait for more...shouldn't be too hard to catch cops most abuse their power anyway
- Nerys, on 12/07/2008, -3/+35No Knock warrants are absolutely positively NEVER justified and are ABSOLUTELY a violation of the constitution.
When some breaks into my house I am morally legally and DUTY bound to PROTECT my family by any means needed.
When Police break into a house and come under FIRE from the resident protecting his family there responce is limited and immediate. SHOOT the resident.
If you do not see an extreme conflict with these 2 things there is something wrong with the logic centers of your mind.
The police have NO RIGHT to no knock warrants. They are illegal and immoral and unconstitutional I do not care WHAT the DOJ says. The Constitution TRUMPS the DOJ.
If you are POLICE you always have the advantage. YOU KNOW there is potential danger inside. YOU KNOW you have vests guns backup radio's. YOU KNOW you can call on more bodies if you need them. YOU KNOW you having training and YOU VOLUNTARILY signed up for this duty. YOU KNOW and have ACCEPTED the risks.
The citizen has NONE OF THIS. There is NO balance here.
If having no knocks tossed means risking you losing EVIDENCE
Well TOO GOD DAMNED BAD. MY LIFE is worth more than your EVIDENCE or ARREST RECORD.
If you break into my house I WILL shoot first and ask question later.
Sadly no knock warrants means I MUST now shoot to KILL just to try and prevent you from killing ME accidentally.
In the past I would shoot to wound or warn since break ins are always by ONE perpetrator and the perp is almost NEVER going to be "shooting back". NOW to do so will result in me getting SHOT. SO I have to shoot before I am shot. And to make it worse unlike crooks COPS are trained in only ONE method of shooting. To Kill.
GOOD job! Now I have to live with the possibility of killing an innocent COP because you guys decided you needed no knock warrants when a simple KNOCK on the door would avoid 100% of these problems. - mikeophile, on 12/07/2008, -0/+32The guy's website, http://nevergetbusted.com has been suspended.
Was it the Digg effect, or the pig effect? - mykool, on 12/07/2008, -9/+40 I live in Odessa, I think this is awesome! Barry Cooper is God!
- sleze, on 12/07/2008, -0/+30Tell that to the cop that was caught on camera threatening to make up any charges he wanted.
